NeuberNet: a neural operator solving elastic-plastic partial differential equations at V-notches from low-fidelity elastic simulations
: Stress concentrations at geometric irregularities such as reentrant corners make it challenging to efficiently simulate localized plastic deformation in engineering materials. Fully nonlinear models capture these effects accurately but are computationally costly, whereas simplified elastic analyses neglect important nonlinearities. Here, we present NeuberNet, a Multi-Task Nonlinear Manifold Decoder that learns mappings between far-field displacement boundary conditions from low-fidelity elastic simulations and the corresponding high-resolution stress and strain fields derived from elastic-plastic axisymmetric solid mechanics, under assumptions of small-scale plasticity and bilinear isotropic hardening. NeuberNet serves as a data-driven implementation of the substructuring principle, designed to model complex geometries by activating plastic behavior only near stress raisers where nonlinearities arise. We provide guidelines for mesh resolution in low-fidelity simulations, demonstrate NeuberNet's ability to identify violations of the small-scale plasticity assumption, and assess its robustness to nonlinear hardening laws. We also show that NeuberNet generalizes to 3D problems with axisymmetric geometries and non-symmetric boundary conditions. Overall, NeuberNet provides a reliable and computationally efficient framework for small-scale plasticity analysis
Esplorando i confini fra tutela dei segni distintivi, diritto all’immagine ed esclusiva sul ritratto: quali convergenze (concettuali e) rimediali?
Il contributo affronta il tema del risarcimento del danno da abuso dell’immagine altrui e da violazione
dell’esclusiva sul ritratto. Prendendo spunto da una recente decisione del Tribunale di Catania, sia
pure andando oltre i fatti di causa, si cerca di analizzare l’evoluzione della tutela dei diritti all’immagine,
ponendo l’accento sulla loro progressiva patrimonializzazione e proprietarizzazione. Il lavoro dà rilievo
alle equivalenze funzionali ed alle convergenze rimediali fra tutela autorale del ritratto e tutela del
marchio notorio, al fine di dare una spiegazione più coerente alla curvatura deterrente e pararestitutoria
assunta dai rimedi risarcitori in questo ambito. Infine, si cercherà di estendere tali
considerazioni a tutti i nomi ed i ritratti dotati di capacità distintiva e pubblicitaria, trattando il caso
della ditta individuale, altresì oggetto della controversia in esame.The present comment tackles the issue of quantifying damages for infringements of image rights.
Taking inspiration from a decision of the First Instance Court of Catania, although going well beyond
that, this case note starts with an overview of the notion and remedies applied within the field of
imagerights, paying particular attention to their gradual monetization and propertisation.Thenwewill
draw attention to the functional equivalences and convergences between the remedies adopted to
protect image rights and those deployed in trademark law for well-known and unregistered marks. In
this sense, the objective is to give a dogmatically feasible explanation for the tendency inferable from
Italian case law to move towards punitive damages or restitution in cases which involve image rights
like the one under examination. Finally, we will try to extend the analysis to all cases where image
rights are associated with marks gifted with advertising and distinctive value, such as in the case of
the sole trader who uses his name to identify the enterprise

A Comprehensive Review of Secondary Carbon Carriers for Ironmaking and Steelmaking Processes: Industrial Utilization of Non-biogenic Materials in Steel Production
The steel industry, one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonize, is responsible for approximately 5% of CO2 emissions in the European Union and 7% globally. Achieving the goal of climate neutrality by 2050 requires reducing the industry’s reliance on carbon-based fossil resources, primarily natural gas and coal. This comprehensive review discusses the use of non-biogenic materials in the steel industry. Various types of waste play a significant role in a circular economy scenario. The circular economy approach is essential for achieving carbon–neutral steel production. The utilization of non-biogenic secondary carbon carriers, such as polymers from waste plastics and rubber from tires, serves as auxiliary reducing agents and slag foaming materials, supporting the smart carbon usage in a process integration framework. In cokemaking, replacing coal with non-biogenic materials has been identified as a cost-effective and sustainable solution. This approach aims to enhance the energy and resource efficiency of recycling processes for both post-consumer (end-of-life products) and postindustrial (materials produced during manufacturing) plastic-containing materials. Finally, the review examines methane cracking, which produces hydrogen and solid carbon. Not All That Glitters Is Gold! The Brokerage Role of Consulting Companies in Disseminating Information to Overcome the Barriers to Metaverse Adoption
The last few years have seen a reemergence in the awareness of virtual worlds among practitioners and academics. Driven by
tech giants' investments, the Metaverse is considered by some as an unprecedented revolutionary technology with the potential to
unlock an entire gamut of new unexplored opportunities for both companies and individuals. Others instead talk of “Metaverse
dream fallacy” for search traffic for the word Metaverse has collapsed by roughly 80% over the past year and some companies
have discontinued their Metaverse projects. In such a puzzled situation, managers are left without solid advice on the Metaverse
concrete adoption and adoption speed. This article explores the brokerage role of top consulting companies in disseminating
information that makes managers aware of Metaverse concrete adoption and of its adoption speed. Based on an AI- supported
thematic analysis of 199 documents on Metaverse published by world's top consulting companies in the 2 years 2021–2023, we
identify four key barriers to Metaverse adoption and categorize them into an enriched four- legged TOE (i.e., technological, or
ganizational, environmental, and human barriers) framework. In the process, we unveil a suite of managerially relevant aspects
emerging from tapping into the Metaverse adoption process
Human Rights in Times of Emergency
The final report of the International Law Association Committee on Human Rights in Times of Emergency (hereafter, the Committee or CHRTE) critically examines selected State practice on emergency situations with a focus on the last three decades. States have pursued emergency measures in increasingly numerous and diverse contexts. They have done so with or without formally declaring states of emergency and/or notifying relevant United Nations (UN) or regional bodies. As such, the following three types of states of emergency that can be observed in practice will be the focus of the report: declared and notified (derogation), declared (de jure), and non-declared (de facto) emergencies. By analysing State practice, the present report demonstrates the profound impact that states of emergency have on the enjoyment of human rights, the rule of law and democratic governance. It should be read together with the CHRTE’s interim report (2020), which identified developments in standard-setting over the last 30 years relating to states of emergency through a review of the practice of UN treaty bodies, regional commissions and courts, and other human rights mechanisms
LimbMATE: A Versatile Platform for Closed-Loop Research in Prosthetics
The rapid advancements in machine learning methodologies carry a wide potential to match the increasing control demands of modern robotic hands. In particular, myoelectric pattern recognition is recognized nowadays as a viable means to facilitate the multi-functional control of prosthetic devices, for both lower and upper limb amputations. However, such solutions require dedicated and specific hardware: versatile yet robust, low-power yet computationally powerful. Here, we present LimbMATE: a compact and modular embedded system for the intuitive real-time control of prostheses by decoding either differential or pre-amplified bioelectric signals. It is compatible with various prosthetic components and feedback actuators, disposing of major communication peripherals to adapt to other devices’ proprietary protocols. Moreover, it includes Bluetooth capabilities, and it implements an advanced real-time clock calendar-based logging system for tracking prosthesis usage, opening for long-term at-home longitudinal studies. The LimbMATE system was bench-verified to prove suitable power consumption (<200 mW), real-time operation, and long-term data storage (1 sec/day tolerance). Finally, it was validated with twelve non-disabled participants and two end-users with upper limb amputation via both virtual and real-life-inspired functional assessments. LimbMATE showed the capability for robust and responsive inference of the intended movements to enable intuitive bidirectional control of a multi-articulated prosthesis
Designing and delivering managerial training for the turnaround of a National Health System. Lessons and reflections from research evidence and field work in the Romanian NHS
Contemporary scholarships in leadership and management increasingly emphasizes the centrality of competent leaders and professionals in enhancing performance at both organizational and system levels, particularly within public health systems facing growing demands for sustainability and reform. Despite initial efforts across various National Health Systems (NHSs) to strengthen managerial capabilities, progress remains constrained by structural path-dependencies and professional bureaucracies. This study investigates the design and implementation of a large-scale, competency-based managerial training program within the Romanian NHS, developed between 2023 and 2024 with the support of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization. The intervention followed a multi-phase approach, including a comprehensive literature review and a national needs assessment involving 1200 stakeholders through semistructured interviews and online surveys. A Training-of-Trainers (ToT) scheme was delivered to 150 selected participants by academic experts from Italy, Spain, and Portugal. These trainers subsequently facilitated system-wide training activities, reaching up to 5000 clinical leaders and managers across the country. Findings underscore the strategic relevance of tailored training initiatives in advancing competence-based human resource management. Common training needs identified include leadership, strategic planning, ethics, change management, and systems thinking. The Romanian experience offers transferable insights for designing context-sensitive training programs capable of fostering system-wide organizational transformation in other transitioning health systems
