Educare la città. Patrimonio culturale, volontariato e bellezza per una rigenerazione inclusiva

    No full text
Urban regeneration cannot be limited to the physical transformation of spaces, but must translate into an authentic collective learning process. In the Learning Cities perspective, the cultural heritage and the educating community become strategic resources for lifelong, inclusive and sustainable education: in this regard, volunteering and the figure of the neighbourhood educator assume a key role in strengthening the social fabric, promoting educational proximity and community cohesion. Through social pedagogy, skills and professionalism can be developed to respond to urban fragilities and foster a new welfare; the PRIN project ‘CHECK OUT – Cultural heritage and educating communities. Training competences and professionalism for a new urban welfare’ explores these dynamics, highlighting the link between education, care and beauty as a lever for social regeneration and widespread welfare

Smart cities need smart human resources management. Generating value for the city and the community through sustainable behaviors.

    No full text
This book examines smart cities through the lens of the information and communication technology (ICT)-driven transformation of the economy and economic systems and the resulting changes influencing organizations (public, private, and voluntary) and citizens in the smart city. In this context, the chapters included in this book address very specific questions pertaining to modes and models of economic collaboration, interest aggregation, and determinants of sustainable growth and development in the smart city. To this end, the circular economy, the sharing economy, the platform economy, and open innovation in the smart city are discussed. The notions of economic performance, competition, and business model innovation (BMI) are elaborated in detail. Finally, the question of the fragility of labor markets, including the availability of talent, is explored. By applying conceptually sound, inter-and multi-disciplinary approaches, frequently including case studies, this book provides a thorough insight into the complex question of how tools specific to the fields of economics, business management, innovation management, strategic management, entrepreneurship, and human resource management can be useful in view of understanding and harnessing the intrusion of ICT in the city space

AI-Driven Attack Detection and Cryptographic Privacy Protection for Cyber-Resilient Industrial Control Systems

    No full text
Industrial control systems (ICS) are increasingly vulnerable to evolving cyber threats due to the convergence of operational and information technologies. This research presents a robust cybersecurity framework that integrates machine learning-based anomaly detection with advanced cryptographic techniques to protect ICS communication networks. Using the ICS-Flow dataset, we evaluate several ensemble models, with XGBoost achieving 99.92% accuracy in binary classification and Decision Tree attaining 99.81% accuracy in multi-class classification. Additionally, we implement an LSTM autoencoder for temporal anomaly detection and employ the ADWIN technique for real-time drift detection. To ensure data security, we apply AES-CBC with HMAC and AES-GCM with RSA encryption, which demonstrates resilience against brute-force, tampering, and cryptanalytic attacks. Security assessments, including entropy analysis and adversarial evaluations (IND-CPA and IND-CCA), confirm the robustness of the encryption schemes against passive and active threats. A hardware implementation on a PYNQ Zynq board shows the feasibility of real-time deployment, with a runtime of 0.11 s. The results demonstrate that the proposed framework enhances ICS security by combining AI-driven anomaly detection with RSA-based cryptography, offering a viable solution for protecting ICS networks from emerging cyber threats

Per un'Etnosemiotica dei media? L'approccio generativo e i Media Studies

    No full text

Technical progress, organisational innovations and labour intensity

    No full text
The purpose of this article is to discuss the combined effects of Industry 4.0 and lean production in the context of global supply chains on working conditions. Our thesis is that the changes of technique based on integrating Industry 4.0 technologies with lean production incur a substantial cost to labour, manifesting as increased work intensity. In Marxian terminology, they have increased the extraction rate of relative surplus value. Our contribution is closely related to the critical global value chain literature and proposes to contribute to this literature by emphasising the relevance of Industry 4.0 technologies in implementing lean production methods and reinforcing control by head companies over the entire chain. Additionally, it discusses how these dynamics manifest in companies and impact the world of work through surveys conducted with workers. These surveys were carried out in a set of Italian metal-mechanical companies involved in various global chains

Machine learning-based predictive maintenance: empirical insights of challenges and countermeasures

    No full text
Predictive Maintenance (PdM) has gained attention to reduce production-related costs and downtime, with Machine Learning (ML) emerging as a prominent technique. However, ML benefits are often achieved using laboratory or reference datasets. These may differ from real-world industrial data, raising doubts about ML applicability in real-world settings. This work addresses this issue, showing that ML adoption for PdM in industry is low. Furthermore, using a Delphi study, key challenges hindering ML adoption are identified and prioritised. Interestingly, some relevant challenges (e.g. the need for training employees) are overlooked by the literature. Furthermore, to boost PdM adoption, we identified and prioritized potential countermeasures based on practitioner insights. It emerged that some countermeasures can tackle multiple challenges (e.g. training programs). Our findings benefit both scholars and practitioners. Scholars may focus on relevant challenges to facilitate ML adoption for PdM. Practitioners are provided with a set of effective countermeasures to cope with relevant challenges

Imprese e politiche di responsabilità sociale: il caso Coesia

    No full text
The essay analyzes not only the multifaceted and complex relationship between business and social responsibility, but also the related challenges of balancing the economic performance with the growing community expectations. Therefore, in increasingly and rapidly changing environmental contexts, and considering internal and external factors, businesses are called upon to adopt and disseminate a socially responsible corporate culture and to promote sustainable development. The study also focuses on the case of the multinational Coesia, with particular reference to its corporate social responsibility policies
