Unveiling the creative self in midlife: A qualitative study of Italian women’s psychosocial transformation journeys

    No full text
: This qualitative study explores the psychosocial experiences of midlife Italian women, focusing on the evolution of their creative self. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, we examined narratives from eight women aged 51-62, capturing their spontaneous perception of the changes characterizing this phase of their life, with a particular focus on the subject of creativity. Three major themes emerged from the interviews: (1) Personal Growth, highlighting increased self-awareness, resilience in the face of adverse events and a deeper connection with their bodies; (2) Relationships with Others, underscoring shifts in friendships, family dynamics, and how relationships foster creativity; and (3) The Creative Self, which explores the redefinition of creativity in midlife as part of a broader transformative process. The study offers new insights into how midlife can serve as a fertile period for personal and creative development, challenging the dominant focus on loss often associated with ageing. This work contributes to the literature by highlighting the underexplored positive transformations occurring during this phase, particularly in the Italian socio-cultural context

The effect of Selenice Natural Bitumen on un-modified and polymer-modified bitumen rheological properties

    No full text
Selenice Natural Bitumen (SNB) is a natural bitumen with specific properties, which make it a valuable additive in asphalt mixtures in order to reduce the dosage of virgin bitumen, thus reducing the environmental footprint. The current state of the art validated its use in unmodified bituminous blends, highlighting the positive influence as an ageing inhibitor only at low dosages (≤ 10 %). In order to consider higher dosages of SNB in asphalt pavement materials, the objective of this study is to investigate the rheological properties of bituminous blends composed of SBS polymer-modified bitumen and SNB. The experimental program evaluated the addition of SNB in different dosages in an un-modified bitumen and an SBS polymer-modified bitumen. The analysis involved empirical and rheological properties at different ageing conditions. The main rheological characterization consisted in complex modulus tests, Multiple Stress-Creep Recovery (MSCR) tests and Linear Amplitude Sweep (LAS) tests. Overall, the results related to un-modified bituminous blends are consistent with findings reported in previous studies, confirming that a maximum SNB content of 10 % by weight is recommended to limit performance loss. Conversely, the experimental data did not support the feasibility of increasing the SNB dosage beyond 10 % when using SBS polymer-modified bitumen. The presence of SBS polymers in the modified blends did not mitigate the fatigue performance loss associated with SNB use. Therefore, the use of SNB at dosages exceeding 10 % by weight of the total bituminous blend is not ecommended, regardless of whether unmodified or SBS-modified bitumen is employed

Povertà educativa e studenti universitari ‘silenti’. Una questione emblematica per la pedagogia sociale

    No full text

    No full text

So numerous and rather confusing ... integrating insights on the grounded, embodied, and situated nature of spatial–numerical association

    No full text
Spatial-numerical associations have been widely studied in the last 2 decades and have brought important advancements for embodied cognition theories on knowledge representation. Over the years, Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance has contributed to disseminate seminal studies highlighting the role of grounded invariants (e.g., vertical spatial-numerical association of response codes, Hartmann et al., 2014), cultural habits (e.g., reading/writing direction, Shaki & Fischer, 2012; Shaki et al., 2012; Zohar-Shai et al., 2017), and situated constraints (e.g., mirror numbers, Marzola & Cohen, 2023; alternative number arrangements, Mingolo et al., 2021) on numerical representation. In this perspective article, we briefly review the contribution of these articles in the field, and we propose a broad overview of how these findings fit into grounded, embodied, and situated perspectives on numerical cognition. Are authenticity labels effective for local tourism efficiency? A regression discontinuity design approach

    No full text
Authenticity labels are policy instruments that aim to promote the development of local tourism by acting as territorial marketing tools. By issuing a recognisable certificate, they certify local assets of cultural, environmental and architectural value. This paper proposes a policy evaluation approach at the municipal level to examine the impact of two Italian initiatives based on the adoption of authenticity labels aimed at promoting local tourism development. The analysis is structured in two steps. First, we apply a two-stage double bootstrap Data Envelopment Analysis to calculate tourism efficiency scores for each municipality, taken as an outcome variable over the period 2014-2019. We then assess the local impact of authenticity labels on tourism efficiency in a Regression Discontinuity Design framework. Our results suggest that authenticity labels alone do not play a significant role in increasing local tourism efficiency unless the municipality already holds a long-established cultural vocation

Female Religiosity in Self-Narration: Some Indicative Elements and Suggestions from Empirical Materials

    No full text
This study stems from a collection of autobiographical narrations collected during a seminar held in February 2018 involving a small group of adults, representing the three major monotheistic religions: Catholicism, Judaism, and Islam. The seminar was organized by the University of Bologna (Department of Arts) in collaboration with the Association for Interreligious Dialogue “Abramo e Pace”. The aim of this paper is to reexamine the autobiographical narratives that emerged from the seminar, with a particular focus on the characteristics of female religious experiences in these religions, in order to identify distinctive trans-religious and transcultural signs. For this analysis, a sub-group of participants were selected, consisting of nine women, three Catholics, three Jews, and three Muslims, mainly between the ages of 35 and 45. The methodology used is a content analysis, which allows for a detailed examination of the narratives shared. From the narratives obtained, the religious education received in childhood and early adolescence emerges as a resource and support for the construction of personal identity regardless of the subsequent life paths taken by the individual. An additional pedagogical/educational theme of interest is represented by the intertwining of transformations of personal religiosity and dynamics of adult transformation, which is present in these narrations. Although the results do not aim for statistical representativeness, it is expected that the analysis will reveal certain constants that could inform subsequent, more systematic research efforts. In particular, it is expected that marriage, motherhood, and the education of children will emerge as moments of reactivation or revitalization of personal religiosity

The Bright Side of Breaking Up: How Territorial Fragmentation Increases Political Engagement in Local Communities

    No full text
Territorial reforms of administrative boundaries primarily aim at pursuing cost and administrative efficiency objectives, but their impact on the political engagement of local communities remains unclear. Moreover, while amalgamations have been widely studied, little is known about the effects of territorial fragmentation. To bridge this gap, we examine a regional reform in Italy's Apulia region, wherein five municipalities voluntarily underwent division in the mid-1970s. Through examining its long-term effects on voter turnout, we uncover new insights on the potential merits of territorial fragmentation in fostering enhanced political engagement, especially at the local level
