    Innovare la formazione degli insegnanti: competenza digitale e learning design nello sviluppo professionale online

    L’articolo indaga lo sviluppo di pratiche didattiche innovative nella formazione di docenti della scuola secondaria, sul tema della didattica per competenze e nell’uso didattico del digitale, in una logica di learning design, che aggiorna il concetto di Media Education in una prospettiva più ampia e contemporanea. Sulla base dell’esperienza di higher education svolta online in sincrono tra marzo 2024 e maggio 2025 con 25.000 docenti iscritti ai corsi di 180 ore per conseguire i 30 crediti ECTS, lo studio riflette sul ruolo delle competenze digitali nell'ambito dei principali compiti solitamente assegnati ai docenti in ambito di expertise e approfondisce l'analisi delle affordance didattiche del digitale, in riferimento all’impatto delle competenze digitali nell’innovazione didattica e alle potenzialità del digitale in ambito formativo nella logica delle Community Technologies, anche in un'ottica di emersione e prevenzione della Povertà Educativa Digitale

    PRODACT, a tool to analyse digital products created by students, against Digital Educational Poverty

    Il concetto di “povertà educativa digitale” è stato introdotto nel 2021 da CREMIT e Save the Children, ampliando quello di “divario digitale”. L’articolo illustra come questo quadro teorico derivi dall’ibridazione di due prospettive attraverso cui si può comprendere la competenza digitale: quella dei diritti e quella delle Nuove Alfabetizzazioni. Al centro dell’articolo si trova la descrizione dello strumento PRODACT (PROmote Digital Analysis and Competences in Transmedia), sviluppato nel 2023 dagli autori e applicato tra il 2021 e il 2024 ai prodotti creati da 6.598 minori (la maggior parte di 12 o 13 anni) nell’ambito di un progetto che ha coinvolto 99 scuole secondarie in tutta Italia. PRODACT è stato concepito per supportare gli insegnanti nella valutazione degli artefatti digitali realizzati dagli studenti, sottolineando la centralità delle pratiche in una relazione dialettica tra teoria e applicazione, tra consumo e produzione, tra critica e creatività. È strutturato attorno a cinque dimensioni e otto indicatori, che sono stati adattati e raffinati in sette versioni specifiche per ciascun tipo di formato (voce Wikipedia, petizione online, podcast di intervista d’indagine, podcast di recensione, visual storytelling, video storytelling e social marketing). L’articolo analizza 350 prodotti attraverso PRODACT, dimostrando come la competenza digitale debba essere considerata dinamica e non statica (non qualcosa che si ottiene “una volta per tutte”) e come, in questa prospettiva, PRODACT consenta una valutazione integrata e comparativa della ricchezza e della complessità degli aspetti che definiscono tali prodotti, promuovendone l’uso nelle pratiche didattiche curricolari.The construct of ‘digital educational poverty’was introduced in 2021 by CREMIT and Save the Children, expanding on the concept of the ‘digital divide’. The article presents how this framework is the outcome of the hybridisation of two perspectives through which digital competence can be understood: that of ‘rights’and that of ‘New Literacies’. At the heart of the article is the description of the PRODACT tool (PROmote Digital Analysis and Competences in Transmedia), developed in 2023 by the authors and applied between 2021 and 2024 to products created by 6,598 minors (most of them 12 or 13 years old) within the framework of a project involving 99 secondary schools throughout Italy. PRODACT was designed to support teachers in evaluating the digital artefacts produced by students, emphasising the centrality of practices in a dialectical relationship between theory and application, between consumption and production, and between criticism and creativity. It is structured around five dimensions and eight indicators, which were adapted and refined into seven specific versions tailored to each format type (Wikipedia, online petition, podcast investigation interview, podcast review, visual storytelling, video storytelling, and social marketing). The article analyses 350 products through PRODACT, demonstrating how digital competence must be considered dynamic rather than static (not something obtained ‘once and for all’) and how, in this perspective, PRODACT enables an integrated and comparative evaluation of the richness and complexity of the aspects that define these products, promoting their use in curricular teaching practices

    BESS-Enabled Smart Grid Environments: A Comprehensive Framework for Cyber Threat Classification, Cybersecurity, and Operational Resilience

    Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) are critical to smart grid functioning but are exposed to mounting cybersecurity threats with their integration into IoT and cloud-based control systems. Current solutions tend to be deficient in proper multi-class attack classification, secure encryption, and full integrity and power quality features. This paper proposes a comprehensive framework that integrates machine learning for attack detection, cryptographic security, data validation, and power quality control. With the BESS-Set dataset for binary classification, Random Forest achieves more than 98.50% accuracy, while LightGBM attains more than 97.60% accuracy for multi-class classification on the resampled data. Principal Component Analysis and feature importance show vital indicators such as State of Charge and battery power. Secure communication is implemented using Elliptic Curve Cryptography and a hybrid Blowfish–RSA encryption method. Data integrity is ensured through applying anomaly detection using Z-scores and redundancy testing, and IEEE 519-2022 power quality compliance is ensured by adaptive filtering and harmonic analysis. Real-time feasibility is demonstrated through hardware implementation on a PYNQ board, thus making this framework a stable and feasible option for BESS security in smart grids

    Sex-specific sleep disturbances worsen psychiatric symptoms and cognitive decline in individuals with Alzheimer's disease

    : BackgroundThe possible association between sleep disturbances, neuropsychiatric symptoms and progression of cognitive decline considering sex still need to be clarified.ObjectiveThe aims of the study were to evaluate the possible associations between disturbed sleep (DS) and neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) and to evaluate the possible association between DS, cognitive decline progression and caregiver burden focusing on sex-differences.Methods184 participants were collected within the CATIE-AD trial. Based on the response given by the caregiver to the Neuropsychiatric Inventory, patients were classified into AD with disturbed sleep (AD-DS) or AD without disturbed sleep (ADwDS). Cognitive performance and NPS were evaluated. Progression was evaluated with the Δ-Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) (baseline MMSE-MMSE at 3-month follow-up). A sex stratified analysis was carried out.ResultsAD-DS performed worse than participants with ADwDS at all the cognitive tests. AD-DS presented more frequently depression, anxiety, aberrant motor behavior, disinhibition and eating disorders. At the sex-stratified analysis, AD-DS women were more frequently disinhibited and depressed than ADwDS. Men with AD-DS presented worse performances at several cognitive tests. Furthermore, various NPS were more frequent in men with AD-DS than in those with ADwDS, including hallucination, agitation, depression, and aberrant motor behavior. The burden was higher in caregivers of men belonging to the AD-DS group. Finally, at the linear regression, adjusting for age, education and MMSE at baseline, the presence of disturbed sleep was related to a more evident decline in MMSE in men (coeff. 2.5; 95%CI 0.72-4.29; p-value 0.006).ConclusionsDS was associated with several NPS, caregiver burden and, in men, faster cognitive decline progression

    Tourism-driven carbon emissions and the innovation response: A cross-country analysis of extended QUAD economies

    Carbon emissions can be reduced by addressing robust environmental degradation. The current study examines the nuanced relationship between tourism and carbon emissions in the presence of technological innovation as a moderating variable for the Extended QUAD countries for 21 years (2000 to 2020). Using panel quantile regression and pre-diagnostic tests for cross-sectional dependence, slope heterogeneity, it emerged that technological innovation alone is not able to mitigate tourism's effect on carbon emissions. Results of quantile regression highlight a positive impact of technological innovation and tourism combined with emissions. Moreover, the variables employed, such as GDP, trade openness, and renewable energy show a strong correlation with emissions, underlining the necessity for policies targeting these factors to effectively reduce carbon footprints. Further, a positive correlation between trade openness and carbon emissions aligns with the pollution haven hypothesis; however, Environmental Kuznets Curve based hypothesis has been rejected by the presence of a positive relationship across different quantiles. The findings aim to offer insights for policymakers to harmonize economic growth with environmental sustainability pertaining to the tourism sector. The present study contributes to literature by exploring the role of technological innovation as a moderator in the tourism-emission nexus, providing a deeper understanding of sustainable tourism practices

    Distribution of Cardiovascular Modifiable Risk Factors in a Corporate Wellness Program: A Case Study of Occupational Cardiology in the Ferrari Company

    Introduction: Cardiovascular (CV) diseases are the leading cause of mortality worldwide, and preventive strategies are increasingly focusing on early detection and management of risk factors. Corporate Wellness Programs (CWPs) in workplaces play a crucial role in the primary prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases, especially for early CV modifiable risk detection and management in apparently healthy individuals. Aim: This study explores the prevalence and age-related distribution of CV modifiable risk factors in a large cohort of Ferrari car manufacturer employees evaluated through a CWP. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted among 1992 employees participating for the first time in the "Ferrari Formula Benessere" CWP in Maranello, Italy, throughout 2023. The program included a comprehensive medical evaluation, personal and family history, anthropometric measurements, blood testing, and blood pressure evaluation. Data on demographic characteristics, health behaviors, and CV modifiable risk factors were collected and analyzed. Results: Most participants were males (82%), with a mean age of 40 ± 9 years. Findings revealed a notable prevalence of CV modifiable risk factors: 17.3% were active smokers, 43.2% reported physical inactivity, 34.8% were classified as overweight (body mass index ≥ 25), and 7.7% as obese. Early screening identified a significant proportion of employees with elevated CV risk according to the SCORE2 algorithm: 39% were categorized as having a high CV risk and 2% at a very high CV risk. In addition, 6.4% had impaired fasting glycemia (100-125 mg/dL), 3.8% had dyslipidemia and 6.8% had high blood pressure (systolic blood pressure 140-159 mmHg): almost none of them (98%) were on treatment. Conclusions: The "Ferrari Formula Benessere" identified a wide range of CV modifiable risk factors in a cohort of apparently healthy employees, not routinely screened, highlighting the essential role of CWPs in the early detection and management of CV health risks. These findings underscore the importance of integrating regular health assessments into corporate wellness strategies to mitigate CV risk and promote overall employee well-being
