Food waste is embarrassing! Motivations and actions to prevent it among students in Italy
Purpose – According to recent studies, young people are most inclined to waste food, and an important
category is represented by students. Unlike other young people, they possess several characteristics
that influence their food waste behaviour. For these reasons, this study aims to identify the elements that
influence students’ behaviour towards food waste in Italy to provide insights on how to reduce food waste
among young consumers.
Design/methodology/approach – In this exploratory research, a Web survey involving 1,066 Italian
students was used, and, after a factor analysis, a hierarchical multiple linear regression model was
applied.
Findings – The findings showed that, at a young age, the food thrown away and the reasons are
positively associated with food waste, while the family size and the actions that students adopt to prevent
food waste are negatively associated with it.
Practical implications – Recognizing that students are the people who will shape the food waste
scenario of the future, it is important to implement educational paths about it and to raise consumer
awareness. The findings might provide interesting insights on how to develop educational campaigns for
specific target groups, such as students. In fact, the results underline that local institutions and retailers
should be involved in educational campaigns aimed at both addressing the motivations behind food
waste and improving the actions people take to prevent it.
Originality/value – The paper revisits the issue using a relatively large sample of Italian students (youths
aged 16–18 years). The results provide valuable insights on how to approach hypothetical Italian
students in view of the potential development of new strategies for reducing food waste
Board gender diversity, ESG controversies and circular economy disclosure. An analysis on European listed companies
Purpose – This paper aims to explore how board gender diversity impacts on circular economy (CE) disclosure by a sample of European listed companies. In addition, the paper investigates the moderating role of environmental, social and governance (ESG) controversies in previous relationship.
Design/methodology/approach – The study conducted a regression analysis on a sample of 485 companies and 3,761 firm-year observations of European listed companies operating in 19 countries between 2004 and 2021.
Findings – The results reveal that the presence of female directors on the board favors the release of higher levels of CE disclosures. Moreover, female directors operating in companies characterized by
higher levels of ESGcontroversies tend to release higher CE disclosures.
Research limitations/implications – First, the paper does not investigate the qualitative dimension of disclosures. Moreover, the research does not examine other elements of differentiation within the boards, such as cultural or religious diversities.
Practical implications – The analysis shows that diversity has an impact on the dissemination of CE information. This should lead companies and policymakers to orient their actions toward both greater diversity in board composition and the higher CE disclosure in fostering sustainable development.
Originality/value – This paper offers novel contributions to existing literature suggesting an objective way to measure CE-related disclosure and investigating the moderating role of ESG controversies in the relationship between gender diversity and CE disclosure
Creazione di valore e governance del patrimonio culturale: il ruolo del capitale umano nella sostenibilità
In order to understand the key role of the corporate governance in the management of the cultural heritage and in response to the current challenges posed by the sustainability, the aim of this paper is to analyse the critical successes factor and the drivers of the value creation in the governance of cultural heritage. In line with the aim of the paper, empirical research was conducted
using the multiple case study methodology,
focusing on two exemplary cases in the city of Naples,
that allows for an in-depth analysis
of governance models in relation to cultural heritage. The results highlight, although in an exploratory form, that one of the main critical success factors in the valorization of cultural heritage is human capital, as a link between cultural heritage and the territory.
This research contributes to the literature by providing a novel perspective on cultural heritage governance through the lens of corporate governance and sustainability. The originality of the study lies in its integration of corporate governance principles into the analysis of cultural heritage management, offering a unique framework for understanding the interplay between governance models and sustainable development goals. Furthermore, the study has practical implications for both managerial and institutional practices, suggesting pathways to strengthen the connection between cultural heritage and territorial development. These insights open avenues for further exploration in the field, particularly in refining governance models that align with sustainability imperatives and fostering a deeper integration of cultural heritage into socio-economic development strategies
INCLUSIVE SPORTS AND BEST PRACTICES
This study presents a basketball-based motor program to promote
school inclusion of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The project involved 30 students aged 11 to 13 in 30 afternoon
sessions. Pre- and post-intervention questionnaires and motor tests
revealed average improvements of 20% in attention, collaboration,
self-esteem, and space-time organization. The program encouraged
well-being and active participation in the educational context
Mapping and measuring IC in Knowledge-Intensive Organizations: An interventionist study
This research proposes a conceptual framework for mapping and measuring intellectual capital (IC) in knowledge-intensive organizations (KIOs) and designs a tool specifically aimed at identifying and evaluating the processes that lead to the creation, enhancement and maintenance of IC. IC is increasingly recognized as a key strategic asset in today's competitive business environment. However, its intangible nature presents challenges for quantification and it is particularly relevant in KIOs. Despite various frameworks proposed by literature, the practical implementation of IC measurement remains inconsistent, with limited evidence of its adoption and benefits in organizations. This study adopts an interventionist approach, with academics working with a research center to address the issues of IC mapping and measurement. The research findings present a conceptual framework and an IC tool, composed of processes and processes indicators, which has been subsequently tested in a selected department, representing our pilot case. This article contributes to both research and practice on non-financial measurement, by conceptualizing an innovative approach to mapping and measuring IC in the complex context of KIOs
