Climate Change and High-Quality Agri-Food Production: Perceptions of Risk and Adaptation Strategies in the Calabria Region (Southern Italy)
The unique features of high-quality agri-food production are rooted in the speci-
ficities of ecosystems, interpreted through an anthropocentric lens. In Italy, such products
are nationally certified with labels that enhance both their market value and their territorial
identity. However, climate change amplifies risks such as land degradation and reduced
arability, threatening the value systems tied to ecosystems, places, and products. As a result,
the relationship between environmental conditions and certified quality is becoming more
fragile across the Italian peninsula. This paper investigates how producers and consumers
perceive the risks posed by climate change to the ecosystem characteristics of Terroir, focus-
ing on Calabria—a southern Italian region marked by socio-environmental vulnerability
and a limited number of certified products. This fragility may further hinder certified
agri-food production, with serious implications for the local agribusiness sector. Using
a qualitative methodology, the study draws on questionnaires administered to produc-
ers and farmers, alongside interviews with key stakeholders and exploratory fieldworks.
Eventually, this research aims to identify major environmental risks impacting certified
production in Calabria, examine the adaptation strategies adopted by local producers,
and assess the perceived effectiveness of institutional support. It also explores whether
certifications such as PDO and PGI can act as tools to mitigate climate-related impacts
while enhancing product value and territorial resilience. These findings can inform more
effective policies for promoting sustainable, high-quality agri-food systems under changing
climate conditions in a transcalar perspective
Liquid-liquid equilibria of biodiesel + glycerol and biodiesel + water binary systems
The liquid-liquid equilibria (LLE) of the biodiesel + glycerol and biodiesel + water binary systems are experimentally measured at atmospheric pressure and in the temperature range from 310.35 K to 338.15 K, conditions relevant to the industrial process, solving the experimental challenges related to their direct measurement. The LLE data of these binary systems are pivotal for designing the biodiesel purification processes and determine the chemical equilibrium constant of the transesterification reaction of vegetable oil into biodiesel. However, unlike to the present study, this information is typically indirectly extrapolated from models regressed on ternary systems, undermining the reliability of the results. The experimental data were compared against the calculations provided by the UNIQUAC and UNIFAC models, with the binary interactions parameters (BIPs) of the UNIQUAC model validated on the experimental data. To ensure a thermodynamically consistent representation of the phase behaviour and smooth the experimental scattering of trace components, the BIPs are regressed by means of an algorithm that considers the experimental uncertainty. The results are compared with LLE data for biodiesel + glycerol and biodiesel + water from ternary systems measured by other laboratories

L’EPIDEMIA SOTTO LA LENTE DELLA LETTERATURA ITALIANA: una revisione storiografica in prospettiva sociologica
The extraordinary conditions in which the entire global community found itself in the recent Covid-19 epidemic have stimulated very different reflections and thoughts in public opinion. If in fact common attention has been concentrated on the scientific debate around the spread of the contagion and the remedies to limit it, this epochal fact has also been the subject of discussions that have attempted to analyze this epochal event in a sociological and anthropological perspective, that is, under a more generically 'cultural' profile. In particular, the dramatic uniqueness of the events that characterized the two-year period 2020-2021 has favored a line of thought aimed at retrospectively considering similar events that occurred in the past and at identifying some topical elements that have cyclically repeated themselves in the epidemics described by historians and writers. It will be sufficient to note how they have found space in a national newspaper with a very wide circulation (also online) such as the «Corriere della Sera»: if we consider a time span that, emblematically, goes from the beginning of the first lockdown to the very recent suspension of the main restrictions, we will see that the newspaper on March 20, 2020 hosted an intervention by a culture journalist who proposed a rereading of the Manzonian plague in light of the events of those days (Di Stefano, 2021) while on June 30, 2021 that of a scientist who proposed a cultural and literary journey on the theme of contagion tracing it back to the stories of Thucydides (Mantovani, 2021).
Having dealt with the plague in Italian literature a few years ago, it seems useful to return to the subject by extending the discussion to the cyclical nature of some social (but also anthropological and psychological) situations that recur in the history of epidemics. The investigative perspective presents itself as extremely broad since it deals with cases that from classical antiquity reach, as we have seen, the journalistic writing of the current moment. It seems reasonable to focus the research attention particularly on the epidemics recounted by the Italian historiographical and literary tradition. This certainly means returning to essential authors such as Boccaccio, Petrarca and Manzoni, whom I have already examined in the past with purely literary intentions, but also subjecting recently exhumed works to examination (such as the so-called Epistola della peste returned to Machiavelli by Stoppelli 2019) or extending the discussion to sectors of literature in which the social and anthropological element is predominant such as theatre and popular drama (on which Vescovo 2020).
The nuclei on which the discussion is articulated are three, the historiographical one, the sociological one and the literary one.
The interdisciplinary nature of the theme is necessary, which recounts, through the work of historians and chroniclers, the epidemics over the centuries, and analyses their social and system transformations, to arrive at the literary narration, the fulcrum of the entire work in three distinct but closely connected parts
Sensors and Devices Based on Electrochemical Skin Conductance and Bioimpedance Measurements for the Screening of Diabetic Foot Syndrome: Review and Meta-Analysis
Diabetic foot syndrome is a multifactorial disease involving different etiological factors. This syndrome is also insidious, due to frequent lack of early symptoms, and its prevalence has increased in recent years. This justifies the remarkable attention being paid to the syndrome, although the problem of effective early screening for this syndrome, possibly at a patient’s home, is still unsolved. However, some options appear available in this context. First, it was demonstrated that the temperature measurement of the foot skin is an interesting approach, but it also has some limitations, and hence a more effective approach should combine data from temperature and from other sensors. For this purpose, foot skin conductance or bioimpedance measurement may be a good option. Therefore, the aim of this study was to review those studies where skin conductance/bioimpedance measurement was used for the detection of diabetic foot syndrome. In addition, we performed a meta-analysis of some of those studies, where a widely used device was exploited (SUDOSCAN®) for foot skin conductance measurement, and we found that skin conductance levels can clearly distinguish between groups of patients with and without diabetic neuropathy, the latter being one of the most relevant factors in diabetic foot syndrome
Satisfaction in Romantic Relationships: The Role of Body Appreciation, Sexual Esteem and Sexual Assertiveness
Romantic relationship satisfaction is widely recognized as a foundational contributor to both psychological and physical well-being. However, research on its association with other key constructs, such as body appreciation, sexual esteem and sexual assertiveness, is still lacking, especially in reference to romantic relationships. The present study investigates the interplay between body appreciation, sexual esteem, and sexual assertiveness, and their combined influence on relationship satisfaction in individuals in heterosexual relationships in Italy. Participants were 473 adults (50.1% men, 49.7% women, 0.2% other; age range 18–49). Structural equation modeling revealed that while body appreciation was indirectly associated with sexual assertiveness, it significantly predicted sexual esteem. Sexual assertiveness, but not sexual esteem, was positively associated with relationship satisfaction. No significant gender differences were found in the structural relationships among the variables. These findings underscore a process through which sexual assertiveness and body appreciation can enhance relational well-being and inform educational programs aimed at promoting healthy romantic relationships
