Toward Realistic AI-Generated Student Questions to Support Instructor Training
Instructor effectiveness is fundamental to student learning, with the ability to manage student inquiries serving as a critical component of effective teaching. Student questions represent a valuable training resource for instructors to strengthen their teaching strategies, yet interactions with students are often constrained by several factors. In this paper, we investigate how instructors perceive machine- and student-generated questions, considering the potential for the former to complement the latter in a cost-effective manner. Our study involved 121 undergraduate students and an equivalent number of simulated students modeled using a state-of-the-art large language model, generating over 360 questions in total based on video lectures given by seven university instructors. We assessed whether instructors could distinguish between human- and machine-generated questions and how they evaluated their relevance, clarity, answerability, challenge level, and cognitive depth. Results show that instructors struggle to differentiate between the two sets of questions, with accuracy close to random chance. Instructors tended to (i) rate machine-generated questions slightly higher in relevance, clarity, answerability, and challenge—though only relevance and answerability showed significant differences—and (ii) associate them marginally more often with higher-order cognitive skills. This confirms the potential of machine-generated questions as tools for instructor training. Repository: https://github.com/tail-unica/realistic-ai-generated-questions
En busca del hijo perdido: a propósito de una comedia novelesca atribuida a Lope (II).
This study examines the play La esclava de su hijo, whose text survives solely through a single Seventeenth-Century manuscript. Although it is mentioned in the second edition of El peregrino en su patria, the play has never been definitively attributed to Lope, largely due to the high proportion of romances, as noted by Morley and Bruerton in their study [1968:460-461]. Building on a previous article in which I analyzed several loci that the sole modern editor was unable to decipher —and which reveal the unmistakable imprint of Lope’s style—, in the present work I undertake a comprehensive analysis of the romances from various perspectives, aiming to demonstrate that there is no substantial evidence to challenge the attribution of the play to the Fénix.
Considerations of Embodiment in Geometry: Discovering New Ways of Moving, Perceiving, and Reasoning Across Micro, Meso, and Macro spaces
Embodied learning, rooted in the embodied cognition paradigm, posits that knowledge emerges from the interaction of perception, action, and cognition in a dynamic interplay with the environment (e.g., Pouw et al., 2014). This perspective challenges the dichotomy of mind and body, asserting that cognition is inherently sensorimotor and situated. The growing variety of approaches to embodied learning (Abrahamson et al., 2020; Radford et al., 2017; Sinclair & de Freitas, 2019) is gaining increasing significance in mathematics education.
Embodied learning in geometry education, which emphasises physical manipulation, sensory experiences, and collaborative exploration to develop a conceptual understanding of spatial relationships and geometric properties, was identified as a major trend in the ICME-13 survey team report (Sinclair et al., 2016). In terms of Western scholarship, this perspective is philosophically grounded in Locke’s empiricism, particularly his discussion of the Molyneux problem (Figure 1, Locke, 1689/1998), which questions whether a person born blind, upon gaining sight, could visually recognise objects previously known through touch. Locke argued that cross-modal recognition must be learned through experience. Recent cognitive studies support this view, showing that neural plasticity and sensorimotor engagement are essential for integrating tactile and visual modalities (Held & Ostrovsky, 2011; Noë, 2004). The Molyneux problem, inherently geometric, underscores the importance of embodied interaction in transitioning from perceiving to reasoning about spatial forms—a process central to geometry education (Nathan et al., 2021)
IL DIBATTITO TRA LETTERATURA E INDUSTRIA NELLE RIVISTE DEGLI ANNI CINQUANTA E SESSANTA DEL NOVECENTO
LA PRESENTE RICERCA INDAGA IL RAPPORTO TRA LETTERATURA E INDUSTRIA NELL’ITALIA DEL SECONDO DOPOGUERRA, ATTRAVERSO L’ANALISI COMPARATIVA DI QUATTRO RIVISTE AZIENDALI, «PIRELLI», «CIVILTÀ DELLE MACCHINE», «COMUNITÀ» E «IL GATTO SELVATICO», CHE TRA GLI ANNI CINQUANTA E SESSANTA SI CONFIGURANO COME LUOGHI PRIVILEGIATI DI DIALOGO TRA CULTURA UMANISTICA E SAPERE TECNICO-SCIENTIFICO. L’OBIETTIVO È RICOSTRUIRE IL CONTRIBUTO ORIGINALE CHE QUESTI HOUSE ORGANS HANNO OFFERTO AL DIBATTITO SULLE «DUE CULTURE», SPOSTANDO L’ATTENZIONE DAL PIANO TEORICO A QUELLO CONCRETO DELLE PRATICHE EDITORIALI, DOVE SCRITTORI, POETI, CRITICI E TECNICI SI CONFRONTANO DIRETTAMENTE CON LA MODERNITÀ INDUSTRIALE.
LA TESI ESAMINA, DA UN LATO, IL CONTESTO STORICO, ECONOMICO E CULTURALE DEL BOOM INDUSTRIALE, DALL’ALTRO LE RIFLESSIONI TEORICHE CHE, DA SNOW A VITTORINI, DA CALVINO A ECO, DA FORTINI A LEVI, HANNO RIDEFINITO IL RAPPORTO TRA SCIENZA, TECNICA E LETTERATURA NELLA CULTURA ITALIANA DEL NOVECENTO. A PARTIRE DA UNA METODOLOGIA FILOLOGICA, INTERDISCIPLINARE E COMPARATIVA, I CONTRIBUTI PUBBLICATI SULLE RIVISTE SONO STATI CATALOGATI E ANALIZZATI SECONDO NUCLEI TEMATICI RICORRENTI, UOMO E MACCHINA, UOMO E FABBRICA, PROGRESSO TECNICO, INDUSTRIA E IMMAGINARIO, COSÌ DA EVIDENZIARE CONVERGENZE, DIVERGENZE E LINEE EVOLUTIVE DEL DISCORSO CULTURALE.
LE FIGURE DI LEONARDO SINISGALLI, ADRIANO OLIVETTI E ATTILIO BERTOLUCCI, ESAMINATE NEI LORO RISPETTIVI RUOLI DIRETTIVI, EMERGONO COME PROTAGONISTI DELLA COSTRUZIONE DI UN NUOVO UMANESIMO INDUSTRIALE, CAPACE DI INTEGRARE SENSIBILITÀ POETICA, RESPONSABILITÀ SOCIALE E RAZIONALITÀ TECNICA. LE RIVISTE DA LORO CURATE SI RIVELANO VERI LABORATORI INTELLETTUALI, IN CUI LA TECNICA NON È CELEBRATA NÉ TEMUTA, MA INTERPRETATA CRITICAMENTE COME COMPONENTE ESSENZIALE DELLA MODERNITÀ.
IL LAVORO DIMOSTRA COME GLI HOUSE ORGANS DELLE GRANDI AZIENDE ITALIANE, SPESSO RELEGATI A STRUMENTI DI COMUNICAZIONE INTERNA, ABBIANO INVECE SVOLTO UN RUOLO CENTRALE NELLA RIDEFINIZIONE DELL’IMMAGINARIO INDUSTRIALE E NELLA FORMAZIONE DI UNA CULTURA DELLA MODERNITÀ. ESSI TESTIMONIANO UN PROCESSO DI PROGRESSIVA IBRIDAZIONE DEI SAPERI, CHE CONDUCE DALLA CONTRAPPOSIZIONE TRA LE DUE CULTURE A UNA VISIONE INTEGRATA DELLA CONOSCENZA, ANTICIPATRICE DI FORME CONTEMPORANEE DI INTERDISCIPLINARITÀ.
LO STUDIO PROPONE COSÌ UNA NUOVA LETTURA DEL DIALOGO TRA LETTERATURA E TECNICA NELL’ITALIA DEL NOVECENTO, MOSTRANDO COME, NELLE PAGINE DELLE RIVISTE AZIENDALI, SI SIA ARTICOLATO UN PROGETTO CULTURALE VOLTO A CONCILIARE PROGRESSO, RESPONSABILITÀ E CONSAPEVOLEZZA CRITICA: UN VERO E PROPRIO UMANESIMO TECNOLOGICO CHE COSTITUISCE UNA DELLE EREDITÀ PIÙ ORIGINALI DELLA MODERNITÀ INDUSTRIALE ITALIANA.THIS RESEARCH EXPLORES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LITERATURE AND INDUSTRY IN POST-WAR ITALY THROUGH A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF FOUR CORPORATE MAGAZINES, «PIRELLI», «CIVILTÀ DELLE MACCHINE», «COMUNITÀ» E «IL GATTO SELVATICO», WHICH, BETWEEN THE 1950S AND 1960S, BECAME PRIVILEGED SPACES FOR DIALOGUE BETWEEN HUMANISTIC CULTURE AND TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE. THE AIM IS TO RECONSTRUCT THE ORIGINAL CONTRIBUTION THESE HOUSE ORGANS OFFERED TO THE DEBATE ON THE “TWO CULTURES,” SHIFTING ATTENTION FROM THE THEORETICAL PLANE TO THE CONCRETE REALM OF EDITORIAL PRACTICES, WHERE WRITERS, POETS, CRITICS, AND ENGINEERS ENGAGED DIRECTLY WITH INDUSTRIAL MODERNITY.
THE THESIS EXAMINES, ON THE ONE HAND, THE HISTORICAL, ECONOMIC, AND CULTURAL CONTEXT OF ITALY’S INDUSTRIAL BOOM, AND ON THE OTHER, THE THEORETICAL REFLECTIONS THAT, RANGING FROM SNOW TO VITTORINI, FROM CALVINO TO ECO, FROM FORTINI TO LEVI, RESHAPED THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND LITERATURE IN TWENTIETH-CENTURY ITALIAN CULTURE. BUILDING ON A PHILOLOGICAL, INTERDISCIPLINARY, AND COMPARATIVE METHODOLOGY, THE CONTRIBUTIONS PUBLISHED IN THE SELECTED MAGAZINES WERE CATALOGUED AND ANALYSED ACCORDING TO RECURRING THEMATIC NUCLEI, MAN AND MACHINE, MAN AND FACTORY, TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS, INDUSTRY AND IMAGINATION, SO AS TO HIGHLIGHT POINTS OF CONVERGENCE, DIVERGENCE, AND EVOLUTION WITHIN THE BROADER CULTURAL DISCOURSE.
THE FIGURES OF LEONARDO SINISGALLI, ADRIANO OLIVETTI, AND ATTILIO BERTOLUCCI, EXAMINED IN THEIR RESPECTIVE EDITORIAL ROLES, EMERGE AS KEY PROTAGONISTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW INDUSTRIAL HUMANISM CAPABLE OF INTEGRATING POETIC SENSIBILITY, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND TECHNICAL RATIONALITY. THE MAGAZINES THEY DIRECTED REVEAL THEMSELVES AS GENUINE INTELLECTUAL LABORATORIES IN WHICH TECHNOLOGY IS NEITHER CELEBRATED UNCRITICALLY NOR FEARED, BUT RATHER INTERPRETED AS AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT OF MODERNITY.
THE STUDY DEMONSTRATES THAT THE HOUSE ORGANS OF MAJOR ITALIAN COMPANIES, OFTEN DISMISSED AS MERE INSTRUMENTS OF INTERNAL COMMUNICATION, ACTUALLY PLAYED A CRUCIAL ROLE IN REDEFINING THE INDUSTRIAL IMAGINARY AND SHAPING A CULTURE OF MODERNITY. THEY BEAR WITNESS TO A PROGRESSIVE HYBRIDISATION OF KNOWLEDGE THAT MOVES BEYOND THE OPPOSITION BETWEEN THE TWO CULTURES TOWARD AN INTEGRATED VISION OF KNOWLEDGE, ANTICIPATING CONTEMPORARY FORMS OF INTERDISCIPLINARITY.
THE THESIS THUS OFFERS A NEW READING OF THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN LITERATURE AND TECHNOLOGY IN TWENTIETH-CENTURY ITALY, SHOWING HOW, WITHIN THE PAGES OF CORPORATE MAGAZINES, A CULTURAL PROJECT WAS ARTICULATED THAT SOUGHT TO RECONCILE PROGRESS, RESPONSIBILITY, AND CRITICAL AWARENESS: A FORM OF TECHNOLOGICAL HUMANISM THAT STANDS AS ONE OF THE MOST ORIGINAL LEGACIES OF ITALY’S INDUSTRIAL MODERNITY

Implantation studies of low-energy positive muons in niobium thin films
Here we study the range of ke V positive muons μ+ implanted in Nb2O5 (x nm)/Nb(y nm)/SiO2(300 nm)/Si [x=3.6nm,3.3nm; y=42.0nm,60.1nm] thin films using low-energy muon spin spectroscopy (LE-μSR). At implantation energies 1.3keV≤E≤23.3keV, we compare the measured diamagnetic μ+ signal fraction fdia. against predictions derived from implantation profile simulations using the TRIM.SP Monte Carlo code. Treating the implanted μ+ as light protons p+, we find that simulations making use of updated stopping cross section data are in good agreement with the LE-μSR measurements, in contrast to parameterizations found in earlier tabulations. Implications for other studies relying on accurate μ+ stopping information are discussed
Volere la libertà. Dialogo, democrazia, educazione in Guido Calogero,
Calogero locates the genesis of historical knowledge – which, for him, coincides with that of dialogue and morality – in the understanding of others’ consciousness. Lacking any methodology other than attunement through understanding, historical understanding is the establishment of dialogue (Calogero, 1954). On this basis, and drawing on a conception of freedom – “not eter-nal but liable to sickness and to health, to death and to rebirth” (Calogero, 2003, p. 40) – as an act of will (Calogero, 2003), it will be argued that the law of dialogue constitutes an inescapable social and pedagogical praxis, not only for the very pos-sibility of democratic education, but also for fostering a relation to history and to memory capable of safeguarding their meaning and their pedagogy
Blockchain barriers in public organizations: A systematic literature review
Blockchain technology has garnered attention for its potential to revolutionize public sector services by enhancing transparency, efficiency, and trust. However, adoption remains hindered by critical organizational and technical barriers, which are underexplored in current literature, particularly from an economic-organizational perspective. This paper systematically reviews recent studies to identify sector-specific challenges, including interoperability issues and a shortage of technical expertise. By addressing these barriers, the findings propose tailored strategies to facilitate effective implementation, offering practical insights for public sector stakeholders and laying a robust foundation for future research
