Bridging ACO-Based Drone Logistics and Computing Continuum for Enhanced Smart City Applications
In the context of evolving Smart Cities, the integration of drone technology and distributed computing paradigms presents significant potential for enhancing urban infrastructure and services. This paper proposes a comprehensive approach to optimizing urban delivery logistics through a cloud-based model that employs Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) for planning and Model Predictive Control (MPC) for trajectory tracking within a broader Computing Continuum framework. The proposed system addresses the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) by considering both drone capacity constraints and autonomy, using the ACO-based algorithm to efficiently assign delivery destinations while minimizing travel distances. Collision-free paths are computed by using a Visibility Graph (VG) based approach, and MPC controllers enable drones to adapt to dynamic obstacles in real time. Additionally, this work explores how clusters of drones can be deployed as edge devices within the Computing Continuum, seamlessly integrating with IoT sensors and fog computing infrastructure to support various urban applications, such as traffic management, crowd monitoring, and infrastructure inspections. This dual-architecture approach, combining the optimization capabilities of ACO with the flexible, distributed nature of the Computing Continuum, allows for scalable and efficient urban drone deployment. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed model in enhancing delivery efficiency and collision avoidance while demonstrating the potential of integrating drone technology into Smart City environments for improved data collection and real-time response
Smart sustainable solutions for improving coffee supply chain waste efficiency, traceability and introduction of key indicators for sustainability assessment
With millions of tons of coffee husks and due to inadequate supply chain procedures, spent coffee ground
and damaged beans thrown away each year. While obstructing possible economic prospects, inadequate waste
traceability, uneven regulatory enforcement, and limited valorization attempts further worsen environmental
concerns. This paper examines the urgent need to improve the effectiveness and transparency of waste management,
showing how supply chain processes can be improved to drastically cut waste and support sustainability goals. This
study finds significant flaws in current supply chain governance and waste management strategies through a
methodical analysis of policy reports, academic literature, and secondary data. The findings bring to light insufficient
traceability mechanisms all along the chain, which can lead to struggles in resource recovery and difficulties in
identifying where and why waste occurs. This issue may engender excessive losses at various stages and quality
degradation. All these challenges can be mitigated through improved sustainable operational practices. The
sustainability assessment of the coffee supply chain and its waste management remains a long, complex process. A
major contribution of this study is the introduction of sustainability indicators, along with their variables and subvariables, to systematically evaluate the environmental, economic, and social dimensions of coffee supply chain and
its waste management. Results put forward a structured framework for evaluating sustainability and revealing critical
intervention points for implementing digital traceability solutions, such as blockchain technologies and IoT-based
monitoring systems. These technologies can significantly enhance waste tracking, optimize resource utilization, and
reinforce compliance with national and international sustainability standards. By promoting a comprehensive
approach that mixes policy reforms, innovative technologies, and upgraded stakeholder collaboration, this study
suggests practical strategies for minimizing waste and optimizing the overall coffee supply chain efficiency.
Strengthening traceability will be crucial in steering the coffee industry toward a more sustainable, resilient, and
circular economic model
Other Vascular Emergencies
In this chapter, we review the other non-traumatic vascular emergencies of the retroperitoneum region, including ilio-psoas hematoma and inferior vena cava (IVC) thrombosis. Ilio-psoas hematoma represents a rare condition with a very subtle symptomatology; an early and careful recognition of this pathological condition is only allowed with the aid of CT scanning. IVC thrombosis may be congenital or acquired; the recognition of this pathological condition is important for the purposes of correct therapeutic planning. A final overview of the potential Interventional Radiology role in the treatment of these two pathologic conditions was conducted with a comparison of the benefit of endovascular treatment compared to open surgery
Kateb Yacine en Italie: réception de son oeuvre entre traductions et aspects éditoriaux
Our study focuses on the reception and Italian translation
of Kateb Yacine’s French-language texts. We have found that this
revolutionary author was translated into Italian at a very late stage, and
only partially, and solely from the French language. His work has
received very little critical attention, despite the enthusiasm with which
two Italian publishing houses and the three translators embarked on the
initiative of making him known to the Italian public. In fact, the Italian
versions were commissioned by two Milanese publishing houses, conscious
of the fact that they were proposing something new in the Italian
publishing landscape, and keen to present the Algerian author and his
work in a meticulously crafted peritextual apparatus. The translators’
competence and knowledge of the author and his literary and cultural
context are reflected in an approach to the texts that succeeds in
rendering the writing style of the Katebian texts, which leaves one
wondering why these translations have not received much attention and
prompting one to look for reasons other than their quality.
Our contribution, therefore, intends to analyse two translations
by looking at their paratexts, which illustrate the “mediating”
character between two cultures
Encouraging user-generated content to engage travellers in rural tourism of developing countries
In the contemporary digital era, User-Generated Content (UGC) on social media platforms exerts a significant influence on travellers’ decision-making. By employing the gratification theory, this study examines how access and interactivity, which precede UGCs, affect the decision to travel in rural areas of developing countries. Furthermore, a novel UGC model is proposed using structural equation modelling (SEM) based on data from surveying 643 tourists in Sarawak, Malaysia. The model of UGCs in rural tourism is developed and tested within the context of a developing country characterised by an individualistic culture. This study aims to provide managers in the tourism and hospitality sectors with a comprehensive understanding of the UGCs factors determining tourists’ cognitive and affective gratifications and travel decisions. The findings offer multidisciplinary perspectives on socio-psychology models’ suitability for UGCs in rural tourism and hospitality in developing countries
