    DOES THE PRE-ANAESTHETIC MEDICATION IMPROVE THE ANALGESIA OF MANDIBULAR MOLARS WITH IRREVERSIBLE PULPITIS? AN UMBRELLA REVIEW

    Determine whether the use of premedication increase the anaesthetic efficacy of the inferior alveolar nerve in teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis, through the review question: Does the use of premedication increase the efficacy of the anaesthetic technique of inferior alveolar nerve block on teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis?. Systematic reviews with and without meta-analyses that evaluated the influence of premedication on anaesthetic efficacy of the inferior alveolar nerve in symptomatic irreversible pulpitis of mandibular molars were systematically searched in six electronic databases (MEDLINE/PubMed, Scoupus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EMBASE and Open Grey), without restriction of language or year of publication. A Measurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews (AMSTAR 2) was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies. Twelve systematic reviews were included. Only one did not performed meta-analysis. The AMSTAR 2 overall confidence ranged from very low to high quality. The main findings of the systematic reviews were that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., ibuprofen, oxicam, diclofenac, association of ibuprofen with paracetamol, and ketorolac) increased the success of the inferior alveolar nerve block. From the ‘very low’ to ‘high’ quality evidence available, this umbrella review concluded that NSAIDs as premedication acts through cyclooxygenases pathways and block the synthesis of specific prostaglandins that difficult the mechanism of action of the anaesthesia, increasing the success rate of the anaesthetic technique of inferior alveolar nerve block efficacy in cases of mandibular molars with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis

    DOES PERIODONTAL INTERVENTION TIME INFLUENCE PERIAPICAL/PERIODONTAL REPAIR IN ENDODONTIC-PERIODONTAL LESIONS? A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

    The aim of this study was to investigate if the time of periodontal intervention influence the periapical/periodontal repair in endodontic-periodontal lesions. Six electronic databases were systematically searched for studies published up to April 2022, without restriction of language or year of publication, following the PIOS strategy: (P) adult patients with a diagnosis of endodontic-periodontal lesions; (I) endodontic and periodontal treatment; (O) periapical and periodontal healing; (S) clinical studies. Risk of bias assessment was performed with the revised Cochrane risk of bias tools for randomized trials (RoB 2) and nonrandomized interventions (ROBINS-I). The overall quality of evidence was assessed through the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) tool. Three studies (one prospective, one retrospective, and one randomized clinical trial) were included in the present review. Nonrandomized studies had a critical and serious risk of bias. The randomized clinical trial had some concerns risk of bias. Nonrandomized studies pointed that the endodontic intervention should be performed before the periodontal intervention. Randomized clinical trial reported improvements when endodontic and periodontal interventions were performed simultaneously. GRADE analysis showed a very low quality of evidence for both randomized and nonrandomized studies. Based on the evidence from the included studies, it was not possible to determine whether the time of periodontal intervention influence in periapical/periodontal repair of endodontic-periodontal lesions. Evidence suggests that although the endodontic intervention should be the first therapy of choice, it was not possible to specify the best time to perform the periodontal intervention

    DENTAL AVULSION AND REIMPLANTATION OF LEFT SIDE INCISOR: FOLLOW UP OF 22 YEARS

    The aim of this study is to report the treatment of a case of tooth avulsion where replantation and endodontic treatment were performed on tooth 22 and its follow-up for 22 years. A 9-year-old female patient suffered alveolar-dental trauma at school. Tooth 22 avulsed and remained approximately one hour and 10 minutes out of the mouth, stored in a dry medium. Then it was reimplanted and immobilized in a semi-rigid way with nylon thread and resin. The patient took antibiotics for seven days and was immunized against tetanus. After 10 days, the retainer was removed and the endodontic treatment of the tooth was started with coronal opening, root canal emptying and mechanical chemical preparation up to a #55 K file, using 2.5% NaOCI as an irrigating solution. Then, the canal was dried and filled with calcium hydroxide paste. Three years after the trauma, the patient started orthodontic treatment that lasted for another three years. Therefore, during the period of six years, tooth 22 remained with the intracanal medication, whose changes were every 6 months in the first 3 years and annually in the following 3 years. Three months after the removal of the orthodontic appliance, the root canal of tooth 22 was filled by the lateral condensation technique and with cement based on zinc oxide and eugenol. After three years, tooth 22 was clinically and radiographically examined and was found to be asymptomatic and without periapical alterations. A new control radiograph was taken 22 years later and tooth 22 is in periapical health, now rehabilitated with a fiberglass post and porcelain veneer. In cases of dental trauma, the long-term prognosis is doubtful, so clinical and radiographic follow-up is essential to assess the success of the treatment

    The effect of glide path preparation on the shaping ability of XP-endo® Shaper in simulated canals

    Aims: To compare the shaping efficiency of the XP-endo Shaper with or without glide path preparation with sequenced Scout Race files in J-shaped resin blocksMaterial and Methods: Forty simulated J-shaped root canals were classified into two groups (n=20). While the root canals were shaped with XPS after a glide path was created with Scout Race files in Group 1, the same procedures were done without the glide path preparation in Group 2. The pre-and post-instrumentation images were taken and superimposed. Transportation value (TV), centering ability (CA) and the total amount of resin removed (TRR) was calculated by using the obtained images with Adobe Photoshop CS5 software. These parameters were calculated based on 18 reference points (9 inner/9 outer walls) with 1-mm intervals according to 3 sections (coronal, middle, and apical of the canals). The data were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis and then Dunn's multiple comparison tests (p ? 0.05).Results: More resin was removed in Group 2 apical and coronal sections than in Group 1 (p=0.036). In Group 2, a higher transportation value was obtained in apical and middle sections compared to Group 1 (p<0.001). Group 1 showed a higher centering ratio in apical and middle sections than in Group 2 (p<0.001).  The centering ability of the instruments was decreased in the curvature part (middle section) of the canals.Conclusions: Within the limits of this study, glide path preparation using Scout Race instruments improved the shaping ability of XPS instrument by leading to less transportation and maintaining centering ability.

    INFLUENCE OF OBTURATION TECHNIQUES COMPARED TO THE LATERAL CONDENSATION TECHNIQUE ON THE SUCCESS OF ENDODONTIC TREATMENTS: SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

    The aim of this systematic review was to answer the question: “What is the influence of different obturator techniques compared to the lateral condensation technique on the success rate of non-surgical endodontic treatment?”. Electronic databases (MEDLINE/PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE and Open Gray) were searched until March 2021. Randomized clinical trials (RCT), non-randomized clinical trials (ECNR) and longitudinal studies were included. The Cochrane tools for risk of bias analysis of randomized clinical trials (RoB2) and non-randomized intervention studies (ROBINS-I) were used. The quality of evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) tool. Of 458 studies, 255 were excluded because they were duplicates. Another 183 studies were excluded after title and abstract reading. Eleven studies were included for analysis. Different techniques were analyzed (vertical compaction, single cone, thermoplasticized, gutta-percha carriers). Clinical and radiographic parameters were used to determine success. In most studies there was no difference in the success rate of endodontic treatments performed by lateral condensation technique compared to other techniques. Higher success rates were associated with the vertical compaction technique in two studies and lower rates in one study that used the single cone technique. Follow-up times varied between 2 months and 6 years. Two RCTs had a low risk of bias, and two a moderate risk of bias. For the nRCTs and longitudinal studies, a moderate risk of bias was observed in five studies, and a critical risk in two studies. The quality of evidence was classified as very low to moderate. Based on the available evidence, there are no differences in the clinical and radiographic success rates of different obturation techniques compared to the lateral condensation technique.

    INTERMEDIARY IRRIGATION FOR PREVENTION OF THE PRECIPITATE FORMED FROM THE INTERACTION OF IRRIGANT SOLUTIONS

    The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of distilled water (H2O) in preventing the brown-orange precipitate observed after the interaction between sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) 2.5% and chlorhexidine (CHX) 2%. Fifty canines were instrumented, longitudinally divided, and analyzed under a stereomicroscope at 16x and 40x magnifications. Then, all teeth were reassembled and distributed into 5 groups according to the final irrigation protocol: G1 (control) – 17% EDTA + NaOCl + CHX, with syringe; G2- 17% EDTA + NaOCl + CHX, with syringe + PUI (30s); G3 - 17% EDTA + NaOCl + H2O + CHX, with syringe and, with the exception of H2O, activated for 30s with PUI; G4 - 17% EDTA + NaOCl + H2O + CHX, with syringe + PUI (30s); G5 - 17% EDTA + NaOCl + H2O + CHX, H2O in CUI protocol, and applied with syringe + PUI (30s). The specimens were again analyzed under stereomicroscope. Final images after irrigation were classified by scores (0, 1, 2, 3) according to the amount of precipitate found. The statistical tests were performed with Kruskal-Wallis and Friedman tests (?=5%). In all thirds, G1 had significantly higher scores than the other groups. There was no statistical difference between the experimental groups (p>0.05). There was no difference between the thirds in the experimental groups (p>0.05).     O presente artigo tem por objetivo geral compreender como os microfundamentos das capacidades dinâmicas podem contribuir para a promoção de soluções em prol do desenvolvimento sustentável na Embrapa Tabuleiros Costeiros. Para tanto, foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa exploratória, por meio do método de pesquisa estudo de caso, com dados coletados via entrevistas e análise de documentos. O resultado do estudo apontou que a literatura está alinhada com a realidade da empresa analisada, pois os microfundamentos da capacidade dinâmica, a saber: Sensing (detecção), Seizing (aproveitamento) e Reconfiguring (reconfiguração) foram identificados em todas as etapas de sua produção, culminando no desenvolvimento sustentável da empresa.     UMA ANÁLISE DO IMPACTO DA GOVERNANÇA CORPORATIVA NA DISTRIBUIÇÃO DE DIVIDENDOS DAS EMPRESAS BRASILEIRAS

    As transformações ocorridas no mercado financeiro sob a ótica da Nova Economia Institucional são plausíveis para explicar a formação das estruturas de governança, o qual interfere na gestão das organizações e em sua tomada de decisões, inclusive em relação à política de dividendos. Diante disso, esse trabalho analisou o impacto da governança corporativa na distribuição de dividendos das empresas brasileiras não financeiras listadas na B3, considerando o período de 2010 a 2018. Foi utilizada uma regressão linear múltipla cujos coeficientes foram estimados pelo GMM e com dados em painel. Os resultados apontam que as companhias menores que possuem maior concentração acionária em um único acionista ou nos três maiores acionistas, tendem a possuir uma maior distribuição de dividendos. O artigo contribui por considerar três proxies de governança corporativa, o tamanho das empresas e a endogeneidade entre as variáveis de estudo

    ESTUDO PARA MELHORIA NA PERFORMANCE E EFICIÊNCIA DE PLACAS FOTOVOLTAICAS: ATRAVÉS DE UM SISTEMA DE RESFRIAMENTO

    This work presents a methodology for generating solar energy through the photovoltaic system, detailing its components and demonstrating its efficiency, and one of the main reasons for the reduction in its efficiency is the high operating temperatures. The objective is to analyze the influence of temperature on photovoltaic panel of 150 Watt (W) and produce a continuous cooling system using water as the cooling fluid (providing cooling on the surface of the photovoltaic panel). The panels were installed in a metallic structure, 1 meter away from the ground, on a lawn. For the construction of the cooling system, a submerged pump was used, which pumps water from a 500 liter reservoir to the top of a panel and distributes it evenly over the entire surface, returning it without any waste to the reservoir. The experiments were carried out from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (h) over several days, observing the solar incidence, during the month of January 2020. The average inclination used throughout the year was of 28.0°. With the cooling system, it was possible to reduce an average of approximately 22 °C in relation to a conventional photovoltaic panel system, with this temperature reduction, gains in the generated power and efficiency were obtained, reaching up to 15.08 W and 1, 61%, respectively. Therefore, the continuous water cooling system and with an inclination of 28 ° is efficient in reducing the temperature of the photovoltaic panels, consequently in increasing the yield and efficiency.Este trabajo presenta una metodología para la generación de energía solar a través del sistema fotovoltaico, detallando sus componentes y demostrando su eficiencia, siendo una de las principales razones de la reducción de su eficiencia las altas temperaturas de operación. El objetivo es analizar la influencia de la temperatura en una placa fotovoltaica de 150 Watt (W) y producir un sistema de enfriamiento continuo utilizando agua como fluido refrigerante (proporcionando enfriamiento en la superficie de la placa fotovoltaica). Las placas se instalaron en una estructura metálica, a 1 metro del suelo, sobre un césped. Para la construcción del sistema de refrigeración se utilizó una bomba sumergida, la cual bombea agua desde un depósito de 500 litros hasta la parte superior de una placa y la distribuye uniformemente por toda la superficie, devolviéndola sin desperdicio al depósito. Los experimentos se realizaron de 9:00 am a 4:00 pm (h) durante varios días, observando la incidencia solar, durante el mes de enero de 2020. La inclinación promedio utilizada durante todo el año fue de 28.0°. Con el sistema de enfriamiento se logró reducir un promedio aproximado de 22 °C con relación a un sistema de placa fotovoltaica convencional, con esta reducción de temperatura se obtuvieron ganancias en la potencia generada y eficiencia, llegando hasta 15.08 W y 1,61 %, respectivamente. Se concluye que el sistema de refrigeración continuo por agua y con una inclinación de 28° es eficiente en la reducción de la temperatura de las placas fotovoltaicas, consecuentemente en el aumento del rendimiento y la eficiencia.Este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia para geração de energia solar através do sistema fotovoltaico, detalhando seus componentes e demostrando sua eficiência, sendo que um dos principais motivos de redução em sua eficiência são as elevadas temperaturas de operação. Como objetivo pretende-se analisar a influência da temperatura em uma placa fotovoltaica de 150 Watts (W) e produzir um sistema de resfriamento contínuo utilizando água como fluido de resfriamento (propiciando arrefecimento na superfície da placa fotovoltaica). As placas foram instaladas em uma estrutura metálica, afastada a 1 metro do chão, sobre um gramado. Para a construção do sistema de resfriamento foi utilizado uma bomba submersa, que bombeia a água de um reservatório de 500 litros, até o topo de uma placa e distribui uniformemente sobre toda a superfície, retornando a mesma sem nenhum desperdício, para o reservatório. Os experimentos foram realizados no período das 9:00 às 16:00 horas (h) ao longo de diversos dias, observando-se a incidência solar, durante o mês de janeiro de 2020. A inclinação média utilizada ao longo do ano foi de 28,0 °. Com o sistema de resfriamento conseguiu-se reduzir uma média de aproximadamente 22 °C em relação a um sistema de placa fotovoltaica convencional, com essa redução da temperatura obteve-se ganhos na potência gerada e eficiência que chegaram até 15,08 W e 1,61 %, respectivamente. Conclui-se que o sistema de resfriamento contínuo com água e com inclinação de 28 ° é eficiente na redução da temperatura das placas fotovoltaicas, consequentemente no aumento do rendimento e eficiência

    The objective of this work was describe the academic community perception about the solid waste management at the Universidade Federal do Paraná Coast Section, located in the city of Matinhos, in the coast side of the state of Paraná. The study showed concepts like sustainability; environmental management; public policies and solid waste management so it can help the analysis. The study is justified due to the complexity in meeting the requirements for waste management in a dynamic environment such as a university campus, in such a way that they are reflected in the routines of its academic community. In addition to the practical justification, sustainability in the HEI is a field of study that has been expanding at international and national levels. The applied methodologies were quantitative and descriptive, once it tried to demonstrate the environmental perceptions of students, administrative staff and professors from the Section. One of the obtained results was that the academic community knows that there are trash cans for selective gathering but they say they usually don’t use them correctly. The researched public haven’t shown knowledge and involvement in practices for sustainability inside universities. Conclusions indicate that in order to academic community would be a society change agent, some education actions and environmental awareness are needed, as well as wide promotion of the UFPR Sustainable Logistic Plan.O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever a percepção da comunidade acadêmica a respeito da gestão de resíduos sólidos no Setor Litoral da Universidade Federal do Paraná, localizado no município de Matinhos, no litoral do Estado. O artigo apresentou conceitos como sustentabilidade, gestão ambiental, políticas públicas e gestão de resíduos sólidos para articular as perspectivas de análise. O estudo realizado justifica-se devido à complexidade no atendimento dos requisitos para a gestão de resíduos em um ambiente dinâmico como um campus universitário, de tal modo que se reflitam nas rotinas de sua comunidade acadêmica. Além da justificativa prática, a sustentabilidade nas IES é um campo de estudo que vem se ampliando em âmbito internacional e nacional. A metodologia aplicada foi de natureza quantitativa e descritiva, uma vez que visou retratar de forma extensiva a percepção ambiental de estudantes, técnico-administrativos e docentes do Setor. Entre os resultados obtidos está que a comunidade acadêmica percebe a existência das lixeiras para a separação de resíduos, mas declara que nem sempre faz o descarte correto dos rejeitos. O público analisado também não demonstrou conhecer e estar envolvido com as práticas para a sustentabilidade nas Instituições de Ensino Superior. As conclusões indicam que, para que a comunidade acadêmica possa ser um agente de mudanças na sociedade, se faz necessária a promoção de ações de educação e sensibilização ambiental, assim como a ampla divulgação do Plano de Logística Sustentável da UFPR
