No full textOn the temperature dependence of the photoelectric work function of contact materials
Get PDFp.p. 463-467The nature of the contact material plays a key role to determine the characteristics of the electric arcs and particularly those of the electronic emission. Mechanical and thermodynamic properties as well as electron emission of such complicated alloys present a lack of reliable and accurate experimental data. The purpose of this paper is to present the development of a method for measuring photoelectric work function of pure contact materials that are actually used in relays. Also reported in this manuscript are the results of experimental work whose purpose has been the buildup of a reliable photoelectric system and associated monochromatic ultra-violet radiations source, and the photoelectric measurement of the electron work functions (EWF) of contact materials. In order to study the influence of temperature on the EWF, a vacuum furnace was used for heating the metallic samples up to 700 K. The Fowler’s method of isothermal curves was used for the photoelectric measurement of the EWF. As a first test of the experimental UHV set-up, the EWF of the silver contact materials, namely pure polycrystalline metals (Ag, Cu, Ni, Sn and Zn) were investigated to study the influence of surface cathode temperature on the EWF. In the present study, the photoelectric measurements about silver contacts have shown a linear decrease of the EWF with increasing temperature, i.e. the temperature coefficient dt d\u100049 \u100044 \u100020 is constant and negative: \u100044 \u100020 \u1000104.58\u10009810\u1000104eV / K in the experiment temperature range [300 K \u100010 780 K
Gas radiation effects on opposing double-diffusive convection in a non-gray air–H2O mixture
No full textWe studied numerically the effects of gas radiation on double-diffusive convection in a square enclosure filled with a non-gray air–H2O mixture at different concentrations. Uniform temperatures and concentrations are imposed along the two vertical side walls of the enclosure so as to induce opposing thermal and mass buoyancy forces within the fluid. In this work, the radiative aspect of the problem is treated by the discrete ordinate method (to solve the radiative transfer equation) and the SLW spectral model (to account for the radiative properties of the non-gray mixture). Gas absorption varies with the local concentration of H2O, which induces a strong direct coupling between the concentration and thermal fields that otherwise would not exist. Numerical results show that radiative effects on the characteristics of streamline, temperature and concentration fields are important, and depend on the nature of the flow regime (thermal at 5% H2O, transitional at 10% and mass at 25%). No full textص. 152 : 30 سمإن التدخل الدولي في ظل وجود مبدأ عدم التدخل في الشؤون الداخلية للدولة الذي يعتبر هذا الأخير بمثابة حجر عثرة يقف في طريق حماية المدنيين أثناء النزاعات التي تكون من الصميم الداخلي للدولة ،ذلك أن تلك الانتهاكات سواء كانت الدولة غير قادرة او غير راغبة في الحد منها بحجة السيادة ، أدت لوصف المسؤولية عن الحماية على أنها نهج جديد وجد لحماية السكان من تلك الجرائم التي ترتكب داخل تلك الدولة ، وعليه يولي هذا المبدأ ـ المسؤولية عن الحماية ــ بالإضافة إلى ما تضمنته هيئة الامم المتحدة في الوثائق والتقارير الدولية التي أوجدتها بشأن حماية المدنيين أثناء النزاعات الداخلية بأنه لابد من وجود نهج لحماية السكان من الفظائع الجماعية ، وعليه فإن الاعتقاد بأن وضع حد للأعمال الإبادة البشرية والتطهير العرقي واسع النطاق والخسائر الفادحة في الأرواح هو في متناول البشرية (المجتمع الدولي ) لأنه سيكون أمرا مشجعا إذا ما تعاون المجتمع الدولي على حماية هاته الشعوب في تلك الدولة، وفي حين أن السعي إلى تطوير مفهوم المسؤولية عن الحماية هو أمر يستحق العناء لأن مشروعية تفعيلها تتطلب مزيدا من التحليل والتدقيق، ويتناول هذا البحث على وجه الخصوص مفهوم المسؤولية عن الحماية في ظل التدخل الدولي ، حيث ينظر في ما إذا كان مفهوم المسؤولية عن الحماية يعزز مشروعية التدخل الدولي سواء في شقها السلمي أو العسكري لتسوية النزاع داخل تلك الدول

Structural and mössbauer studies of evaporated Fe100-xPdx thin films
No full textIn order to study the influence of palladium atom on structural and hyperfine properties, Fe100-xPdx films (x = 15, 20 and 36 at.%) were deposited by evaporation method onto a Si (1 0 0) substrate. They were then characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy (CEMS). X-ray diffraction analysis shows the presence of supersaturated solid solution with bcc structure for Pd concentration of 15% and 20%. However, for 36% of Pd, in addition to the supersaturated α-FePd (bcc) phase, another disordered FePd3 phase with fcc structure is present. The grain size did not change with Pd concentration and was about 11 nm, and the lattice parameter increased from 0.287 Å to 0.290 Å with an increasing Pd concentration. The adjustment of Mössbauer spectra confirms the results obtained by X-ray diffraction. Moreover, the Mössbauer spectra have shown that a magnetic texture is present for samples with 20 and 36%. For these Pd concentrations, we believe that a development of an out-of plane magnetic anisotropy occurs in our film
