Suboptimization or adaption? : A qualitative case study on budget management in the Education Department of Växjö Municipality

    No full text
The purpose of this paper is to describe budget management within municipal administrations and to identify and specifically analyze how different forms of suboptimization are manifested, based on its application. In the ongoing discussion surrounding the public sector and its management accounting, concerns are raised regarding how the design of the control systems affects organizational priorities, cooperation and the ability to achieve long-term goals. Although the budget holds a central position within organizations, previous research has shown that it can give rise to unintended effects, such as suboptimization. Several different forms of suboptimization have been identified. Common examples are budget slack, silos and “use it or lose it”, which refers to spending and wasting at the end of the year. A common thread in prior research is that suboptimization often is studied from a managerial perspective. However, there is limited research regarding an user perspective and how budget management can affect decisions on this level. In this study, the users are defined as principals within preschool, elementary school and upper secondary school. Our position is to highlight both consequences and opportunities of public budget management, where the focus is specified on how suboptimization manifests within a municipal administration

    No full text
Sjuksköterskor upplevde ofta frustrationoch bristande utbildning i kommunikationsstrategier.

    No full text

    No full text

Design and Integration of a Relation Extraction Component for Adverse Drug Events Detection in Swedish Clinical Notes

    No full text
Medications are essential for health care but can cause adverse drug events (ADEs), which are harmful and sometimes fatal. ADEs are often not documented in structured data of electronic health record (EHR) or explicitly written in clinical notes. Detecting them requires advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, including Named Entity Recognition (NER) and Relation Extraction (RE). This is particularly challenging in Swedish clinical text, where compound words, non-contiguous phrases representing a single concept are common and not well-supported by standard models. This study aims to fine-tune the SwedClin-BERT model for relation extraction which will work with the compound words (split entities), integrate it with an existing medical named entity recognition pipeline, and build an end-to-end ADE detection pipeline capable of operating at both the sentence and document level. Finally, the study intends to evaluate the performance of the RE component, and integrated NER-RE pipeline through controlled experiments on annotated clinical data from the Geriatric Clinic in Kalmar. Three experiments were conducted: (1) 5-fold cross-validation of the RE component using annotated relation data with stratified splits for split entities on 850 clinical notes; (2) document-level ADE classification using the integrated NER-RE pipeline on 255 annotated notes; and (3) generalization of NER-RE pipeline testing on 1200 unannotated labeled The RE model achieved a macro-avergae F1-score of 0.91 in cross-validation. The full pipeline reached 100% agreement with the ground truth on the annotated dataset but showed limited generalizability on the unannotated dataset (F1: 77.47%, specificity: 41.45%), primarily due to error propagation from NER model. The proposed NER-RE pipeline enhances ADE detection performance in structured evaluation but suffers from low specificity on broader datasets due to biased training data. Future work should focus on diversifying data sources and revising the annotation rules to enhance model robustness

Att leva med endometrios : - en kvalitativ litteraturstudie

    No full text

Relationship Between Early and Maximal Isometric Upper-Body Push and Pull Force Production Among Elite Female and Male Swedish Track and Field Throwers

    No full text
Maximal and explosive strength—defined as the ability to rapidly generate high levels of force—are widely recognized as critical for performance in strength–power sports such as track and field throwing. However, their interrelationship remains insufficiently examined, particularly in the upper body of elite athletes. This study examined the relationship between early force production (≤250 ms, subdivided into early phase: 0–100 ms; late phase: 100–250 ms) and peak isometric upper-body push and pull force in elite Swedish track and field throwers. A total of 30 athletes (17 females, 13 males; aged 18–34 years), all competing nationally or internationally in discus, hammer, shot put, or javelin, participated in a cross-sectional assessment. Isometric force was measured during bench press (push) and supine bench row (pull) using a custom-built device. Force output was recorded at 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 ms, along with peak force. The results showed a progressive increase in the correlation between force at early time points and peak force. Associations were weak to moderate at 50–100 ms (r = 0.07–0.55) and became strong to very strong at 150–250 ms (r = 0.64–0.92). These patterns were consistent across sexes and test types. The findings suggest that maximal strength becomes increasingly important as force production time extends beyond 100 ms. Coaches may benefit from assessing both early and peak force characteristics to inform strength profiling and guide training focus, though further research is needed to determine their impact on performance

Threads of Memory : Building Emotional Attachment Through Clothing Narratives

    No full text
In the context of fast fashion and a culture of disposability, clothing is often stripped of its emotional and material value. This thesis explores how storytelling can serve as a design strategy to enhance deeper emotional connections between people and their garments, with the aim of extending the lifespan of clothing and encouraging more mindful consumption. Through a combination of participatory design methods, workshops, and material experimentation, this project investigates how personal narratives influence the way individuals perceive, value, and engage with their clothing. The outcome is the development of StoryTag, a physical, open-ended tagging system that invites wearers to document and share the stories behind their garments. Rooted in a meta-design framework, the project does not propose a fixed product, but a system that can grow, adapt, and be shared across different contexts such as clothing swaps, secondhand spaces, or personal wardrobes. By embedding storytelling directly into the garments themselves, the project aims to disrupt the cycle of fast fashion by reintroducing care, memory, and personal meaning into the everyday act of dressing

Bridge in Process : Rethinking the Buddy Program as a System for Intercultural Engagement

    No full text
In recent years, a growing number of students have chosen to study abroad for higher education. Universities face increasing demands to provide not only excellent academic education, but also foster socially sustainable environments that encourage intercultural engagement and inclusion, and many universities have created programs that help international students adjust to their new environment. At Linnaeus University, initiatives like the Buddy Program are structured to support international students to integrate into Swedish society and academic life. Many of them still face challenges in the form of language barriers, social integration and limited interaction with local peers. These challenges not only affect their educational experiences while studying abroad, but also raise concerns about the long-term effectiveness and sustainability of such support structures. To address these gaps, this design project employed a service design framework, combining intercultural adaptation theory (Kim, 2001), Max-Neef’s Human Scale Development model (1991), and interdisciplinary design principles (Klein, 2010) . The result was a proposed systemic Buddy Program journey map composed of multiple touchpoints generated through a co-creation workshop involving both international and local students. Among these touchpoints, a key digital interactive social map platform was designed to visualise student-generated social opportunities, in order to facilitate sustained and meaningful intercultural relationships. By integrating theory and practice, this project indicates the value of interdisciplinary, user-centered and participatory design approaches in designing socially sustainable interventions in higher education. This research promotes the discussion around sustainable development in education, aligning with United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, and offers actionable recommendations for institutional changes and long-term community resilience
