AI support for multilingual students' learning in high school : A Design Thinking study of AI-based functionality in a digital tool
This paper aims to contribute insights into the implementation of AI-based support tools in a multilingual school context, and how such tools can be optimized to improve both students' and teachers' experience when using them [10]. During the spring semester of 2025, the study was conducted at a Swedish upper secondary school, based on the Design Thinking method [1]. The study is a collaboration between an EdTech provider and the upper secondary school's introduction programs, where my role as customer manager in the Nordic market has been central to coordinating the development work, prototyping, and the interaction between the company's technical team and the users at the school through close collaboration with the school's ICT educator. Through observations, interviews, user data, and surveys, the study has identified how students and teachers use the language button in classroom situations, as well as the challenges and opportunities that arise when implementing an AI-based tool. The results show that teachers experience reduced workload and increased time for individual student support, while students can discreetly handle language-related challenges, thereby strengthening their subject understanding and participation. The study highlights the importance of technical stability, user-friendliness, and overcoming negative attitudes towards AI-based aids. This insight is crucial for the future implementation and further development of similar digital pedagogical tools
Optimizing Pre-assembly Line Efficiency Using Lean Principles : A Case Study at Volvo CE
In today’s manufacturing landscape, the demand for increased flexibility, efficiency, and product variety is driving a shift toward more modular and adaptive production systems. To meet these challenges, companies are exploring ways to streamline operations. The goal is to eliminate inefficiencies without compromising quality. This study investigates how Lean Production principles can support that transformation through a case study at Volvo Construction Equipment. The focus is on a newly implemented pre-assembly line and applies a deductive methodology combining interviews, 3M observations, Spaghetti Diagram, and time studies. The results highlight recurring sources of waste, including motion, ergonomic strain, and workload imbalances. Based on the findings, improvement proposals are presented: merging three stations into two to balance workload, repositioning material façades to reduce motion waste, and introducing standardized quality checks between stations. These suggestions are grounded in Lean principles such as Heijunka, Jidoka, and 5S, and aim to enhance both efficiency and quality assurance. The study contributes practical insight into how Lean tools can be adapted to complex, low-volume, and high-variation production environments. It also highlights the importance of integrating operator feedback and ergonomic considerations into continuous improvement efforts.I dagens tillverkningsindustri driver kraven på ökad flexibilitet, effektivitet och produktvariation en övergång mot mer modulära och adaptiva produktionssystem.
Competing Logics within a Cooperative : A Study on How Competing Logics Are Managed in a Cooperative Organization
Background: The study examines the cooperative Södra and its challenges in managing competing logics, particularly the tension between member influence and business demands. With over 52,000 members, Södra operates in a complex environment where decisions must support both sustainability and the members economic interests. The Södra profit-sharing model has sparked debate over value distribution. Previous cases show that cooperatives can fail due to weak engagement or poor leadership. The study therefore focuses on how Södra manages member logic and business logic in a competitive market. Purpose: The purpose is to examine how a cooperative enterprise manages competing logics and organizational tensions, as well as the strategies and control mechanisms used. The focus is on how member influence and business logic can be managed to achieve long-term sustainability and stability. Method: The study has been conducted within the forest industry group Södra. It is based on a qualitative case study with an abductive approach. Data collection has been carried out through semi-structured interviews with employees, complemented by documents and annual reports for triangulation. Conclusion: The study shows how the cooperative Södra manages conflicting logics through a combination of institutional strategies and management control tools. Södra adapts its budgeting based on business areas and uses KPIs to both monitor operations and communicate its values. The Södramodel for profit-sharing balances member benefits and long-term competitiveness. The study revealed that business logic and member logic are not always conflicting but can interact, and that Södra does not use decoupling but instead integrates logics through open communication and tailored control systems. In doing so, Södra creates legitimacy and long-term sustainability without compromising any logic
Facilitating co-design among older adults in a digital setting : methodological challenges and opportunities
Healthy ageing is a global priority due to a growing older population, which increases the need for preventive measures and tailored technology. In health technology development, co-design is emphasised as a valuable strategy to support a person-centred approach. Co-design, a value-driven and collaborative approach, involves end users in development processes to overcome barriers connected to capability, opportunity, and motivation. While a growing number of older adults are involved in design processes, there is a deficit of suitable methodologies for achieving active involvement. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a shift to developing methodological skills and tools to facilitate co-design remotely in a digital setting. Here, we draw on experiences of conducting iterative co-design workshops with a Canadian and a Swedish cohort of older adults about technology development to support mobility, balance, and confidence in daily movement. We describe and discuss methodological and ethical challenges and opportunities to provide recommendations for conducting co-design research in a digital setting with older adults (+65 years). Our recommendations include the use of live mind mapping to facilitate participation involvement, and we address the issue of 'homework' in co-design and the importance of setting expectations
Sustainable human movements - a threshold concept with potential to open up new perspectives in physiotherapy
There is a call to action for physiotherapists worldwide to contribute to the transition towards 'sustainable health'. In this paper, we build upon the current definition of 'sustainable health' and also on 'sustainable physical activity' to introduce and theoretically substantiate the concept of sustainable human movements, and suggest a definition thereof. Sustainable human movements will be described as a threshold concept with three aligned critical concepts; (i) movement control, including forces as causes of emerging movements, (ii) movement quality, referring to how movements are performed in terms of optimisation, and (iii) physical literacy, including motivation, confidence and physical competence. A deep understanding of these concepts, combined with a collaboration and learning approach applied together with the patient, is proposed to enable a sustainable human movement approach to permeate physiotherapy theory and practice. To facilitate this, a generic and easily accessible tool has recently been developed. It combines support for structured observational movement analysis and pedagogical support for creating a mutual and extended understanding of a patient's lived experience. This encourages the patient to become actively involved and take responsibility for promoting his/her 'sustainable health'. The aims of this paper are to a) suggest a theoretical framework for and definition of the concept sustainable human movements, and b) introduce a clinical tool that ultimately aims at promoting sustainable movements and health.Säker i varje steg 2.
Multiwavelength study of OT 081 : broadband modelling of a transitional blazar
OT 081 is a well-known, luminous blazar that is remarkably variable in many energy bands. We present the first broadband study of the source, which includes very high energy (VHE, E _ 100 GeV) γ-ray data taken by the MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov telescopes) and H.E.S.S. (High Energy Stereoscopic System) imaging Cherenkov telescopes. The discovery of VHE γ-ray emission happened during a high state of gamma-ray activity in July 2016, observed by many instruments from radio to VHE γ-rays. We identify four states of activity of the source, one of which includes VHE γ-ray emission. Variability in the VHE domain is found on daily time-scales. The intrinsic VHE spectrum can be described by a power law with index 3 . 27 +/- 0.44stat +/- 0.15sys (MAGIC) and 3 . 39 +/- 0.58stat +/- 0.64sys (H.E.S.S.) in the energy range of 55-300 and 120-500 GeV, respectively. The broadband emission cannot be successfully reproduced by a simple one-zone synchrotron self-Compton model. Instead, an additional external Compton component is required. We test a lepto-hadronic model that reproduces the data set well and a proton-synchrotron-dominated model that requires an extreme proton luminosity. Emission models that are able to successfully represent the data place the emitting region well outside of the broad-line region to a location at which the radiative environment is dominated by the infrared thermal radiation field of the dusty torus. In the scenario described by this flaring activity, the source appears to be a flat spectrum radio quasar (FSRQ), in contrast with past categorizations. This suggests that the source can be considered to be a transitional blazar, intermediate between BL Lac and FSRQ objects
“We Are All Someone’s Monster” : A literary analysis of Six of Crows and a discussion of how trauma and disability theory could be used in a classroom context
This thesis explores the portrayal of trauma and disability in the young adult novel Six of Crows with a focus on the characters Kaz Brekker and Inej Ghafa. Through the combined use of trauma theory, disability theory and reader-response theory, this thesis analyses how the novel represents common literary stereotypes regarding trauma and disability and aims to encourage students to connect to the characters. The study finds that Bardugo’s depiction of trauma aligns closely with established literary conventions. However, the portrayal of disability notably challenges the normative tropes which exist in literature. In addition to the literary analysis, the thesis considers the pedagogical implications of these themes and proposes strategies for educators to use. This is to foster reading motivation via a fast-paced plot and character identificatio
Babel beneath the stars : The style and form of Fantasy in Karin Tidbecks Minnesteatern/The memory Theater
”You end up doing the document rather than doing the doing” skrev Sara Ahmed, 2007 (Nyström Höög, 2015).
“Don’t You Wish You Were Here?” : An Analysis of Queer Representation in T.J. Klune’s “The House in the Cerulean Sea” and Promoting Understanding of Gender Constructs in the EFL Classroom
Kindström iiAbstractThis essay investigates the representation of queer experiences and heteronormativity in thenovel The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune, utilizing a queer critical lens. Throughanalysis of allegorical and narratological aspects of the novel, the essay finds that queerperspectives and institutionalized discrimination are recurring themes and that positive queerrepresentation is provided through the lens of a queer utopia. As the LGBTQ+ movementcontinues to face and combat public and statutory persecution, both internationally and inSweden, practicing teachers may hesitate to introduce critical perspectives on gender in theclassroom. Conversely, this essay argues that incorporation of contemporary fantasy in theEnglish as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom, in conjunction with queer pedagogy, mayprovide scaffolding for students in thinking and critically discussing complex ideas of genderidentity and sexual orientation. Additionally, this essay argues that the novel provides a lessconfrontational arena for discussing and combating discriminatory language within the EFLclassroom
