    Impact of Demand-Side Behavior on Line Switching and Reactive Power Management Considering Reconfiguration and Capacitor Costs

    Altering the flow of power along branch reconfiguration of radial distribution feeders and mitigating the reactive power component through optimal shunt capacitor placement are proven methods for reducing energy losses in distribution systems. However, it is crucial to recognize that variations in load demand can significantly impact the magnitude of these energy losses and reactive power installation costs, potentially influencing the optimal placement of capacitors and the strategy for branch switching. Therefore, accounting for fluctuations in power demand when reconfiguring the network and positioning capacitors is of paramount importance. Nevertheless, incorporating changes in power demand while simultaneously optimizing branch configurations and addressing reactive power in radial feeders can complicate the computational aspects of the problem, leading to increased processing times. Conversely, disregarding the consumption patterns on the demand side can result in inaccurate calculations of distribution losses and related costs. Consequently, this study delves into the influence of demand patterns on the problem of network topology modification and capacitor assignment considering capacitor and switches investment. It aims to determine whether taking into account load variability is merely an option or an indispensable factor in minimizing the cost of energy losses, switching expenses, and reactive power installation budget via the placement of capacitors and altering the topology of the network. The analysis was carried out on multiple distribution grids using a classical optimization means known as a mathematical programming language (AMPL)

    CD38 prognostic role in chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients treated with standard chemotherapy or targeted agents: a monocentric real-life experience

    Introduction: Therapeutic strategies for patients affected by Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) have undergone significant changes over the last decade, shifting from chemoimmunotherapy to targeted therapy. Methods: This retrospective, single-center, real-word study aims to identify candidate prognostic markers in 230 consecutive CLL patients treated with standard chemoimmunotherapies or targeted agents from July 2011 to June 2023. Results: Patients receiving targeted therapy were more likely to have mutated IGHV, while those with a CD38+CD49d+ CLL immunophenotype showed an increased risk of refractoriness and disease recurrence, as demonstrated by multivariate analysis. Conversely, CLL patients with a CD38-CD49d- phenotype received great benefits when treated with targeted agents, whereas advanced age was a negative risk factor for patients treated with standard chemotherapy. Conclusions: In conclusion, CD38 expression emerges as a key prognostic marker in CLL, reinforcing the need to integrate clinical, biological, phenotypic, and molecular factors into treatment decision-making and both standard chemotherapy and targeted regimens remain effective in real-life settings

    High-Risk Genetic Multiple Myeloma: From Molecular Classification to Innovative Treatment with Monoclonal Antibodies and T-Cell Redirecting Therapies

    High-risk genetic multiple myeloma (HRMM) remains a major therapeutic challenge, as patients harboring adverse genetic abnormalities, such as del(17p), TP53 mutations, and biallelic del(1p32), continue to experience poor outcomes despite recent therapeutic advancements. This review explores the evolving definition and molecular features of HRMM, focusing on recent updates in risk stratification and treatment strategies. The new genetic classification proposed at the 2025 EMMA meeting offers improved prognostic accuracy and supports more effective, risk-adapted treatment planning. In transplant-eligible patients, intensified induction regimens, tandem autologous stem cell transplantation, and dual-agent maintenance have shown improved outcomes, particularly when sustained minimal residual disease negativity is achieved. Conversely, in the relapsed or refractory setting, novel agents have demonstrated encouraging activity, although their specific efficacy in HRMM is under investigation. Moreover, treatment paradigms are shifting toward earlier integration of immunotherapy, and therapeutic strategies are individualized based on refined molecular risk profiles and clone dynamics. Therefore, a correct definition of HRMM could help in significantly improving both clinical and therapeutic management of a subgroup of patients with an extremely aggressive disease

    A self-adaptive modified backward forward sweep method: Application to dynamic flow direction changes

    In recent years, distribution networks with the presence of new technologies have faced a significant evolving dynamic that challenges the use of traditional power flow calculations specifically backward-forward sweep (BFS). One of the most important effects of this evolving dynamics of distribution networks is related to the increase in the dynamic flow direction changes of the branches. In other words, there is a considerable gap between the practical application of BFS and its basic characteristics, which makes it impossible for practical application because BFS is not compatible with dynamic flow direction changes. Since BFS does not have complex mathematical and modeling concepts, bridging this gap is a meaningful necessity. Hence based on graph theory and the deep node concept, a self-adaptive modified backward-forward sweep (SAMBFS) is proposed so that BFS will be a practical application method for distribution networks. Finally, the application of SAMBFS for dynamic topology changes, P2P trade, several substations, and harmonic calculations as various concepts of the evolving dynamics of distribution networks are investigated

    Legal reflection on the relationship between food, religion and animal dignity is part of the broad and multifaceted field where food law, the protection of religious freedom and the need to ensure animal welfare converge, calling for a specific delimitation of the analytical path to be taken. The volume, which analyses food pluralism in light of the recognition and protection of the right to food and religious freedom, has a twofold purpose: to identify the dense web of relationships that intertwines food and religion, as well as the peculiarities and role of dietary prescriptions in religious practices; to identify the problematic issues emerging from the comparison with the legal protection of diversity in the management of certain structures in the contemporary public space, with the specific aim of highlighting the thorny question of the possible reconciliation between the protection of religious freedom and the defence of animal welfare in relation to ritual slaughter
