Supporting caregivers : Professional Collaboration in Providing Support to Caregivers of People with Dementia

    No full text
The aim of this study is to develop an understanding of and analyze how  different professionals interpret their roles, responsibilities, and collaboration in the provision of caregiver support in the context of dementia, as well as to examine how communicative and organizational factors may influence this collaboration. The study is based on a qualitative method involving eight semi-structured interviews with professionals from four municipalities in southern Sweden. The collected material was analyzed using thematic analysis. The results show that the professionals view caregiver support as a shared responsibility, although their specific areas of responsibility differ clearly. Collaboration varies across municipalities and is influenced by limited knowledge of each other’s roles, resource constraints, and restricted information exchange between the professions. The study highlights the need for clearer collaboration routines, joint meetings, and early professional interventions for caregivers throughout the course of the illness. Future research should focus on how a more equitable and cohesive system of caregiver support can be developed and how caregivers’ participation in collaborative processes can be strengthened

The purpose of this study is to create a deeper understanding of how preschool teachers reason about their planning for heart-rate-increasing physical activity in children aged 4–6 years in the preschool's outdoor environment. The background to the study is that heart-rate-increasing physical activity has taken a greater place in the revised preschool curriculum. The preschool teacher has been given a clearer responsibility for giving children the opportunity for heart-rate-increasing physical activity. The study was conducted using a qualitative method where semi-structured interviews were used as the data collection method. The selection was based on preschools with different profiles to enable a broader perspective. The collected empirical data was transcribed and analyzed by categorizing similarities and variations in the preschool teachers' statements. The results showed that all preschool teachers see heart-rate-increasing physical activity as important for children's well-being, development and learning, especially in relation to health and concentration. At the same time, variations emerged in the degree of planned heart-rate-increasing physical activity. Some preschools work systematically with recurring planned activities, while others relied more on spontaneous movement opportunities. The commitment of preschool teachers, the organizational conditions of the activities and the design of the outdoor environment emerged as decisive factors for children's opportunities for heart-pumping physical activity in preschool

The aim of this study was to examine and analyze readers’ subjective experiences of reading and the perceived relationship between reading and well-being from a bibliotherapeutic perspective. The central research question concerned how readers’ experiences of reading were connected to their sense of well-being. The study used a phenomenological approach and a thematic analysis. The methodology included diary-assisted reading structured in three phases (before, during, and after), followed by semi-structured interviews. The sample consisted of five female participants. The results indicated that participants generally experienced a positive impact on their well-being, driven by motives related to relaxation, personal time andpositive emotions. The different stages of the bibliotherapeutic three-step model, such as identification, catharsis, and insight, were clearly reflected in the findings. Both identificatory and self-forgetful reading were prominent. The conclusion from this study indicates that reading can ba an important tool for well-being.

Does the media judge perpetrators in advance? : A quantitative content analysis of Expressen’s reporting on the Tova case and the Tove murder

    No full text
This study examines how the Swedish tabloid newspaper Expressen represents perpetrators in two high-profile murder cases, with particular focus on gender differences and whether the presentation differs depending on the legal process. The research aims to investigate how perpetrators are portrayed, whether representations differ depending on gender, how portrayals vary before and after court verdicts, and the extent to which personal information is published. In doing so, the framing theory and gender theory are applied.  A quantitative content analysis is conducted on 176 articles covering the Tova and Tove murder cases. The analysis codes for a range of framing variables, including depictions of violence, psychological instability, criminality, suspect and other personal attributes. Furthermore, it includes variables on personal information such as name, age, place of residence, relationship to the victim, and other personal information. Coverage of male and female perpetrators is compared, and changes across different phases of the judicial process.  Results show that all perpetrators are consistently framed as criminal and violent, however the male perpetrator is depicted as more violent and criminal than the female perpetrators, both before and after verdicts. Psychological instability appears minimally, suggesting that Expressen prioritizes the criminal and violence portrayals over nuanced characterizations. The label “suspect” is heavily used before verdicts, which may contribute to early positioning. After verdicts, all perpetrators are primarily framed as criminals, reflecting their established guilt.  The male perpetrator’s background and contextual information are highlighted more than the females’, reflecting previous research indicating that men’s violent acts are often rationalized. Name publication occurs exclusively after verdicts, in accordance with ethical guidelines, while other personal details appear frequently, potentially reinforcing the link between the perpetrator’s identity and their actions.  Overall, the findings indicate that Expressen’s reporting reproduces gendered stereotypes and moralizing news frames. The study highlights how media framing contributes to shaping the public's perceptions of crime and reinforces social constructions of gender and criminality.

"Vem tar ansvar?"

Previous research shows that intimate partner violence often coexists with substance abuse, where alcohol and drug use both function as coping strategies and increase women’s vulnerability. At the same time, increased specialization within social services has created organizational boundaries that may lead to fragmented support, causing women with complex needs to risk falling between services. This underscores the need for deeper knowledge about how social workers manage these boundaries and how this affects their discretionary power. The aim of this study was to describe and understand how social workers in substance abuse units exercise discretion in cases involving simultaneous substanceabuse and suspected exposure to violence. The study also explores this practice as forms of boundary work within a specialized welfare system. Using a qualitive approach, eight social workers from municipal substance abuse units in different Swedish municipalities were interviewed.  The analysis is based on Lipskys (2010) concept of discretion and the concept of boundary work (Liljegren 2008). The results show that violence among women with substance abuse shapes social worker’s professional pre-understanding. While manual-based methods are used to identify violence they are often insufficient, making professional judgement and relationship-building central to disclosure. The result further indicate that smaller municipalities offer more integrated support while larger municipalities are more specialized which requires social workers to navigate organizational boundaries to ensure coherent support

Mobile-Recorded Video Journalism : The Format’s Impact on the Perceived Experience of Video-Based News

    No full text
This paper examines news consumers’ perceptions of mobile-recorded footage in vertical format within television news broadcasts. The focus lies on perceptions of credibility and overall impression. The study employs a qualitative methodology in the form of focus groups, comprising a total of three groups with five to six participants in each group. The theoretical framework is grounded in Social credibility theory and Reception theory, with particular emphasis on the Encoding/Decoding model. This study’s findings have been compiled and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results indicate that news consumers hold distinct opinions regarding the use of vertically oriented, mobile-recorded footage in television news. According to the participants, the format influences how viewers perceive a television news segment, both in terms of overall impression and perceived credibility. There are instances in which the format enhances the viewing experience and the sense of credibility, as well as contexts in which it is perceived to detract from them. The participants’ views are, by their own accounts, shaped by a range of factors. Among which are the increased sense of authenticity associated with the format, as well as the perceived risk of manipulation. These two are considered particularly significant. The stimulus material used in this paper consists solely of content from a single source, the Swedish public broadcaster called SVT. For context, SVT is a large, independent, and tax-funded media organization with an independent position in relation to the state, political actors, and commercial interests. Through its broad and diverse output, it plays a key role in promoting democracy, public education, critical thinking, and diversity. Its position within Swedish society is essentially institutionalized. Consequently, the application of Social credibility theory allows for an analysis of participants´ statements in relation to their pre-existing perceptions of the source’s credibility. The application of Reception theory provides an opportunity to better understand why participants interpret the material in specific ways. Drawing on Encoding/Decoding theory, the findings demonstrate that context plays a crucial role in how viewers experience mobile-recorded footage in news broadcasts. This study contributes updated research to a scientific field that remains relatively underexplored. The findings are relevant to news consumers by fostering greater awareness of how the media’s use of mobile formats influences thoughts and feelingsregarding perceived credibility and engagement. Similarly, the results are of relevance to journalists and other media practitioners

    No full text

How school-age educare enables student influence : An interview study on how teachers in school-age educare interpret and implement the concept in their practice

    No full text
I studienintervjuades sex legitimerade fritidshemslärare i olika delar i södra Sverige.
