Building numeracy from the earliest years of life. Evidence and experiences.
Abstract: Several research summaries indicate that the early years of life are a crucial period for
building children's numeracy and providing them with conceptual tools that can promote future
academic success in mathematics and related disciplines. Important factors appear to be the activities
offered and the type of interaction established with adults, both educators and parents. Starting from
a review of the existing literature, this contribution proposes activities and mediation pathways useful
for understanding, interpreting, using, and communicating mathematical information, based on games
and protocols specifically designed to connect basic mathematical concepts with everyday situations.
The activities and protocols are inspired both by the experiences of Carl Haywood's Bright Start
method and its developments, and by approaches that combine the enactive (direct experience,
manipulation, concrete perception of objects), iconic (representation of concepts through images),
and symbolic (use of language, natural and mathematical) aspects of numeracy.
scolastico futuro in matematica e nelle discipline correlate.
come genitore.
Antagonist Static Stretching Between Sets Improves Leg Press Repetition Performance in Adolescent Female Volleyball Players: A Randomized Crossover Within-Subject Design
This study aimed to investigate the effect of antagonist static stretching applied between
sets during resistance training on the number of repetitions of leg press exercise in young
volleyball players. For this purpose, a total of 16 female active volleyball players (age
15.50 ± 0.52 years; height 167.25 ± 6.10; body mass 57.00 ± 5.98) participated voluntarily.
The athletes participating in the study visited the laboratory five times. In the first session,
anthropometric measurements were taken. In the second session, their 10 repetition
maximums (RTs) were recorded, and in the third session, 10 control RTs were recorded.
In the other two sessions, athletes were randomly assigned to two experimental protocol
treatments in accordance with the crossover experimental design. In the traditional application,
leg press exercise was performed as four sets with their own maximums and
2 min of passive rest between sets. In the experimental application, the participants performed
four sets of leg press exercise with ten repetitions of their own maximums until
concentric exhaustion, and static hamstring stretching was applied continuously for 30 s
over 2 min between sets. All participants participated in both application protocols in
different sessions. SPSS 20.0 package programed and GraphPad Prizm 8 graphics program
were used for the analysis of all data. Data were analyzed at 0.05 significance level. In the
findings obtained, Group* application interaction was found to be statistically significant
according to the application and groups (F = 4.198, p = 0.016, p
2 = 0.219). In the leg
press repetitions, statistical significance was found in favor of the experimental treatment
in the third and fourth sets. This study shows that antagonist static stretching applied
between sets positively affects resistance training performance by increasing the number of
repetitions in leg press exercise in young female volleyball players

ECC/FRCM-Confinement of Concrete Columns: Understanding the Symbiosis Interaction Between Fabric and Matrix
Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) and Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix/Mortar (FRCM) systems have emerged as a promising solution for the structural strengthening and/or seismic retrofitting of Reinforced Concrete (RC) columns offering greater compatibility with concrete and improved fire resistance compared to epoxy-based composites like Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs). The efficacy of these systems is fundamentally linked to the synergistic interaction between the fabric reinforcement and the cementitious matrix, which plays a critical role in ensuring effective confinement and overall mechanical performance. This study delves into the impact of various ECC/FRCM systems on the behavior of confined concrete columns subjected to pure compression, with a particular emphasis into the fabric-to-matrix symbiosis. At this scope, an extensive experimental program was carried out, involving different types of fabric (i.e. Carbon, Glass and PBO) and matrix compositions to evaluate their influence on compressive strength, ductility, and failure mechanisms of RC columns. Furthermore, additional tests were conducted without the fabric component to isolate and quantify the matrix’s standalone contribution to the confinement system’s overall effectiveness. The results highlighted significant performance variations stemming from the compatibility and congruency between the deformability characteristics of the fabric and matrix. These findings underscore the importance of precise material selection and optimization to fully harness the structural benefits of ECC/FRCM systems, paving the way for their advanced application in RC column strengthening
Copper Dysregulation in Major Depression: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analytic Evidence for a Putative Trait Marker
