Supporting the digital transformation journey through monitoring systems in healthcare. A comparative analysis of European empirical approaches through an adaptation of the IPOO framework
This study explores how digital transformation (DT) is operationalized and measured within Health System
Performance Assessments (HSPAs) across European Union (EU) countries. By conducting a documentary analysis
of national HSPAs through the READ approach, we identified 11 EU countries that include digital health metrics
and extracted a total of 93 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These indicators were systematically categorized
using the Input-Process-Output-Outcome (IPOO) framework and clustered into four deductively derived domains
and corresponding sub-domains. Building on this empirical foundation, we propose a novel conceptual framework that integrates theoretical and practical dimensions of DT monitoring. The framework assigns representative KPIs to each IPOO phase and highlights critical but currently under-monitored areas. Despite notable
progress in areas such as electronic health records, telemedicine, and digital service usage, the findings reveal
persistent challenges. Furthermore, significant variability exists across countries in the adoption and computability of DT indicators. By providing a structured model and a comprehensive pool of indicators, this study
contributes to both academic literature and practical policymaking. It supports efforts to guide DT measurement
across healthcare systems while maintaining the flexibility needed to adapt to diverse national contexts. Future
research should explore the evolving integration of DT metrics and continue to address gaps that hinder effective
performance monitoring and policy development in healthcare digitalization
The social report as a multilevel tool in addressing institutional pressures: management and policy implications for nonprofit organizations
Purpose: The role of the third sector in contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is crucial. However, the limited availability of public data and the absence of systematic monitoring systems diminish the legitimacy of these organizations regarding their impact. Despite the recognition of the third sector role, a systematic method to assess and reveal its impact or contribution has not been developed or widely shared. The social report in voluntary organizations is, in this context, a key tool prompted by the third sector reform. The purpose of this paper is to find methods, data and indicators for consideration in this evaluation process. Design/methodology/approach: Action research is used as a method for investigating the implementation of social reports within an Italian sport association, particularly within the context of the new third sector reform. Findings: The findings reveal the importance of aligning normative obligations with global priorities, facilitating the evaluation of an organization’s contribution to the SDGs over the medium to long term. This study offers a practical blueprint for third-sector organizations to structure their social reports and evaluate their impact on global sustainability priorities. Originality/value: The 2030 Agenda serves as a comprehensive framework for assessing the sustainability performance of individual organizations and gauging their potential impact on the SDGs

Underwater Inspection Platform for Vision-Based Biodiversity Identification
Marine biodiversity monitoring is crucial for understanding and mitigating the impacts of environmental change, overfishing, and habitat degradation. In this work, we present an autonomous, fish-inspired robotic platform designed for in situ identification of marine species. The system allows for realtime perception and classification without reliance on external computation. A lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) was trained on a custom dataset comprising over annotated images of marine organisms, including dolphins, belugas, jellyfish, sharks, and rays, collected from public datasets, fieldwork, and major aquariums worldwide. The combination of agile underwater navigation and embedded neural processing offers a scalable and non-invasive solution for marine biodiversity inspection. The synergy between robotic platforms and deep learning represents a fundamental advancement toward autonomous, in situ ecological monitoring in dynamic and unstructured aquatic habitats
