Homeownership and (un)employment: Search theory and empirical evidence from a system GMM
This paper suggests that the sign of the relation between homeownership and (un)employment changes according to both the type of homeowner and the market considered. In the housing market, employment positively affects homeownership with a mortgage (home search), whereas, in the labour market, outright homeownership negatively affects employment (job search). A panel analysis (on 27 European countries for the period 2014-2023) confirms the theoretical hypotheses. An augmented Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) version, known as “system GMM” is used to tackle endogeneity
The influence of online education and secondary school teachers' views on digital competencies
The increasing integration of digital technologies in education has sig-nificantly impacted secondary school teachers, challenging traditional pedagogical practices. This study explores Italian teachers’ perceptions of digital competen-cies and their experiences with professional development courses, starting from the perception of teachers enrolled in an online training course training course created by eCampus University to achieve the 30 University Training Credits (CFU or ECTS) necessary to take the exam required for qualification and become tenured teachers in secondary schools, pursuant to the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers (DPCM) of 4 August 2023. Through a survey of 2400 teachers, the research investigates attitudes toward digital tools, the perceived use-fulness of online learning, and the effectiveness of digital teaching methodologies. Findings indicate that teachers recognize digital education as a means to enhance engagement, creativity, and accessibility while also highlighting concerns about the digital divide and the need for continuous professional development. The study underscores the importance of collaborative learning communities, inter-disciplinary approaches, and practical digital integration in teaching. Ultimately, the research contributes to the ongoing discourse on digital education, advocating for structured training programs that equip educators with the necessary skills to navigate an evolving technological landscape
Processi alchemici.
The Oral–Brain Axis in Alzheimer’s Disease: From Microbial Dysbiosis to Neurodegeneration
Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most prevalent form of dementia, still lacks a clearly defined pathogenesis and effective disease-modifying therapies, prompting growing interest in peripheral drivers of neurodegeneration. Among these, chronic oral dysbiosis has emerged as a potential risk factor. Disruption of the oral ecosystem in periodontitis promotes systemic inflammation and the circulation of bacterial products capable of influencing brain homeostasis. By integrating molecular findings with epidemiological data linking periodontitis, tooth loss, and poor oral health to increased AD risk, this review examines how oral dysbiosis contributes to systemic inflammation as part of a broader network of interacting factors involved in AD pathophysiology. It describes how inflammatory, gut-microbial, genetic, and barrier-related processes intersect with oral dysbiosis and jointly contribute to the acceleration of AD progression. Building on this systemic perspective, the review highlights emerging oral biomarkers and oral–gut microbiota-targeted therapies as potential tools to address current gaps in early diagnosis and intervention. Overall, this work advances current understanding by integrating previously fragmented evidence and highlighting the key conceptual and methodological gaps that must be addressed to clarify causality and to guide the development of preventive and therapeutic approaches targeting oral health in the context of AD
Pedagogical reflection on how early exposure to incessant information flows, the rarefaction of physical interactions
and the progressive dematerialisation of relational experiences contributes to generating an unprecedented existential
condition is prompted by the fact that Generation Alpha, immersed since birth in hypermedia digital ecosystems, has
arrived. Digital competence must be considered not just a technical skill, but also a profound form of epistemic and
ethical-social responsibility. It is a matter of accessibility and social justice that can counteract cultural and gender bias.
In dialogue with the new 2025 National Guidelines, this reflection restores to schools the central task of preserving a
human dimension in the age of virtualisation, by valuing intergenerational responsibility and the ethical co-construction
of communal living
The paper aims to investigate the peculiar path of “budget numerical constitutionalism”. In the period between the two crises (sovereign debt and pandemic) both budget flexibility and the “bad” use of debt led to a redefinition of the balance between quantitative budget constraints and qualitative coordination of economic policies. Next Generation EU and National recovery and resilience plans (NRRP), in this sense, can be considered the developments of the path that started in Maastricht and which has unfolded over the last thirty years, with ever greater attention to the integration of the economic policies of Member States and with the temporary replacement of the numerical constraint with multiple indicators for the achievement of more defined goals, such as those relating to milestones and targets. This trend then partially weakened in the new European economic governance deriving from the new Stability and Growth Pact, in which on the one hand the NRRP method is internalized but, on the other, new numerical safeguard clauses have entered
Specific Physical Performances of Young Male Basketball Players in Palestine: An Assessment by Maturity Status
Objectives: There is a lack of studies that investigate the relationship between
anthropometric profiles, biological maturity, and specific physical performances in young
male basketball players. This study aimed to evaluate the development of anthropometric
characteristics and physical performance across different age and maturity groups among
male basketball players in Palestine, as well as to identify the anthropometric factors influencing
physical performance within this population. Methods: A total of one-hundred-fifty
male basketball players, aged 12 to 16, participated in this study. The players were categorized
by age groups (U-12 to U-16) and divided into five maturational groups based on
their maturity offset, ranging from −1.5 to 2.5 years relative to peak height velocity (PHV).
The measurements included anthropometric variables and physical performance, such as
sprinting performances, jumping ability, agility tests, and maximal aerobic capacity. Statistical
analyses, including a full model and multiple regression analysis, were conducted
to identify the anthropometric parameters that significantly influenced the performance
variables. Results: Anthropometric development, particularly lower-limb length, significantly
influenced vertical jump performance, while increases in body composition and fat
mass negatively impacted sprinting and strength test outcomes. Our study confirms that
maturity status plays a crucial role in determining physical performance among young
Palestinian basketball players. Early-maturing players generally demonstrated greater
strength and endurance, whereas late-maturing players excelled in agility and speed. The
full model and the multiple equations were used to determine the determinants of physical
performances according to anthropometric variables. Conclusions: The findings show
that performance benchmarks based on age and maturational groups may contribute to
a better understanding of training protocols and talent identification for young male basketball
players in Palestine, as well as support the development of strategies for physical
activity practice
