Automatic Classification of Skin Lesions based on Semantic Segmentation
No full textDeep Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) enable advanced methods to predict the skin cancer classes through the automatic analysis of digital dermoscopic images. However, in despite of the good performance provided by the Deep Learning Models, the difficult interpretability of the corresponding results does often not facilitate a massive adoption in clinical practice by dermatologists. To overcome the problem, this paper discloses the adoption of different CNNs as Semantic Segmentation technique able to detect and measure skin lesions atypical criteria according to the well-known diagnostic method 7-Point Check List. The experimental results show that the Artificial Intelligence-based model can suitably manage the classification uncertainty of the CNNs and finally distinguish melanomas from benignant nevi. Diagnostic performance is very promising towards a decision-supporting system to be used by a dermatologist with low experience during clinical practice
Exploring pre-school sport and physical activity in China. A critical perspective on parents and under-fives
No full textThis chapter discusses sport and physical activity for children under the age of five in China, particularly the socio-cultural factors shaping parental decision-making. It further examines the intersection of parents’ cultural capital and their choices regarding their children’s participation in sports, demonstrating how these decisions are deeply influenced by social norms, economic status, and cultural expectations. In recent years, the promotion of physical activity in China has increased impacting the rapid expansion of the private pre-school sports sector creating an overwhelming landscape for parents, who must contend with various external pressures such as media advertising, societal trends, and public opinion. Despite the expansion of the market, there is a lack of research on the socio-cultural impacts of these activities. This chapter investigates the social and cultural context that shapes parental decisions regarding preschool children’s sports and physical activity in China. La contribución de las ciencias sociales a la investigación sobre la justicia social en América Latina
No full textEl interés teórico de Maddaloni por el surgimiento y devenir del tratamiento sociológico de la justicia social y la sociología de la violencia, así como por la historia de la sociología en América Latina y cuestiones sobre el desarrollo de estos países, determina sus aportaciones al objetivo del volumen en “La contribución de las ciencias sociales a la investigación sobre la justicia social en América Latina”. Con acertada referencia y dis-cusión de bibliografía latino y euronoramericana, muestra la relevancia sociológica contemporánea de la cuestión de la justicia social en aspectos macro, tales como las condiciones estructurales de los ideales de justicia social y la incidencia de éstos en los dise-ños institucionales y la redistribución de los recursos, así como en el aspecto micro del estudio de los mecanismos de formación de consenso y de la formación de conciencia social de la experiencia de la injusticia. Su estudio sociológico, que incluye una mirada a la historia de la colonialidad en Nuestra América, resulta esperan-zador por su análisis de la crisis de la hegemonía de esta coloniali-dad racista y patriarcal y de la consiguiente aparición de “un mar-gen de maniobra” para el establecimiento de la justicia social en América Latina
A Scalable L‐α‐Glycerophosphorylcholine Synthesis through the Automatic pH‐Controlled (R)‐Glycidol Ring Opening with Phosphorylcholine
No full textThe investigation of epoxide ring opening of (R)-glycidol with phosphorylcholine in water leads to the development of an effective synthesis of L-α-glycerophosphorylcholine (L-α-GPC), a commercially available drug. The precise control of reaction pH with an automatic titrator proves to be crucial for achieving conversions of up to 98% and limiting byproduct formation. Additionally, an effective method for the synthesis of phosphocholine as inner salt is reported for the first time, which is also essential for achieving the described results
La centralità della leadership distribuita dei leader intermedi per l'inclusione piena
No full textNella scuola, intesa come sistema organizzativo complesso, hanno un ruolo centrale le figure di sistema, deputate alla gestione organizzativa e didattica dell’istituzione; esse, in qualità di mediatori tra il dirigente, i colleghi e le famiglie, adottando un modello di leadership distribuita orientato ai valori dell’equità e dell’accessibilità, potrebbero promuovere la diffusione e l’implementazione di metodologie didattiche efficaci e inclusive, in piena coerenza con i principi dell’Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Come emerge in letteratura, esisterebbe una stretta relazione tra la leadership distribuita e inclusiva di tali professionisti e un miglioramento degli apprendimenti di tutte le studentesse e di tutti gli studenti. Partendo da tali riflessioni, il presente contributo intende illustrare i primi risultati di una ricerca svoltasi in alcune scuole della regione Campania, per esplorare le opinioni dei docenti sul grado di leadership inclusiva agita dalle figure di sistemaIn schools, understood as complex organizational systems, middle leaders play a central role in managing both the organizational and didactic aspects of the institution. Acting as mediators between the principal, colleagues, and families, these professionals—by adopting a model of distributed leadership based on the values of equity and accessibility—can foster the dissemination and implementation of effective inclusive teaching methodologies, fully aligned with the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). As highlighted in the literature, there appears to be a strong relationship between the distributed and inclusive leadership of these professionals and the improvement of student learning outcomes. Based on these reflections, this contribution aims to present the initial results of a study conducted in several schools in the Campania Region, exploring teachers' perceptions of the degree of inclusive leadership exercised by middle leaders
