Lorand Gaspar en allemand: traces et traductions
Lorand Gaspar was a lifelong mediator between cultures, mastering several languages and translating German literary works into French. Nevertheless, his own poems are relatively unknown in German-speaking countries, with only one major translation, Erde aller Erde (2005) by Joachim Sartorius. This article examines Gaspar’s presence in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, focusing on the limited translations and available academic studies. It provides a critical analysis of the inaccuracies in Thomas Augais’ essay and the mixed reception of Erde aller Erde in the German-language press. The study also examines Gaspar’s poetry reading at the Lyrik Kabinett in Munich in 2005 and sheds light on his personal connection to the German language. Finally, the article explores the potential of artificial intelligence as a tool for translating poetry, illustrated by a new translation of a Gaspar poem assisted by AI. This innovative approach could help to bridge the reception gap for foreign poets and make their works accessible to a wider audience

Nickel tolerance and phytoremediation potential of the aquatic plant Lemna minuta and the cyanobacterium Trichormus variabilis in monoculture and consortium
One of the main threats to aquatic conservation is heavy metal pollution, with nickel (Ni) among the most significant contaminants. The Ni tolerance and remediation potential of Lemna minuta (vascular plant) and Trichormus variabilis (cyanobacterium) in contaminated water were investigated. The phytotoxic effects of nickel sulfate (NiSO4·7 H2O; 6.47 mg/L) on these two species, were assessed after 7- and 14-days exposure by measuring morphological changes, growth (fresh weight) and key physiological parameters (chlorophyll, malondialdehyde, protein content and catalase activity). The ability of L. minuta and T. variabilis to remove Ni was compared in both monoculture (single species) and consortium (mixed species) by measuring the reduction in Ni concentration in the culture medium. Nickel exposure induced phytotoxic effects in both species, as shown by decreases in fresh weight, chlorophyll and protein content, and increases in malondialdehyde content and catalase activity. These effects were more pronounced in monocultures, particularly in T. variabilis, compared to consortia. Lemna minuta exhibited good Ni tolerance and remediation capacity, removing 75 % and 86 % of the metal from the solution after 7 and 14 days, respectively. Trichormus variabilis removed 36 % and 27 % of the Ni after the same exposure time. Consortia exhibited high Ni removal, reaching 80 % and 90 % after 7 and 14 days, but this was not statistically different to L. minuta monocultures. These results demonstrate the potential of L. minuta in the remediation of Ni-contaminated waters and suggest that consortia might enhance the tolerance and viability of both species under Ni-stress
Banff designs: difference methods for coloring incidence graphs
We present some results on the harmonious colorings of the Levi graph of a 2-design, focusing on Steiner 2-designs. It is easily seen that the harmonious chromatic number of such a Levi graph is at least the number of points of the design: we study and construct Banff designs, that is, designs such that this lower bound is attained
The Silences of the Popes in War: Benedict XV and Belgium, Pius XII and Poland
When we talk about the Pope's "silences," we immediately think of Pius XII and the extermination of the Jews during the Second World War. But "silences," in the history of the Papacy, have a history. An important precedent is that of Benedict XV during the First World War. At that juncture, the Papacy was confronted for the first time with a global conflagration that divided Catholics between the two warring sides. Benedict XV, who refused to be drawn into war propaganda and called for peace, was accused of remaining "silence" by both sides. These dynamics are evident with respect to the question of the German invasion of Belgium, which was considered a emblematic event in which the policy of papal impartiality was interpreted as condescension towards German abuses. When Germany attacked Poland on September 1, 1939, Pius XII, who had become Pope a few months earlier, reaffirmed the "doctrine of impartiality," drawing on the experience of Benedict XV, which he himself had personally experienced alongside the former pontiff. Pius XII applied the "doctrine of impartiality" first to the Polish question, a Catholic nation par excellence in Eastern Europe, invaded by Protestant Germans and Orthodox Russians, which awaited a desperate word from Rome, a word that never came. Poland was Pius XII's Belgium. In this context, reminiscent of the events of the First World War, the persecution and extermination of the Jews broke the moral equidistance between the contenders that had characterized the previous war, severely testing the "doctrine of impartiality," already eroded by the Nazi crimes against the Polish nation. We therefore hope for a historicization of the silences for a deeper understanding of the history of the Church in the contemporary age and up to the present day
