Passive suicide ideation in major depressive disorder: prognostic role and effect of antidepressant treatment
Background and aims: Passive suicidal ideation (PSI)—defined as the desire to die without any intent to act—is a relatively understudied phenomenon. This study investigated its prognostic role in major depressive disorder (MDD) and its evolution during antidepressant treatment. Methods: A total of 482 outpatients (30 % male; mean age = 43.14 ± 12.46 years) from the CO-MED trial were included. Clinical evaluations were conducted at baseline and again after 6 weeks, assessing depressive and hypomanic symptoms, comorbid anxiety, and childhood trauma. PSI was measured using four targeted items from the Concise Health Risk Tracking Self-Report scale (CHRT_PSI; score range 0–16). To distinguish PSI from related depressive symptoms such as hopelessness, a conservative threshold (CHRT_PSI ≥5) was used when analyzing clinical features and treatment response. A broader, more sensitive threshold (CHRT_PSI ≥4) was applied when evaluating PSI's predictive accuracy for suicidal behavior. Results: Compared to patients without PSI, those in the PSI group (n = 283; 59 %) exhibited more severe depressive symptoms, higher rates of comorbid anxiety disorders, and more childhood traumas, including both physical and emotional abuse. While PSI showed modest overall accuracy (37 %–46 %) in predicting suicidal behavior, its sensitivity (66 %–85 %) and negative predictive value (78 %–89 %) were good. PSI was also a significant predictor of response to antidepressants, an effect that remained robust even after adjusting for age, sex, depression severity, and history of childhood maltreatment. Among the 270 PSI patients who completed 6 weeks of treatment, 96 achieved remission from PSI. Insomnia and anhedonia were associated with poorer outcomes, while talkativeness was linked to a higher likelihood of remission. Conclusion: PSI is common in individuals with MDD and is associated with a worse prognosis. Insomnia may act as a barrier to PSI remission during treatment

Intelligenza Artificiale Generativa e didattica nei contesti scolastici-formativi: l’importanza strategica dell’AI Literacy
L’emergere dell’Intelligenza Artificiale Generativa (GenAI) anche in ambito didattico e formativo a partire dal rilascio di Cha-tGPT nel 2022 ha riattivato il dibattito generale sul ruolo delle tecnologie nell’istruzione. La tensione tra le potenzialità offerte (es. macro e micro-progettazione didattica) e i rischi ad essa collegati (es. aspetti etici; privacy) ha messo in moto una forte polarizzazione con una serie di reazioni e rifles-sioni a più livelli. Da un lato, istituzioni e organizzazioni scolastiche hanno iniziato a interrogarsi sulle modalità di comprendere e integrare questi strumenti a partire anche dall’utilizzo che gli studenti hanno iniziato a farne; dall’altro lato sono emersi con for-za punti di criticità legati al rischio di pla-gio e alla potenziale inibizione dei processi di apprendimento e di creatività. Questo ha portato la ricerca pedagogica, attiva su questi temi fin dagli anni ’70, ad esempio attraverso il lavoro di ricerca dell’AIED (Artificial Intelligence in Education), a rispondere ai quesiti che stanno emergendo riguardo alle implicazioni della GenAI sull’apprendimento e sullo sviluppo di strategie che ne massimizzino i benefici e mitigandone i rischi. In parallelo, tale scenario ha spinto i contesti scolastici e formativi a focalizzarsi in maniera più approfondita sulle competenze necessarie per formare i docenti e gli studenti a interagire in modo consapevole e critico con queste nuove tecnologie attraverso il co-strutto dell’AI Literacy
Towards a Multidisciplinary Approach of ECG Screening in Children and Adolescents: A Scoping Review (2005–2025)
Background: The reported data on ECG screening are focused on the last two decades.
The objectives of this review were bifold: (i) to identify, within a timespan of twenty years,
the most recent literature data on cardiac screening in children and adolescents and (ii) to
provide data on the procedures used. Methods: Queries were conducted using PubMed,
Scopus, and Google Scholar databases for the time window of 2005–2025. The mesh terms
used were “ECG”, “Universal Screening”, “Cardiac Pathologies”, “Heart Rate”, and
“Sports Pre-participation Evaluation”. Only research articles and review papers were included.
The standard English language filter was used. Successively, only research articles
were selected. Results: Data from 14 papers were considered, reflecting the lack of information
about subjects < 16 years of age. Conclusions: The information on objective ECG
screening measures is quite scarce, and it is an urgent need to introduce a multidisciplinary
approach to differentiate between ECG physiological changes due to growth and
ECG pathological changes due to early pathology

Il saggio si concentra sul tema degli orizzonti di senso, riconosciuto come terreno comune di una pedagogia capace di superare i "paradigmi del sospetto" circa la dimensione religiosa, ponendosi in dialogo con il pluralismo culturale e religioso dell’età contemporanea. La convinzione sottesa è che sia giunto il momento di avviare una riflessione pedagogica all’altezza delle trasformazioni in corso, trasformazioni che richiedono uno sguardo universale in un momento storico che segna la “morte delle ideologie”. Occorrono cioè progetti pedagogici capaci di proporre percorsi sostenibili di
reciproco riconoscimento tra persone, e contemporaneamente di prossimità a uomini
che vivono una tensione tra la condivisa condizione umana e le particolarità storiche

Montessori, non può prescindere da un confronto leale e non ideologico sul tema

Plasma microRNA Levels After Electroconvulsive Therapy in Treatment-Resistant Depressed Patients
Objectives: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is one of the most effective treatments for treatment-resistant depression (TRD), even though the molecular mechanisms underlying its efficacy remain largely unclear. This study aimed, for the first time, to analyze plasma levels of miRNAs, key regulators of gene expression, in TRD patients undergoing ECT to investigate potential changes during treatment and their associations with symptom improvement. Methods: The study involved 27 TRD patients who underwent ECT. Plasma samples were collected at baseline (T0) and 1 month after the last ECT session (T1), and miRNA analysis was conducted by qRT-PCR. We also performed gene prediction of miRNAs differentially expressed and KEGG pathway analysis. Results: miR-95-3p, miR-194-5p, miR-324-3p, miR-195-5p, miR-19b-3p, miR-30c-5p, let-7i-5p, and miR-497-5p were nominally downregulated at T1. Changes in miR-324-3p and miR-30c-5p levels between T0 and T1 significantly correlated with symptom improvement. Among the predicted miRNA target genes of these 2 miRNAs, we noticed the presence of VEGF and SIRT1, whose expression regulation has been associated with the ECT mechanism of action in previous studies. Conclusions: The study's most relevant results are related to the correlation between reductions in miR-30c-5p and miR-324-3p and the improvement of symptoms in response to ECT, positioning these miRNAs as promising candidates for further studies. These findings support and extend previous clinical and preclinical research indicating a role of miRNAs in ECT mechanism of action. However, no significant effects in ECT miRNA modulation were observed, highlighting the need for future replications in broader samples to confirm these results
