In a Ministerial Statement adopted at the 55th session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, ministers reiterated the urgency of transforming Africa’s economies and driving industrialization. They underscored the need to expedite economic recovery in Africa which is likely to miss many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

No full textReport on the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries for the Decade 2014–2024 is provided of implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action in Africa over the past decade. In the first part of the report, a summary is provided of socioeconomic development in landlocked developing countries in Africa. A more detailed overview is then provided of progress achieved in connection with the six priorities for action prescribed in the Vienna Programme of Action. Lastly, a number of conclusions are drawn, and relevant stakeholders are urged to adopt a successor framework to the Vienna Programme of Action that will embody a renewed commitment to address the pressing needs of landlocked developing countries, in line with the recommendations made in the outcome document of the High-level Africa Regional Review Meeting in Preparation for the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in Gaborone in May 2023
Call for accelerated action to support structural transformation of land locked developing countries
No full textLandlocked Developing Countries, currently experiencing economic and infrastructural challenges, need increased technical and financial support to achieve sustainable development, leaders have called during the High-level Africa regional review meeting of the Vienna Programme of Action (VPoA) for Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) which opened in the Botswana Capital, Gaborone. Africa is home to 16 of the world’s 32 landlocked developing countries, 13 of which are Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The two-day meeting being held under the theme, “From Vienna to Kigali: towards a new decade of partnerships for a transformative Programme of Action for LLDCs' ' will review the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action in Africa. Organized by the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) jointly with the ECA and the Government of Botswana, the meeting is being attended by Ministers and senior government officials from ministries dealing directly with the implementation of the VPoA

No full textLe présent communiqué de presse s’agit de la Commission économique pour l’Afrique (CEA) qu’associée au Secrétariat ougandais des ODD pour dispenser une formation sur l’exploitation des lignes directrices régionales africaines des Examens locaux volontaires dans une multitude de localités du pays à Entebbe, Ouganda, le 14 mars 2023 (CEA). La formation contribuera à la mise en œuvre au niveau local du Programme 2030 pour le développement durable et de l’Agenda 2063 de l’Union africaine au niveau municipal. La formation permettra à cinq localités présentes de s’engager dans leurs propres processus d’’examen des ODD. L’Ouganda fait partie d’un certain nombre de pays, dont le Bénin, la Gambie, le Zimbabwe et d’autres, qui exploitent les lignes directrices régionales pour promouvoir le développement durable

No full textLa présente note d’information décrit les perspectives de réalisation des objectifs de développement durable et de l’Agenda 2063 en Afrique, dans le contexte des crises en cascade déclenchées par la pandémie de maladie à coronavirus (COVID-19) et par la guerre entre la Fédération de Russie et l’Ukraine. L’analyse s’appuie sur les conclusions du Rapport sur le développement durable en Afrique 2022 élaboré par la Commission de l’Union africaine, la Commission économique pour l’Afrique (CEA), le Programme des Nations Unies pour le développement (PNUD) et la Banque africaine de développement (BAD), qui était axé sur le thème du forum politique de haut niveau 2022 pour le développement durable : « Reconstruire en mieux après la pandémie de maladie à coronavirus (COVID-19), tout en avançant sur la voie d’une mise en œuvre intégrale du Programme de développement durable à l’horizon 2030 ». La présente note contient des propositions de mesures à prendre pour accélérer la réalisation des objectifs de développement durable et renforcer la résilience aux chocs extérieurs
Uganda tourism satellite account: measuring the contribution of tourism to the economy of Uganda 2023
No full textThe Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) is an accounting framework adopted by the United Nations (UN) Statistics Commission (2000) and was designed to measure goods and services associated with tourism according to international standards, concepts, classifications and definitions. The direct economic contribution of Tourism to the economy of Uganda was measured through the construction of the 10 TSA tables. The ten tables were systematically constructed using primary and secondary data. It analyzed all aspects of demand for goods and services associated with the tourism sector within the economy, monitored the operational interface of the supply of such goods and services, and evaluated how supply interacts with other economic activities. The Uganda Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) was intended to establish the direct contribution of Tourism to the economy using the recommended Tourism Satellite Account methodology. The specific goals were to estimate tourism demand and supply, assess value added by tourism activities to the economy, establish the level of employment generated by the tourism activities, measure the gross fixed capital formation by the sector, and measure the collective consumption of tourism services by the Government

The legal and regulatory measures researched are categorized into policy areas in both digital services trade restrictions and digital trade integration, and the results are presented in the corresponding section of the profile. Abidjan - Towards a national migrant skill recognition mechanism in Côte d'Ivoire
No full textThe State Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Diaspora is organizing, in partnership with the Economic Commission for Africa (Office for North Africa), the final workshop for the establishment of a national mechanism for the recognition of skills of migrant workers in Côte d'Ivoire on 11-12 May 2023, in Abidjan. About fifty representatives of ministries, government institutions specialized in employment and migration issues, the private sector and civil society will be taking part in this meeting which aims to discuss and submit, in consultation with technical partners, a roadmap for the creation of a national mechanism for the recognition of skills of migrant workers. Migration is a crosscutting sustainable development issue directly linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
