No full textThis African Regional Report provides an analysis of progress in the reporting process and the status of transboundary water co-operation for both surface water and aquifer resources in Africa. It also provides an analysis of gaps and recommendations for improving transboundary water co-operation to meet the SDG target 6.5. The Water Convention (hosted by the UN Economic Commission for Europe-ECE) aims at protecting and ensuring the quantity, quality and sustainable use of transboundary water resources by facilitating and promoting cooperation to secure peace and stability, economic development and growth, the protection of natural resources and sustainable development. Africa's transboundary rivers, lakes and aquifers with impact on long term water resources management are further stressed by climate change. Africa contributes very little to global warming which is the root cause of climate change

No full textThe present document is a summary of the proposed programme plan for 2024, the programme performance for 2022 and the proposed programme budget for 2024 of the Economic Commission for Africa, the full texts of which are under review by the Programme Planning and Budget Division. The ECA programme strategy focuses on transformational changes to make a measurable contribution to the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063, utilizing an integrated and coherent approach. In pursuing its mandate, ECA will continue to concentrate on five strategic directions: Deploying knowledge to support policy-making to drive the development agenda of Africa; Formulating policy options to accelerate economic diversification and job creation for the transformation of Africa; Designing and implementing financing models and leveraging them for the development of human, physical and social infrastructure assets; Supporting ideas and actions to foster deeper regional integration and the development of regional public goods, with a focus on social inclusion and taking into account synergies between the economic and social development programmes of Africa; Advocating a common position for Africa at the global level and developing regional responses as a contribution to global governance issues

No full textThe SADC National Planning Entities (NPEs) held their second annual conference in Gaborone, Botswana, on July 6-7, 2023. The conference, organized under the SADC NPE Platform, brought together representatives from 13 SADC member states, along with officials from the SADC Secretariat, the Economic Commission for Africa, and other stakeholders. The primary objective of the conference was to assess the progress made since the relaunch of the NPE Platform and deliberate on strategic and operational matters. ECA affirms support for Ethiopia’s trade policy agenda
No full textThe ECA has supported Ethiopia in trade policy development and conducted the first of its kind analysis on the economic impact of the country’s participation in the AfCFTA. Furthermore, the ECA has supported training programmes organized for leaders and the 2/3 senior staff of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations and the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce. Recently, ECA commissioned the translation of the text of the AfCFTA Agreement into Amharic to make it closer to the people
