Isolation of an extremely halophilic arhaeon Natrialba sp. C21 able to degrade aromatic compounds and to produce stable biosurfactant at high salinity
No full textNatrialba sp. strain C21 was isolated from oil contaminated saline water in Ain Salah (Algeria) and has exhibited a good potential for degrading phenol (3 % v/v), naphthalene (3 % v/v), and pyrene (3 % v/v) at high salinity with high growth, enzymatic activity and biosurfactant production. Successful metabolism of aromatic hydrocarbon compounds of the strain Natrialba sp. C21 appears to require the ortho-cleavage pathway. Indeed, assays of the key enzymes involved in the ring cleavage of catechol 1, 2-dioxygenase indicated that degradation of the phenol, naphthalene and pyrene by strain Natrialba sp. C21 was via the ortho-cleavage pathway. Cells grown on aromatic hydrocarbons displayed greater ortho-activities mainly towards catechol, while the meta-activity was very low. Besides, biosurfactants derived from the strain C21 were capable of effectively emulsifying both aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons and seem to be particularly promising since they have particular adaptations like the increased stability at high temperature and salinity conditions. This study clearly demonstrates for the first time that strain belonging to the genera Natrialba is able to grow at 25 % (w/v) NaCl, utilizing phenol, naphthalene, and pyrene as the sole carbon sources. The results suggest that the isolated halophilic archaeon could be a good candidate for the remediation process in extreme environments polluted by aromatic hydrocarbons. Moreover, the produced biosurfactant offers a multitude of interesting potential applications in various fields of biotechnology. © 2015 Springer Japa
Evidence-Fuzzy System for Human Concurrent Activities Recognition
No full textActivity recognition is an important task which can be applied to many real- life problems in pervasive computing. In this work, we propose concurrent activities recognition system based on two layers of inference. The first layer develops a framework for dealing with fusion system through merging different sources of information using evidence theory. The second layer proposes a decision framework under the fuzzy logic formalism. Our experimental results suggest that the fuzzy logic method for the plausibility combinations at the decision level is the best for activities in progress simultaneously but not necessarily involving the user's interaction at the same time steps. It yields high accuracy of 79.7%, regarding experimental result

No full text251 ص. : ايض. ; 30 سمالعلاقات العامة الوسيلة العملية والعلمية التي تستخدمها وحدات الإدارة المحلية لزيادة فاعليتها، ولإيجاد الصورة الذهنية الجيدة لها عند جمهورها الداخلي والخارجي، حيث أن وجود العلاقات العامة في الإدارة المحلية يساعد هذه الأخيرة على تنمية الشعور بالمسؤولية الاجتماعية نحو المجتمع المحلي، وبإثارة الرأي العام المحلي بقضايا ومشاكل المجتمع المحلي حتى تجعله متجاوبا مع مشاريع التنمية التي تنفذ، والخدمات التي تقدم وتجعله مدركا للحاجة إليها ومشاركا في تنفيذها. كما تعد العلاقات العامة وسيلة وقائية من وقوع الوحدة المحلية في أخطاء عند إتخاذ القرارات التي تتعارض مع إرادة السكان و المواطنين المحليين. لذلك فبرامج العلاقات العامة ضرورية للرد على ما يثار من إنتقادات داخلية وخارجية، ولشرح سياسة الإدارة المحلية وإبراز الحقائق المجردة من الدعاية والتزييف. إذن فوجود جهاز العلاقات العامة له أهمية قصوى في الإدارة المحلية، حيث يساعدها على توثيق الصلة بينها وبين الجماهير التي تتعامل معها، بدءا بالجمهور الداخلي من خلال تهيئة ظروف العمل المادية والمعنوية المشجعة على العمل، والقيام بأنشطة تساعد الموظفين على تحسين علاقاتهم مع إداراتهم، مع فتح مجال لتقديم الإقتراحات والمشاركة في الوحدة المحلية، مع الإهتمام بمشاكلهم وشكاويهم. وفي هذا وصول إلى ترسيخ إنطباع جيد لدى الجمهور الخارجي، إذ سيجد هذا الأخير الأذان الصاغية من قبل الموظفين والمسؤولين من خلال حسن الاستقبال و سرعة أداء الخدمة، والتزود بكل المعلومات التي يحتاجها وهذا يساعد على كسب ثقة الجمهور الخارجي وزيادة مشاركته في تسيير وحدته المحلية لإحساسه بالانتماء الدائم له
Hyperbranched poly(amidoamine)s as additives for urea formaldehyde resin and their application in particleboard fabrication
Get PDFThree types of hyperbranched poly(amidoamine)s (PAMAMs), namely HB(MA-EDA)1, HB(MA-EDA)3, and HB(MA-DETA)1.2, were synthesized and used as modifiers for urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin. Particleboards bonded with these modified UF resins were fabricated and evaluated. The results showed that these PAMAMs caused some adverse effects on UF resin performance. The main problems of PAMAMs were their high buffer capacity and high pH values, which are attributed to the peripheral amino groups at the terminals, both of which had a serious negative influence on UF resin curing. These findings were supported by the gel time measurements in parallel with a predictive investigation on the resins using thermomechanical analysis (TMA). The gel time was prolonged, and the maximum modulus of elasticity (MOE) values decreased with the addition of HB(MA-EDA)3. The use of a strong acid curing agent (HCOOH) could reduce the gel time into a normal range; however the performance of the corresponding particleboards still deteriorated. Therefore, these PAMAMs are considered not suitable for the modification of UF resin when applied as final additives. Beyond all expectations, the modified UF resin that employed very finite amounts of HB(MA-EDA)1 as a pH regulator instead of NaOH yielded a considerable upgrade in performance of the produced particleboard
