A critical analysis of the integration of life cycle methods and quantitative methods for sustainability assessment
The utilization of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and its corresponding methodologies gained considerable attention within the realm of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability assessment. Nevertheless, a lack of extensive investigation on their integration along with quantitative procedures, for example, statistical techniques and artificial intelligence (AI), has emerged. The purpose of this literature review is to investigate the extent to which these methodologies have been connected so far in order to achieve objectives concerning the assessment of sustainability. The scope of the study was restricted to articles published in peer-reviewed journals throughout the period from 1960 to 2022. The investigation was conducted by using a broad set of keywords, encompassing both life cycle methods, including Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Life Cycle Costing and Emergy Accounting, and quantitative methods, such as mathematical methods, economic methods and building information modeling methods. A total of 144 articles addressing the combined use of life cycle methods and quantitative methodologies for the evaluation of sustainability were identified in the literature review. The greater part of these studies relied on the combined use of LCA with mathematical models, statistical methods and AI methods. As a result, the studies proven that the joint application of such methods can improve consistency of sustainability assessment and enhance CSR. Additionally, many articles suggested novel approaches, including a combined use of LCA and building information modeling as well as simulation methods. The combined use of life cycle methods alongside quantitative methods offers promise in enhancing sustainability assessment by offering more precise and consistent outcomes. However, it becomes imperative to carefully evaluate the hypotheses, accuracy of data, and uncertainty associated with each method within the integration process. Additional research needs to be conducted in order to establish standardized protocols for combining these methodologies as well as to identify the most suitable procedures for their integration with respect to specific objectives concerning sustainability assessment
Assessing the Sustainability of Peer-to-Peer Sharing Platforms: A Holistic Evaluation Framework
The growing awareness of social and environmental topics such as climate change, social inequality, and poverty from humanity has driven global efforts toward sustainable development through concrete policy initiatives. In this changed socio-economic context and with the rise of IT technologies, the Sharing Economy model has spread thanks to digital economy platforms. These platforms fit in the contest of Closed-Loop Supply Chain (CLSC) facilitating the reuse, regeneration and sharing of products, things the resources are re-integrated in the economic system, reducing the need for production and minimising waste. The growth of digital sharing platforms has raised concerns about their role in supporting social and environmentally sustainable consumption. In line with this, the evaluation of the governance of these platforms also raises questions regarding the management of power and the balance between the interests of users and owners. In this context, current literature lacks a comprehensive framework for assessing the social-environmental sustainability of these platforms and the form of governance that characterises them. To tackle this issue, the paper proposes an
innovative holistic framework to assess the sustainability of digital platforms, with a focus on Peer-to-Peer
platforms. The framework is created adapting and integrating protocols, variables and framings already presents in the literature. The study aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the social, environmental impacts and types of governance of these platforms. Then the framework obtained is applied to a pool of forty P2P platforms, enabling a detailed assessment of their current sustainability practices and governance structures. The findings contribute to the literature by proposing a holistic framework to evaluate the sustainability of digital platforms in the sharing economy and provide a systematic approach to understanding their role in the global transition towards sustainability
Hybrid polarimetric synthetic aperture radar measurements to monitor sea oil spills: the case study of the Mauritius island accidental oil spill
Marine oil spills are one of the major threats affecting the ocean ecosystem. In this study, C-band hybrid polarimetric synthetic aperture radar measurements, collected by the Canadian Radarsat Constellation Mission, are used to observe oil spills at sea. For the purpose of this study, the accidental oil spill occurred in 2020 off the coast of the Mauritius island is considered as a case study. A set of hybrid polarimetric features are extracted from the wave polarimetry second-order descriptors to analyse their capabilities of identifying the oil spill and discriminate oil-free from oil-covered sea surface
Monitoring the Seasonal Behavior and Morphological Changes of the Hunga Iceberg Using Sentinel-1 SAR data
This study presents the temporal monitoring and structural assessment of the Hunga iceberg using dual-polarized Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data acquired from January 2022 to April 2023. A time series analysis was conducted using one SAR acquisition per month to observe iceberg drift, rotation and deformation under varying environmental conditions in Terra Nova Bay, Antarctica. The seasonal impact on iceberg motion was evident: during Antarctic summer (Octo-ber-March), the iceberg drifted freely in open water, while in winter (April-September), dense sea ice limited iceberg drifting significantly. A significant fragmentation event was detected in April 2023, which was validated by comparing the areas of fractured parts with the original iceberg footprint. These findings demonstrate the capability of dual-polarized SAR data in monitoring iceberg dynamics and detecting structural changes over time

Abstract This chapter explores diversity management within the Italian Public Administration (PA), using the Italian National Social Security Institute (INPS) as a case study. It analyzes the theoretical principles and practical applications of diversity management, with a focus on the role of soft skills and the implementation of inclusive policies. This chapter highlights how INPS integrates diversity man-agement into its human resource management processes, providing an overview of the challenges and opportunities in this field. Through the analysis of documents and interviews, it offers concrete examples of recruitment policies, training, and the creation of inclusive work environments

Characterization of irregular cyclicities in heavy-tailed data
The statistical characterization of heavy-tailed data with hidden irregular periodicities is introduced. Specifically, processes generated by the interaction of random phenomena with heavy-tailed distribution and almost-periodic phenomena with possibly irregular or disturbed peridicities are characterized in terms of fractional lower-order moments. For this wide class of processes, fractional lower-order moments are expressed as the superposition of amplitude- and angle-modulated sine waves. The model introduced in the paper extends the previously introduced one for heavy-tailed almost cyclostationary (ACS) processes to the case of irregular periodicities. Moreover, it introduces for the class of the oscillatory ACS processes a characterization in terms of fractional lower-order moments. For the new class, the problem of statistical function estimation is addressed. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is corroborated by the analysis of simulated alpha-stable time-warped ACS processes and of real acoustic helicopter data
