Lo sport è un fenomeno sociale potente che crea legami e significati condivisi, trascendendo le barriere linguistiche e generando emozioni intense. Permette di sospendere la quotidianità ("Erlebnis") per sperimentare nuove possibilità all'interno di regole definite, come sottolineato da Huizinga.
Il testo evidenzia come autori classici come Simmel (con le sue forme associative), Durkheim (e il ruolo della ritualità) ed Elias (con l'affresco figurazionale) abbiano contribuito a comprendere la dimensione sociale dello sport.
Fin da subito, lo sport è stato oggetto di analisi critica per il suo impatto sulla costruzione del tempo sociale di individui, gruppi e stati. Ortega Y Gassett e Gramsci sono citati come esempi di pensatori che hanno esplorato criticamente il legame tra sport e strutture sociali e politiche.
Pur essendo presenti autori classici come Norbert Elias, Antonio Gramsci o Geoge Simmel, molti altri importanti studiosi della sociologia dello sport (Weber, Veblen, Huizinga, Dumazedier, Guttmann, Bourdieu e altri) sono stati esclusi a causa di limiti editoriali, sottolineando una parziale rappresentazione della storia del pensiero sociologico nello sport

Comparison Between Strain and 2D Shear Wave Elastography of Testes in Healthy Dogs
Sonoelastography is a rapid and non-invasive ultrasound-based technique to assess tissue elasticity. Interest in this technique’s application in veterinary medicine is progressively increasing, with preliminary reports also available to assess canine testicular parenchyma abnormalities. Since elastographic techniques are different and it is of paramount importance to standardize procedures, this work aimed to compare two different elastographic techniques, SE and 2D SWE, on the same testes and compare the data with the current literature. Thirty healthy canine testes were included, and complete B-mode, color and power Doppler examinations were performed on each one. SE was performed qualitatively through an elastogram evaluation and semiquantitatively comparing the parenchyma with peripheral skin. 2D SWE was performed and m/s measurements were taken. Each measurement was collected in the cranial, middle and caudal portions, considering the sections above and below the mediastinum separately. The healthy testes appeared to be intermediate in stiffness with differences in the various portions for SE and expressed a mean value from 1.3 m/s to 1.4 m/s for 2D SWE, consistent with the previous literature. Considering the technical specifics of the software for the two elastography methods, both of them are valuable in assessing canine testis stiffness and are potentially clinically appliable
D-chiro-inositol effectively counteracts endometriosis in a mouse model
BackgroundEndometriosis, a common condition affecting 5-10% of women of reproductive age, is the growth of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus, leading to pain and infertility. Current treatments, such as surgery and hormonal therapy, offer limited long-term benefits. This study investigated the potential of D-chiro inositol (DCI), a natural compound that influences ovarian steroidogenesis, to treat endometriosis and compared its efficacy with a progestin drug such as Dienogest (DG).MethodsWe established a non-surgical mouse model of endometriosis in CD1 mice. Uterine horns were removed from donor mice, cut into fragments and inoculated in recipient mice by intraperitoneal injection. Endometriosis progression was assessed at 15, 21 and 28 days after transplantation, with the 28-day window being the most effective. The mice were then randomly assigned to four experimental groups, which received for 28 days: water (EMS); DCI 0.4 mg/die (DCI); DCI 0.2 mg/die and Dienogest 0.33 ng/die (DCI + DG); DG 0.67 ng/die (DG). At the end of the treatments, endometriotic lesions, ovaries and circulating estradiol levels were analyzed.ResultsThe results showed that treatment with DCI, both alone and in combination with DG, significantly reduced the number, size and vascularization of endometriotic lesions compared to the EMS control group. Histological analysis confirmed a decrease in endometriotic foci across all treatment groups, with the most pronounced effects in the DCI group. To investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms, we found that DCI led to a significant reduction in the expression of Sirt1 and an increase in E-Cadherin, indicating a reduction in EMT transition relevant for lesion development. In addition, DCI decreased cell proliferation and,blood vessel formation, as evaluated by PCNA and CD34, respectively. Futhermore, in the ovary, DCI treatment downregulated the expression of aromatase (Cyp19a1), the enzyme critical for estrogen biosynthesis, and increased the number of primordial to antral follicles, suggesting a beneficial effect on ovarian folliculogenesis.ConclusionsBy modulating proliferation, EMT transition and aromatase activity, DCI emerges as a promising compound for endometriosis treatment

Conceiving Brexit as an ongoing cultural process rather than a concluded political event, the volume brings together essays that examine how contemporary fiction, theatre, satire, dystopia, and performance have engaged with the referendum and its aftermath. The contributions explore the ways in which Brexit has reshaped narratives of national identity, sovereignty, borders, and belonging, as well as its impact on social relations, collective memory, and political imagination.
The volume addresses a wide range of textual forms and genres, including the Brexit novel, dystopian and speculative fiction, satire, and post-referendum theatre. Particular attention is given to representations of borders and exclusion, the reactivation of imperial and nationalist imaginaries, and the cultural implications of Brexit for Northern Ireland and the Irish border. Several essays focus on the ethical and affective dimensions of Brexit narratives, examining how literary and theatrical works register fragmentation, loss, resistance, and the possibility of alternative futures. Collectively, the contributions highlight the central role of writers, playwrights, and artists in documenting, interpreting, and contesting the cultural meanings of Brexit in a still-evolving political landscape
Comparison between Metschnikowia pulcherrima and Torulaspora delbrueckii used in sequential wine fermentations with Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Introduction The interest toward the use of non-Saccharomyces yeasts in the winemaking process has been increasing because it has been demonstrated that they can contribute positively to the quality of wines; however, there is a gap in the literature on holistic approaches showing the effective contribution of non-Saccharomyces yeasts in sequential fermentations.Methods and results Two commercial strains of Metschnikowia pulcherrima (Mp) and Torulaspora delbrueckii (Td) were used in sequential fermentations with Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Sc). The fermentations were monitored by evaluating cell viable counts, ethanol, glycerol, acids, amino acids, phenols, total antioxidant activity, total polysaccharides, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The results for amino acids pointed out after 2 days a lower utilization of amino acids by Sc per million of cells than Mp and Td; moreover, yeasts had a different preference hit. There were no significant differences in the final ethanol and glycerol content; however, the sequential fermentation Mp/Sc led to a significant decrease in malic acid levels, while the Td/Sc sequential fermentation resulted in a significantly lower acetic acid levels (13 mg/L vs 95-102 mg/L) and a higher phenol reduction. Finally, VOCs analysis showed differences in some compounds both after 2 days or at the end of fermentation (esters, and ketones, among others). Finally, both sequential fermentations resulted in a higher amount of polysaccharides.Conclusion The findings of this research provide a basis for ensuring better management of sequential wine fermentation, and a possible approach for trials and data management
Cannabinoid Receptors in the Horse Lateral Nucleus of the Amygdala: A Potential Target for Ameliorating Pain Perception, Stress and Anxiety in Horses
The amygdala is composed of several nuclei, including the lateral nucleus which is the main receiving area for the input from cortical and subcortical brain regions. It mediates fear, anxiety, stress, and pain across species. Evidence suggests that the endocannabinoid system may be a promising target for modulating these processes. Cannabinoid and cannabinoid-related receptors have been identified in the amygdala of rodents, carnivores, and humans, but not in horses. This study aimed to investigate the gene expression of cannabinoid receptors 1 (CB1R) and 2 (CB2R), transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) within the lateral nucleus of six equine amygdalae collected post mortem from an abattoir using quantitative real-time PCR, cellular distribution, and immunofluorescence. mRNA expression of CB1R and CB2R, but not TRPV1 or PPARγ, was detected. The percentage of immunoreactivity (IR) was calculated using ImageJ software. Cannabinoid receptor 1 immunoreactivity was absent in the somata but was strongly detected in the surrounding neuropil and varicosities and CB2R-IR was observed in the varicosities; TRPV1-IR showed moderate expression in the cytoplasm of somata and processes, while PPARγ-IR was weak-to-moderate in the neuronal nuclei. These findings demonstrate endocannabinoid system components in the equine amygdala and may support future studies on Cannabis spp. molecules acting on these receptors
