Sustainability‐Oriented Businesses and Earnings Management. What Is the True Relationship? Evidence From Italian Benefit Corporations
This study examines how benefit corporations (BCs)—a type of sustainability- oriented hybrid business dedicated to corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals—are associated with earnings management (EM). Two theoretical perspectives—long- term strategy and managerial opportunism—shape the hypotheses on the association between BC adoption and EM practices. An empirical analysis is conducted on a panel dataset of 2449 Italian firms (354 BCs and 2095 non- BCs) from 2014 to 2021. Using Stubben's (2010) conditional earnings model and propensity score matching, the findings suggest that adopting the BC model is linked to a higher likelihood of managerial engagement in EM. Although the BC model emphasizes transparency and accountability, it might unintentionally enable opportunistic behavior, calling into question the assumption that CSR- oriented business
models inherently limit financial manipulation. These findings shed light on the impact of legal frameworks for hybrid organizations like BCs on corporate behavior, offering valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners working to foster ethical business practices

Climate Change and Sports: A Multidimensional Relationship. Challenges, Adaptation, and Sustainability
Climate change is a global crisis that affects virtually all aspects of life. In recent years, it has become increasingly evident that the world of sports is not immune to its impacts. The consequences of climate change for sports are not yet clear, and the effects of the environment on sports are still poorly investigated. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and changing playing conditions are posing challenges for athletes, spectators, and organizers alike. Sport influences both culture and society, as well as the economy of individual countries through demonstrations and events (Olympics). This paper investigates into the multifaceted relationship between climate change and sports. It explores the various challenges and disruptions that climate change presents to the sports industry and how athletes, organizations, and fans are being forced to adapt. It goes into the intersection of climate change and sports, highlighting how it affects various aspects of the sporting world, from event scheduling and infrastructure design to athletes' health and performance. Moreover, it emphasizes the need for sustainable practices and adaptation strategies within the sports industry to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote climate-resilient sporting events
P.11 - Detection of viral RNA of zoonotic foodborne pathogens in raw milk samples collected from small ruminants
Background: Acute gastroenteritis cases, caused by emerging and re-emerging viral zoonotic foodborne pathogens, have widely increased in many developed and incoming countries in the world. More in detail, astrovirus (AstV), hepatitis A virus (HAV), hepatitis E virus (HEV), norovirus genogroups I and II (NoV-GI and NoV-GII), and rotavirus (RotV) can infect consumers by the ingestion of raw and contaminated food matrices as raw milk.
Objective: Aims of this study are to apply quantitative and qualitative biomolecular methods to discover AstV, HAV, HEV, NoV-GI, NoV-GII, and RotV RNA regions in raw milk samples collected from small ruminants.
Materials and Methods: A total of 628 small ruminants including sheep (n=245) and goats (n=383), farmed in Central Italy, were included in this study. From each animal, aliquots of raw milk (50 mL) were collected during their lactation peaks. The extracted RNA was successively used for real time RT-qPCR and nested RT-PCR assays.
Results: Results showed that 12.74% of the screened milk samples harbored the RNA of at least one of the considered viral pathogens. More in detail, 6.68% were positive to HEV, 5.57% to AstV, and 4.14% to NoV-GI. Based on a comparative perspective, goats detected more viral RNA than ovine (p-value= <0.001).
Discussion and Conclusion: The discovered AstV, HEV, and NoV-GI RNA regions represent the first harborings and co-harborings in Italy. Concerning HEV, the observed prevalence was higher than the 2.80% described in Czech Republic, and lower than 18.50% in Turkey. These findings can be scientifically justified by different variables e.g., naked viruses’ ultrastructural characteristics (high environmental resistance), cross-species infections, farming methods and graze area sharing with wild target hosts provide the ideal conditions for viral persistence.
Perspectives: Analysing raw milk, collected from small ruminants, can be useful for public health authorities and farmers contributing to guarantee safe foodstuffs for consumers

Immune-Informed 3D Electrospun Scaffolds Functionalized with Amniotic Epithelial Stem Cell-secretome: A Cell-Free Immunomodulatory Strategy for Tendon Regeneration
Tendon healing remains a clinical challenge, often due to the inability to properly modulate inflammation and immune responses following injury. Immune-informed scaffold approaches represent promising solutions by modulating these crucial responses [1]. Thus, this study proposes a novel immuno-informed strategy that combines 3D tendon biomimetic poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) scaffolds [2] with conditioned media enriched in immunomodulatory factors (CMINF) derived from amniotic epithelial cells, known for their strong paracrine and immunomodulatory activity [3]. However, the effective delivery and retention of secretome-derived molecules at injury sites remain critical limitations. To address this, three scaffold functionalization strategies: physical adsorption, acid (HCl), and alkaline (NaOH) pre-treatments, were evaluated. NaOH treatment significantly enhanced protein adsorption (~53%) and enabled a more sustained release of bioactive molecules, including Amphiregulin (AREG), a molecule implicated in tissue repair and M2 macrophage polarization [4]. In vitro, CMINF-functionalized scaffolds markedly inhibited peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) proliferation and suppressed NFAT activation in Jurkat T cells over a 7-day period. These scaffolds also modulated macrophage polarization toward an anti-inflammatory M2-dominant phenotype (CD206+) on scaffold-adherent cells, with a specific shift toward the M2b (CD86+CD80−) subpopulation. Altogether, these findings validate NaOH-pretreated 3D tendon biomitetic scaffolds as potent immune-modulatory platforms and establish a robust foundation for the development of advanced, cell-free immunoengineering strategies to orchestrate inflammation resolution and support tendon tissue regeneration.
