Strategic Value of Certifications in Manufacturing Companies: Analysis of the Leading Companies in the Marche Region
No full textCertifications play a crucial role in enhancing a company’s reputation across multiple dimensions as they verify compliance with established norms and standards in areas such as safety, quality, and sustainability.
Nowadays, sustainability certifications are particularly impactful, guiding consumer choices toward environmentally friendly products and encouraging companies to improve continuously. Social certifications, emphasizing workers' rights, gender equality, and fair wages, further reinforce ethical and social responsibility. However, obtaining certifications involves significant investment, rigorous compliance, and addressing legal and bureaucratic requirements.
In Italy, Accredia oversees the validity of system certification processes, ensuring alignment with international standards and fostering transparency and reliability in certified companies.
This article aims to analyse the main companies in the Marche Region, as listed in the annual Fondazione Aristide Merloni’s ranking through the possession of certifications, with particular focus on four key sectors: Fashion, Agri-food, Furniture, Automation and Machineries.
The research was conducted analysing companies websites and the Accredia database, looking for certifications and analysing the results to evidence the most achieved and the gaps between companies and sectors.
It emerges that larger companies have a greater capacity to obtain system certifications and that the numbers are growing for sustainability certifications, while it is noted that smaller companies have a lower rate of adoption, being more influenced by financial and organisational obstacles

Applying multilevel selection to understand cancer evolution and progression
No full textNatural selection occurs at multiple levels of organization in cancer. At an organismal level, natural selection has led to the evolution of diverse tumor suppression mechanisms, while at a cellular level, it favors traits that promote cellular proliferation, survival and cancer. Natural selection also occurs at a subcellular level, among collections of cells and even among collections of organisms; selection at these levels could influence the evolution of cancer and cancer suppression mechanisms, affecting cancer risk and treatment strategies. There may also be cancer-like processes happening at different levels of organization, in which uncontrolled proliferation at lower levels may disrupt a higher level of organization. This Essay examines how selection operates across levels, highlighting how we might leverage this understanding to improve cancer research, prevention and treatment

No full text: Several variables influence the performance of hot asphalt mixtures including reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). Among these, the virgin bitumen's origin, the mix production temperature and the time the mix is kept at a high temperature between mixing and compaction play a fundamental role but are often neglected. This study aimed to quantify the negative effects associated with the improper choice of these variables. Therefore, their influence on the mechanical (indirect tensile stiffness modulus and strength, Cracking Tolerance Index) and chemical (Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy) characteristics of asphalt mixtures containing 50% RA were investigated. In particular, two rejuvenators, two types of virgin bitumen (visbreaker and straight-run), two production temperatures (140 °C and 170 °C) and three conditioning times in the oven (30 min, 90 min and 180 min) were analyzed. The results showed interesting findings that allow us to recommend selecting the virgin bitumen type carefully and to avoid excessively stressing the binder during the production of the mix
Hearing the voices of Ukrainian refugee women in Italy to enhance empowerment interventions
No full textThe 2022 Russian invasion displaced millions of Ukrainians, many of whom sought refuge in Italy. War refugees face heightened mental-health risks but can also activate resilience and empowerment. This study employed the Transtheoretical Model of Empowerment and Resilience (Brodsky & Cattaneo, 2013) to explore resilience and empowerment processes implemented by Ukrainian refugee women in Italy to cope with war-related challenges and living in a new country. Twenty Ukrainian refugee women completed questionnaires and participated in semi-structured interviews. Results indicated perceived psychological distress following traumatic war experiences. Utilizing individual and shared resources, respondents enacted resilience processes stemming from the context of risk in their home country and the receiving country but not empowerment actions. However, some mentioned empowerment goals, such as changes in the formal support system for refugees and creating a network of Ukrainian refugees for mutual support. Results highlighted how some participants held individual characteristics of relative privilege, which could be crucial for transitioning from resilience to empowerment. The study suggests that facilitating this transition may require tailored interventions for the specific needs of Ukrainian refugee women and community-based interventions for promoting access to shared opportunities with the local community and other migrants
Excess cement and peri‐implant disease: A cross‐sectional clinical endoscopic study
No full textBackground: Crown cementation is a common technique for implant-supported prosthodontics. However, for possible slipping of the cement below the mucosal margin, its thorough removal poses some issues. The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of submucosal cement residues in patients with peri-implant disease by endoscopic visualization and to investigate the potential correlation between the pathological scenario and the spatial position of cement residues. Methods: The study sample comprised 46 consecutive patients exhibiting clinical and radiographic signs of peri-implant disease around cement-retained crowns. When at first visit bleeding on probing was the only pathological sign, the area was debrided and then treated with antiseptic agents for 30 days. Only those patients for whom bleeding was still found at re-evaluation were included in the study. All implants were therefore endoscopically evaluated to identify possible submucosal cement residues. For all implants showing residual cement, the spatial position of the residual cement was recorded with respect to predefined points. Results: Cement residues were detected in 80.4% of the patients and were predominantly located in the vestibular and lingual areas (88%). Analysis of the distances between the apical portion of the residues and anatomical landmarks revealed significant differences between mucositis and peri-implantitis patients (p = 0.001). In cases of peri-implantitis, the cement residue was more apically located than in mucositis. Conclusion: The presence of cement residue was associated with peri-implant disorders in the majority of patients. A potential correlation between the position of residues and the peri-implant disease scenario is here suggested. Plain language summary: A common method for fixing the crown on the dental implant is the use of specific cements. However, these products can slip below the gum line resulting in difficulties in their removal, which could cause peri-implant disease. This study aimed to evaluate the presence and location of residual cement hidden under the gums in patients with peri-implant disease, characterized by symptoms such as bleeding gums and, in some cases, bone loss around the dental implant. Using a small fiber-optic camera (endoscope), 46 patients were examined for any cement residue under the gums. The study showed that more than 80% of patients had cement residues, especially in the areas facing the cheeks and tongue. It was also found that in patients with a more severe form of inflammation (peri-implantitis), the cement was placed deeper than in those with a milder form (mucositis). This confirms that residual cement is common in patients with peri-implant disease, but also suggests that its location could influence the severity of the pathological manifestation. This finding highlights the importance of carefully removing all cement to prevent such complications
