    Kronprins Gustaf Adolf : Life and Death on a Swedish Man-of-war in the Late 18th Century

    This essay is a historical examination of living conditions in the Swedish Royal Navy during the latter half of the 18th century. The scholarly consensus is that Swedish seamen of this period lived under substandard conditions. Poor food quality and non-existing hygiene created a breeding ground for disease. These hardships are often attributed to negligence on part of the officers, particularly their reluctance to issue fresh meat and vegetables, despite the benefits being well known. However, examining period sources, in the form of ships logs, diaries and muster rolls, paints a different picture. Accordning my research, the navy clearly prioritized the health of its personnel. Crews were issued with fresh provisions as often as opportunity allowed, which ensured that they were well fed. This, combined with the issuing of scurvy-preventing sauerkraut, kept disease to a minimum under normal circumstances. All adds to giving a far more nuanced image of the living conditions in the navy than what is typical in the scholarly world.

    Reimagining Fashion : Silhouetttes & Speculative Trends

    This project explores how participatory workshops can foster reflection and behavior change around fashion consumption and waste. Through a series of hands-on workshops targeting young adults, particularly women, participants reimagine unsellable second-hand garments using unconventional silhouettes and creative constraints. The project uses design as a tool for critical reflection, encouraging participants to question current fashion norms, consumption habits, and the influence of social media. By integrating discussion, storytelling, and experiential learning, the workshops aim to shift perceptions of fashion from disposable to meaningful. The outcome includes a refined workshop structure and a facilitation manual adaptable for educational settings. This manual serves as a resource for educators seeking to engage youth in conversations about sustainability, textile waste, and conscious consumerism. Ultimately, the project advocates for a more mindful and participatory fashion culture that empowers individuals to become active contributors to change

    Mer än mänskligt : Att söka resonans över de skiftande gränserna mellan mänsklighet och djuriskhet

    This project investigates how design can foster new relational systems between human animals and other-than human animals, with a focus on paying attention to the animality within humans with an aim for multispecies’ animality care The central question addressed is: how can we construct a new paradigm for coexistence between humans and animals by designing systems that prioritize collaborative care, empathy, and sustainability? The methodology adopted is metadesign, emphasizing the need for co-creation, embodied practices, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The project is a theoretical inquiry that resulted in a proposal for collaborative engagement like caring exercises, to pay attention to the  animality in us humans, through co-exercising. Furthermore I explored how different knowledge systems—such as Traditional Chinese metaphysics and animal ethics—could inform each other and my design process. The outcomes of this project include a series of interactive practices, and metaphysical tools designed to foster empathy, interdependence, and sustainable care. These tools aim to create transformative experiences that invite participants to reflect on their relationships with “humanity” and “animality”. This process showed how design can seed new practices of relational sustainability that move beyond anthropocentric paradigms, and how design can be a catalyst for change by fostering mutual care and shared responsibility across species

    Crtl + Alt + Ignite : A digital accessability toolkit

     This project investigates how designers can challenge ableist design paradigms through the lens of the social model of disability, advocating for universal design as the standard practice rather than a specialized afterthought.   Drawing from historical, cultural, legal, and economic perspectives, the work highlights how digital inaccessibility is a systemic issue rooted in societal norms that devalue disabled people. Through a mixed-methods approach including: research, personal reflection, focus group and a survey of designers, it becomes evident that many designers lack both the knowledge and institutional support to prioritize accessibility in their workflows.   The project responds by creating a website titled Ctrl+Alt+Ignite, designed to educate designers on the concept of ableism, its pervasive impact on design, principles needed to counter it and the practical tools.  With accessible language, exercises, and resources, the site functions as both an entry point and a critical intervention aimed at shifting the mindset from designing for disabled people to designing with disabled people along with an awareness of systemic exclusion. This work ultimately positions accessibility not as a optional task, but as an ethical, political, and design imperative

    PESI-LCA in Building Manufacturing : A Triple-Bottom-Line Framework for Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment in the Built Environment

    Traditional Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) emphasizes environmental impacts but often omits critical social and economic dimensions, limiting its capacity for holistic sustainability evaluation in the construction sector. This paper introduces the PESI-LCA framework (Product Environmental and Social Impact Life Cycle Assessment), which integrates environmental, social, and economic metrics into a structured, industry-ready method for comprehensive life cycle sustainability assessment. Drawing on 38 interviews across two European companies involved in building manufacturing, this study compares LCA adoption and outcomes. Company Y, applying PESI-LCA, reduced CO₂ emissions by ≈15%, improved energy efficiency by 10%, and achieved ≈8% cost savings through sustainable sourcing and process optimization. In contrast, Company X, lacking a structured LCA approach, failed to realize similar gains. The PESI-LCA framework extends LCA's utility in building manufacturing by identifying synergies across the triple bottom line and enabling alignment with emerging policy standards such as the EU Green Deal and CSRD. The findings also highlight the role of digital tools, such as AI-based tracking and supply chain analytics, as key enablers for broader PESI-LCA adoption within construction engineering contexts.

    Just ask ChatGPT! : A study on university students' use of generative AI from a MIL perspective

    The aim of this study was to gain an understanding of how generative AI tools affect students' information behavior, such as seeking information, assessing information and picking out information. We wanted to understand the students' own perspectives on their information seeking behavior in relation to AI-tools and therefore be able to understand their strengths and areas of improvement. We considered this an important area to study as the use of generative AI-tools in Swedish universities has seen an increase since the release of ChatGPT in 2022 and with it dishonest use of the tool. This was a qualitative study and the data came from a series of semi-structured interviews that was done with six university students who had used generative AI-tools before in their studies. Two theories were used to analyze the data, Säljö’s sociocultural theory and Rogers’ diffusion of innovation theory. Sociocultural theory was the primary theory and the diffusion of innovation theory was used as a way of deepening the understanding of how students' outlook on new technology affects their use of said technology. Sociocultural theory showed how the students learned to use these tools, with the focus on how they used it for information seeking. The study shows that students are aware of how to apply previous knowledge on how to assess information on the information produced by AI-tools, but their understanding of AI-tools in an academic setting was mostly formed by other students and that there is a lack of clear guidance and therefore guidelines for the students to follow

    Variegated accountability : The social construction of accountability in public collaboration projects

    Over the past few decades, accountability has become a central concept in the study of the public sector. However, the concept has proven to be difficult to translate into various situations, considering the diverse ways in which accountability is constructed. Previous literature has provided insight of this diverse concept, as well as highlighting the importance of the accountability context. The present thesis focuses on exploring how accountability is constructed in public collaboration projects by turning to the process of people constructing relationships. Thus, the study goes beyond the concept itself to examine the different aspects of constructing accountability relationships within the context of collaborative dynamics.The empirical study focuses on three cases of collaboration projects initiated by county administrative boards and regions in Sweden. All three collaboration projects address societal and environmental problems, also known as "wicked problems". Despite having limited resources, these projects are driven by individuals who share their knowledge and enthusiasm. By examining the activities involved in 'collaboration work', the study illustrates how accountability is intertwined with context, expectations and engagement.By acknowledging the multifaceted process of constructing accountability, the analysis highlights how individuals create an 'accountability space', in which accountability becomes relevant and expressed. Furthermore, this study uses the concept of boundary action to explore how people make sense of accountability and visualise the different actions that contribute to its creation. The concept of boundary action assumes that accountability is created through time and space and is defined by the actions performed by individuals, and how these actions reflect social agreements within the context of the collaboration project. Contrary to previous ideas, these constructions of accountability demonstrate that questions such as 'who', 'what' and 'why' are rarely precise when accountability is constructed. Instead, this work contributes to highlight the asymmetric, dynamic and pluralistic dimensions of the social construction of accountability.     SOVD Integration with Danfoss API : A C++ Prototype for Standardized Vehicle Diagnostics

    This thesis explores how the ASAM SOVD standard can be integrated with the proprietary PLUS+1 API used by Danfoss Power Solutions AB. The goal is to improve interoperability by creating a translator that maps SOVD requests to PLUS+1 API calls. A C++ proof-of-concept localhost server was developed and tested with both simulated and real hardware. The implementation focuses on read-only diagnostic data and supports a key subset of SOVD endpoints. Results show that standardized diagnostics can be layered over existing systems without major changes, offering a practical path toward future-ready diagnostic tools.     Seasonal design : Learning from seasonal interventions: a seasonal designing framework

    Imagine it is a rainy winter day, and you are walking up to a little mustard yellow house on wheels and step up three wooden steps to enter. Some people are sitting around the table. You take a step inside to join and have some tea. While stepping in you hear the splash of a puddle and feel your socks soak up water before you even get your foot back on the doorstep. What just happened? We built the Holding Surplus House to explore relations to resources and today's challenges through a series of seasonal experimentations. These interventions enable physical experiences as a starting point to become aware and engage in discussion about the underlying themes of householding with resources in a holistic way. In this exploratory article we look back at a full cycle of experiments and do so by reflecting on the seasons they were situated in. As a result, we suggest designers to work with relationships between temporality, place and seasonal forces into constantly emerging designs. Furthermore, we introduce the seasonal designing framework as a practical and conceptual response to contemporary grand and complex eco-social challenges and life- long learning.Holding Surplus House, HS
