    The Effect of Personal Innovativeness on Digital Therapeutics Acceptance: An Italian Empirical Study

    Digital transformation is revolutionizing various sectors, including healthcare, by integrating digital technologies such as AI, IoT, and cloud computing in products and processes. This chapter is focused on a new digital health solution, “Digital Therapeutics”: a software implemented in different products, with the aim of providing medical interventions with proven therapeutic benefits. In particular, the goal of this chapter is to understand the intention to use “Digital Therapeutics” among Italians exploring the role of a variable defined “personal innovativeness” on it. Italian Government does not permit to prescribe and pay back the use of Digital Therapeutics, yet. The moderating effects of Digital Self-Efficacy and Health Belief are also investigated to understand if there is a possibility to increase the level of intention to use, investing in those variables. The authors, investigating the Italians’ intentional behavior through the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, expect that personal innovativeness positively influences the intention to use and that this correlation is moderated by Digital Self-Efficacy and Health Belief. Data will be collected through a questionnaire and analyzed through the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method. The findings are expected to extend the literature on innovation management and technology acceptance, also providing suggestions to Italian policy-makers and decision-makers of the healthcare system

    L’emergenza sanitaria che ha colpito il mondo intero nel 2019 ha prodotto impatti severi nei confronti dell’economia turistica, determinando tra l’altro una profonda trasformazione del raggio di destinazione e della durata degli spostamenti. I primi segnali di una ripresa del settore sono provenuti proprio da spostamenti verso località meno affollate caratterizzate da un livello di attrattiva ambientale elevato. Tale innovativa tipologia del flusso turistico è stata generalmente definita col termine di “turismo di prossimità”. Di questa nuova forma di fruizione turistica si sono avvantaggiati in particolar modo i piccoli borghi e le località estranee al movimento di massa, nei cui confronti si pone il problema di impedirne il coinvolgimento nei circuiti più frequentarti per numero di visitatori. Ne consegue l’esigenza di attuare speciali politiche in grado di incidere opportunamente nella promozione e salvaguardia degli originari attributi di sostenibilità. In Campania, alcuni di questi borghi, sono distribuiti nell’entroterra di aree geografiche periferiche rispetto ai principali circuiti relazionali, quali il comprensorio del Parco nazionale del Cilento, gli insediamenti delle Valli interne tra il Casertano e il Beneventano, i siti di media collina a ridosso del preappennino campano e numerose altre località minori esterne al flusso turistico predominante. Il circuito cilentano, in particolare, ha rappresentato un ambito caratterizzato da significativa capacità attrattiva, in quanto a breve distanza dalla fascia costiera salernitana nel cui ambito si susseguono lungo l’ampio tratto compreso tra la Piana del Sele e il versante occidentale del Golfo di Policastro. Partendo dall’insieme delle considerazioni che evidenziano l’intreccio tra innovative forme di fruizione del territorio ed esigenza di preservarne le qualità ambientali, il contributo si sofferma sulla condizione di crescente sviluppo della domanda turistica che investe principali località della regione, anche nei confronti della domanda estera. Ipotizzandone una funzione di possibile irradiamento di specifici sub-flussi verso innovative destinazioni di “prossimità”, se ne discutono le relative opportunità nei confronti del Comprensorio cilentano. Ragionando delle possibili interazioni nei confronti delle concentrazioni turistiche presenti in Campania (nazionali e straniere), il contributo affrontando l’argomento dell’attuale configurazione turistica del Cilento, pone attenzione al fenomeno della accessibilità, con particolare considerazione per il vincolo infrastrutturale che ne limita la fruibilità, per sostenere come le attuali carenze troverebbero una valido sostegno attraverso l’implementazione di un’efficace sistema di vie marittime, non solo in funzione di ampliamento del raggio della “prossimità”, ma anche in una prospettiva virtuosa di sostenibilità ambientale

    ESG incidents and corporate green bond market reaction

    This paper examines how the secondary market for corporate green bonds reacts to the announcement of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) incidents. We compare the cumulative abnormal returns (CARs) of green bonds with those of similar conventional bonds issued by the same firm, using a large international sample covering the period 2013–2022. Our results indicate that the performance of both green and conventional bonds declines after an ESG incident, but the decline is more pronounced for conventional bonds. We attribute this finding to the cost-effectiveness motive driving investors’ response to the ESG incident, as we find that a) there is no green premium (at issuance) in our sample, and b) green bonds are, on average, less liquid than conventional bonds, making the latter easier to sell due to lower transaction costs. Consistent with this argument, we observe opposite findings − namely, no significant performance differences and conventional bonds outperforming green bonds after the ESG incident − only in cases where green bonds exhibit higher liquidity, such as those issued by European firms or those compliant with the Climate Bond Initiative (CBI) standards

    Integrating IoT and circular economy in Textile supply chains: A closed-loop model for sustainable production using recycled PET and spent coffee grounds

    The global textile industry is one of the most polluting and resource-intensive sectors, demanding urgent adoption of sustainable practices. To address this challenge the study proposes a closed-loop circular model for transforming textile supply chains by integrating advanced digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and value stream mapping, with sustainable material practices. Specifically, the study explores the utilization of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and spent coffee grounds (SCG) in textile production to reduce reliance on virgin materials, decrease environmental impacts, and improve resource efficiency. A comprehensive methodological framework, including IoT-enabled real-time monitoring and LCA-based environmental assessments, was implemented in a case study conducted at a textile plant in Pakistan. Key findings include a 21.43 % reduction in lead time, a 30 % decrease in material waste, and a 25 % improvement in cycle time across production processes. Environmental benefits encompass significant reductions in carbon emissions (from 8000 to 7500 tons of CO2), water consumption (from 12,000 to 10,000 m3), and energy use (from 55,000 to 50,000 kWh). The integration of IoT sensors, circular economy principles, and digital visualization dashboards facilitated real-time tracking and optimization of waste and resource management. These outcomes highlight the potential of this approach to promote circular economy practices and align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focused on responsible consumption, climate action, and technological innovation

    Nella società italiana, da diversi decenni, assistiamo all’incedere di una crisi del sistema economico e socio-culturale che, malgrado il costante riferimento che i decisori politici esprimono in direzione di filosofie inclusive, egualitarie, democratiche, sta difatti cristallizzando paradossalmente le disuguaglianze sociali e le discriminazioni. I luoghi istituzionali nei quali la società dovrebbe garantire integrazione, solidarietà, reciprocità, come ad esempio la scuola, o anche i contesti informali della condivisione sociale, sembrerebbero esprimersi solo superficialmente in tale direzione, determinando invece, tacitamente ed ipocritamente, dinamiche di esclusione. Le teorie circa la riproduzione delle gerarchie socioculturali, maturate nella seconda meta del ‘900, grazie a pensatori e a sociologi dell’educazione di derivazione marxista come Althusser o Bourdieu, sembrerebbero tornare ad essere, in tal senso, drammaticamente attuali: le frange di popolazione che rientrano nella sfera della marginalità sono proprio quelle che, per ragioni connesse alle loro condizioni di partenza economica e sociale, vedono restringersi le proprie possibilità di emancipazione e di piena integrazione. All’interno di queste frange, in particolare, i soggetti afflitti da disabilità appaiono l’anello ancor più debole della catena, poiché allo stigma della provenienza socio-economica si somma quello della “diversa abilità”. Il presente contributo, a partire dalla constatazione che le condizioni di iniquità nella nostra società permangono e si accentuano, a prescindere dalle altisonanti dichiarazioni della politica, intende mettere in luce la centralità che la formazione culturale e professionale degli educatori socio-pedagogici assume, sia nella costruzione di competenze per l’inclusione, sia come viatico di una reale rifondazione in senso democratico della società che possa partire “dal basso”; una rifondazione “centrata sulla persona” che parte dalle persone, nella proposta di interventi di cura in chiave fenomenologica

    A light dust shield, including aerogel, for DISC instrument on board ESA's Comet Interceptor mission: numerical simulations and Ballistic Limit Equation

    The Dust Impact Sensor and Counter (DISC), part of the payload of Comet Interceptor mission, will determine the coma dust features of the mission target comet. DISC sensing plate will be exposed to cometary dust hypervelocity impacts (HVI), because of the high flyby speed (10– 60 km/s) foreseen for the space probe. For this measurement configuration, an efficient dust shield is mandatory, to protect the electronics of the detector and the housing S/C. Aiming at withstanding the predicted HVI without affecting DISC measurements and significantly increasing the payload mass, we designed a light aerogel-stuffed Whipple shield. In this work, we present an analysis of the dust-shield performances by computing the related Ballistic Limit Equations (BLEs) with the support of laboratory tests and numerical simulations. Our results reveal that the DISC dust shield exhibits resilience against particles up to 7 mm in size impacting DISC at 20 km/s—resulting in a momentum 100 times larger than impact predicted during the Comet Interceptor flyby. In addition, we find that the DISC dust shield withstands, for fixed impact velocity, critical particle diameters about four times larger than those stopped by a classic Whipple shield, with a Bumper and Rear wall configuration of equal areal density

    Transformers-based least square Monte Carlo for solvency calculation in life insurance

    The Solvency Capital Requirement (SCR), mandated by Solvency II, represents the capital insurers must hold to ensure solvency, calculated as the Value-at-Risk of the Net Asset Value at a 99.5% confidence level over a one-year period. While Nested Monte Carlo simulations are the gold standard for SCR calculation, they are highly resource-intensive. The Least Squares Monte Carlo (LSMC) method provides a more efficient alternative but faces challenges with high-dimensional data due to the curse of dimensionality. We introduce a novel extension of LSMC, incorporating advanced deep learning models, specifically Transformer models, which enhance traditional machine learning methods. This approach significantly improves the accuracy of approximating the complex relationship between insurance liabilities and risk factors, leading to a more accurate SCR calculation. Our extensive experiments on two insurance portfolios demonstrate the effectiveness of this transformer-based LSMC approach. Additionally, we show that Shapley values can be applied to achieve model explainability, which is crucial for regulatory compliance and for fostering the adoption of deep learning in the highly regulated insurance sector

    Incidence of Rank Correlation Algorithm on the Assessment of Bimodal Sea State Conditions Based on Ship Motion Analysis

    The reliable assessment of sea state conditions, experienced by a ship advancing in a seaway, is a key factor to avoid potential dynamic instabilities at quartering and following seas, reduce possible injuries of the crew, due to sliding or tipping events, increase the wellness of passengers by reducing the motion sickness incidence and avoid possible cargo loss. In this respect, ships receive a variety of forecast data by wave buoys and weather satellites, such as those ones provided by the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. Nevertheless, most of measured wave data are acquired along the coastlines and provided on a large scale, making almost impossible to obtain a reliable assessment of local sea state conditions experienced by the ship along its route. In this respect, thanks to the employment of the wave buoy analogy, it is possible to overcome this lack and obtain unvaluable information from the measurement and spectral analysis of ship motions and accelerations. Indeed, most of past research activities focused on the assessment of wave spectra for unimodal sea state conditions, even if the seaway experienced by the ship generally consists of both wind-sea and swell components, with different heading angles, significant wave heights and wave peak periods. Hence, the aim of the paper is the development and preliminary testing of a new algorithm, based on the employment of spectral correlation coefficients for the assessment of bimodal sea state conditions, starting from the measurement and analysis of ship accelerations. Pearson and Spearman rank correlation coefficients are evaluated and compared to detect the best correlation algorithm in different sea state conditions. The analysis is conducted considering the S-175 containership as reference vessel. Ship motions are simulated by a purposely developed code in the time-domain
