The weight of stigma: pressures for a healthy weight from health professionals can predict binge eating symptoms through the mediation of internalised weight stigma

    No full text
Background: This study explored the mediating role of internalised weight stigma in the relationship between the pressures exerted by health professionals to maintain a healthy weight and the symptoms of binge eating disorder (BED). Methods: A sample of 114 participants who screened positive for eating disorder symptoms, with a BMI of 28 kg/m2 or higher, primarily female, were enrolled at the Integrated Service for Eating Disorders at Sapienza University of Rome. BED symptoms, sociocultural influences on weight, internalised weight stigma, and psychological distress were assessed using report measures. Results: Our findings show that pressures from health professionals were significantly associated with binge eating symptoms through an indirect pathway via internalised weight stigma, controlling for patients' BMI. This mediation effect lessens when exposure to general conversations about healthy weight is included as the independent variable. Conclusions: These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics at play in obesity management and highlight the potential implications of healthcare communication strategies in overweight and obesity care. The study advocates for further research into developing more empathetic and effective approaches to obesity care

Ex vivo air–liquid interface respiratory mucosa platform to study type 2–driven Asthma

: Asthma is a heterogeneous disorder in which a subset of patients exhibits a type 2 (Th2- or T2-high) endotype driven by eosinophilic, IL-4/IL-13-mediated inflammation. Traditional animal and 2D cell-based models incompletely reproduce human airway immune responses, particularly the Th2 phenotype. To address this gap, we developed a three-dimensional (3D) ex vivo model of human nasal respiratory mucosa incorporating type-2-biased immune stimulation. Primary nasal mucosal biopsies were expanded under air-liquid interface (ALI) conditions and either exposed to IL-4/IL-13 or co-cultured with autologous polarized CD4+ Th2 lymphocytes and dendritic cells to generate a Th2-dominated microenvironment. Tissue morphology and barrier function were monitored longitudinally by phase-contrast microscopy and transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER). Induction of a type-2 inflammatory state was confirmed by increased secretion of periostin, STAT-6, IL-4 and IL-13 in apical and basal compartments, together with modest TEER reduction and evidence of epithelial remodeling, whereas IL-8 and chitinase family proteins did not increase, thereby excluding a COPD-like or type-2-low phenotype. Rather than fully recapitulating clinical asthma, this methodological model reproduces key immunopathologic features of T2-high airway inflammation in a patient-derived 3D context. It provides a stable, human-relevant platform for mechanistic studies and for future preclinical screening of targeted anti-inflammatory therapies

Le imprese familiari della cartapesta tra sinergie relazionali e cooperazioni per la ricerca e lo sviluppo

Family papier-mâché businesses represent artisanal economic entities that, although limited in the Italian context, provide a source of value community in which they operate through their artistic production. This study aims to analyze the importance of relational synergies and cooperation for research and development in this specific type of business. The objective of the hypothesis is to identify how the development of constructive relationships between internal human resources, including in terms of cohesion towards the local community, and cooperation between businesses for research and development, tends to promote improved performance. After reviewing the literature and taking into consideration the reflections emerging also from the case studies, a questionnaire was administered to three family papier-mâché businesses. The results confirmed the research hypotheses, also identifying some related challenges. This research, although limited due to the small sample size of the businesses involved in the questionnaire administration, has managerial implications. Its originality stems from its historical treatment of the topic, which refers to a type of family business that has not yet been extensively explored

    Metaverse: An Environmental Sustainability Tool?

    No full text
To be genuinely competitive today, organizations cannot ignore ethical issues and their impact on the environment and the community. In the fashion industry specifically, the issue of sustainability has become central as the socio-environmental impact of the industry is enormous. The fast fashion model adopted by so many companies operating on the global market is the exact opposite of the ethical dimension of fashion that has been needed in recent years. Can innovation and the opportunities the Metaverse offers be the way to a more sustainable fashion? In recent years, many start-ups have sprung up that exclusively produce digital fashion, and many other companies whose core business is mainly in real life (IRL) have integrated digital fashion into their business strategies. Through the investigation of four case studies, the paper aims to investigate the lights and shadows of digital fashion in the Metaverse, trying to clarify whether this model is compatible with the need for a more sustainable fashion, especially from an environmental point of view
