The cause-effect relationship between synoptic and local wind patterns and PM10 concentrations in the complex-orography urban area of Naples (Italy)
This study examines the relationship between the temporal variability of PM10 concentrations and synoptic and local wind patterns in Naples over a four-year period (2018, 2020–2022). PM10 data were collected from three monitoring stations (IT1493, IT1491, and IT1497), representing different atmospheric pollution conditions: suburban traffic, urban traffic, and background, respectively. The mean PM10 concentrations recorded at these stations were 33.3 ± 0.5 μg/m3, 32.1 ± 0.4 μg/m3, and 27.4 ± 0.3 μg/m3, all remaining below the EU annual limit of 40 μg/m3. However, extreme daily peaks during the sampling period reached 203.1 μg/m3 at the suburban site, 128.6 μg/m3 at the urban site, and 129 μg/m3 at the background site, indicating severe pollution episodes. The intradiurnal cycle showed a bimodal pattern in PM10 concentrations at the urban and suburban sites, with peaks occurring in the morning and evening, coinciding with traffic activity. In contrast, the background site showed a flatter profile, suggesting a weaker influence of local sources. The occurrence of high concentrations is mainly registered in winter. A backward trajectory analysis using the HYSPLIT model identified eight dominant synoptic airflow patterns, with nearby, westerly, and northerly flows being the most frequent. Notably, nearby airflows—often associated with sea-land breeze circulations, as it is observed by analyzing surface winds—were responsible for 75 % of the exceedances of the EU daily limit of 50 μg/m3, highlighting their role in pollutant accumulation and restricted dispersion. These findings underscore the critical influence of local wind circulation and large-scale transport mechanisms on air quality in Naples. They emphasize the need for integrated air quality management strategies that address both local emissions and regional transport processes to develop effective mitigation policies for Mediterranean coastal cities
AI-driven HRM and managerial competencies: Strengthening organizational resilience in Public Administration
Purpose: Drawing on the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, this study investigates how Public Administrations (PAs) can enhance organizational resilience through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Human Resource Management (HRM) practices.
Design/methodology/approach: Adopting a qualitative and inductive research design, the study combines the analysis of policy and strategy documents with data from four exploratory focus groups and 43 semi-structured interviews with public managers.
Findings: The study identifies four mechanisms through which AI enhances resilience in PAs. First, the integration of AI into HRM improves recruitment, training, and performance management. Second, the development of key managerial competencies—including strategic thinking, change management, and emotional intelligence—supports effective AI adoption. Third, overcoming cultural and structural barriers, such as resistance to change and digital skill gaps, enables transformation. Fourth, the use of AI-driven tools strengthens crisis response, operational efficiency, and employee engagement. Together, these mechanisms foster adaptability and long-term resilience, highlighting the strategic role of AI-enabled HRM in the public sector.
Practical implications: The findings offer practical recommendations for PA leaders, emphasizing the importance of AI-enabled HRM systems, continuous managerial development, and strategic actions to overcome implementation barriers. These insights provide a comprehensive roadmap for enhancing adaptability, efficiency, and resilience in public sector organizations—encompassing smart investments, leadership development, a supportive work culture, ethical governance, and infrastructure modernization.
Originality/value: This study advances the literature on AI adoption in PA by offering a nuanced, empirically grounded perspective on how AI-driven HRM practices and managerial competencies interact to shape organizational resilience
Hormesis and health: molecular mechanisms and the key role of polyphenols
Hormesis is a fundamental adaptive mechanism in response to moderate stress stimuli. This phenomenon underlies many preventive and therapeutic strategies, particularly in the context of chronic-degenerative diseases. The aim of the current article is to analyze the main molecular pathways involved in hormetic processes, and their roles in promoting longevity, cellular resilience, and protection against harmful agents. Among the substances capable of triggering hormetic responses, polyphenols, bioactive compounds found in many plant-based foods, play a prominent role. Although polyphenols have relatively modest direct antioxidant activity, they are powerful inducers of hormetic responses. They act as low-dose xenobiotics, capable of stimulating endogenous cellular defense mechanisms. This dual nature, potentially toxic at high doses but beneficial at low concentrations, grants polyphenols a central role in modulating oxidative stress and inflammation. This review offers a novel perspective by integrating molecular, nutritional, and systemic dimensions of polyphenol-induced hormesis, with particular emphasis on the dynamic crosstalk between cellular stress responses and microbiota-derived signals. This manuscript highlights underappreciated mechanisms and proposes a more interconnected framework for understanding the health effects of polyphenols. In conclusion, polyphenol-induced hormesis appears as an innovative and promising paradigm for health promotion and the prevention of age-related diseases
Environmentally Sustainable Development: The Role of Supply Chain Digitalization in Firms' Green Productivity
In the midst of the global push for environmental protection and sustainable development, supply chain digitalization (SCD) hasbecome a key enabler of both operational efficiency and green production. The existent literature, however, has mainly focusedon SCD's impact on operational efficiency, neglecting its role in advancing environmental sustainability through green total fac-tor productivity (GTFP). This study addresses this gap by examining how SCD influences GTFP, both directly and indirectly viathe mechanism of supply chain resilience (SCR). Data from Chinese A-share firms between 2013 and 2023 was analyzed usinga comprehensive double machine learning approach, revealing SCD's significant positive impact on GTFP and the crucial roleof SCR in this relationship. Heterogeneity analysis further indicated that SCD's ability to improve GTFP is most pronounced instate-owned firms, heavily polluting industries, and economically developed regions, adding an original dimension to the find-ings. By establishing the critical role of SCD in promoting environmental sustainability, this study makes valuable contributionsto the literature and offers policy insights for countries aiming to accelerate the digitalization and green transformation of theirsupply chain

Lo scritto analizza la nuova disciplina delle operazioni straordinarie contenuta nell’art. 116 CCII riformulato dal d.lgs. 136/2024 alla luce dei problemi interpretativi sollevati dalla precedente formulazione della norma e si sofferma, in particolare, sulle peculiarità del procedimento di fusione e scissione nella disciplina concorsuale e sulle conseguenze della sua emancipazione dalle regole generali del codice civile.
The paper analyzes the new regulation of merger and divisions contained in the art. 116 CCII reformulated by Legislative Decree n° 136/2024 in light of the problems raised by the previous rule and focuses, in particular, on the peculiarities of the merger and division procedure in insolvency law and on the consequences of its exceptionality compared to the civil code general rules
The role of public employment services in young people's job search: a comparative study of Italy, Poland, and Romania
Recent shocks and socio-economic crises increased the complexity of the labour market and demonstrated that youth unemployment remains a significant challenge for public policies in EU countries. Young people often struggle with socio-professional integration difficulties, dependence on family or public subsidies, and risk of marginalisation. Public employment services (PES) should play an important role in mitigating the negative consequences of economic downturns. The objective of this work is to understand whether PES are among young people's preferences in job search activities, assess their efficacy and discuss their capacity to reach the most vulnerable segments of the population effectively. For this aim, we used data from the European Labour Force Survey (LFS) from 2015 to 2020 to collect information about young job seekers and their job search strategies. The study focuses on Italy, Poland, and Romania, three EU countries with a low propensity to rely on PES. Our study highlights the heterogeneous nature of job seekers and shows that PES plays a limited role in their job search process. Our study emphasises the need for tailored approaches to support young job seekers effectively and provides policy suggestions
Poverty Alleviation Through Accounting and Partnerships: A Systematic Review and Future Research Directions
This study analyzes carbon accounting (CA) and true cost accounting (TCA) to measure decarbonization practices to meet the
sustainable development goal (SDG) 1 (end poverty in all its forms everywhere). These tools can empower firms to achieve insightful data to pursue a balance between economic, environmental, and social goals. This study also investigates the role of partnerships (SDG 17) in sharing resources and knowledge while adopting decarbonization practices to achieve SDG1. Leveraging SDG17 to meet SDG1 and the overall business model, this study introduces the concept of poverty alleviation business models.
This study analyzed 172 articles published between 1990 and 2024 from the Scopus database and Google Scholar using descriptive, bibliometric, and network analyses as well as content analysis. The results highlight that CA helps firms develop
decarbonization strategies to promote sustainable practices for SDG1 based on partnerships. This study also highlights that
TCA evaluates the economic, social, and environmental impacts of firms' activities, enabling sustainable decision-making
and identifying opportunities for poverty alleviation business models. This study provides a pioneering analysis of corporate decarbonization by examining how firms can develop a balanced business model that integrates economic, environmental, and social goals, specifically SDG1. This study explores on the one hand CA and TCA as managerial tools for measuring decarbonization practices through new technologies and renewable resources and, on the other hand, SDG17, particularly Target 17.G, to advance SDG1. This study contributes a novel conceptual framework for poverty alleviation business models that has not been adequately addressed in the history of accounting research

Towards a Parallel Code for Cellular Behavior in Vitro Prediction
In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in developing in vitro models that predict the behavior of cells in living organisms. Mathematical models based on differential equations, and related numerical algorithms, have been provided to this aim. In this work, we present first experiences in designing parallel strategies for accelerating an algorithm for behavior prediction based on the Cellular Potts Model (CPM). In particular, we exploit the computational power of Graphic Process Units in CUDA environment to address main low-level kernels involved. Tests and experiments complete the paper
