    Modification of wood surfaces with nanomaterials having hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties

    Surface modification of wood materials covers various methods to increase durability, performance, aesthetics and lifespan. These techniques, which are widely used in areas such as furniture, structural wood and decoration, are further developed with the innovations offered by nanotechnology. In particular, nanotechnology offers an effective solution in creating stain-proof and hygienic surfaces by applying hydrophobic coatings to wood surfaces, preventing water permeation and extending their lifespan. In this study, three different nanocoating solutions (AS-54, HL-31 and SH-5) were created to increase the hydrophobic properties of wood surfaces and applied to Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), Turkish beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) and cedar (Cedrus libani A. Rich.) wood species. Then, color, gloss, contact angle (wettability) and FTIR tests of the coated surfaces were performed. Experimental results show that SH-5 nano solution synthesis applied to oriental beech samples gives the best result with a contact angle of 103,51 degrees, creating a hydrophobic (water repellent) and stain-resistant surface.     Benefits and Challenges of Propolis in Active Packaging: A Review

    Propolis is a resinous hive product commonly used in alternative and complementary medicine. With its high potential as natural antimicrobial and antioxidant complex, propolis can be used as a bio preservative. Propolis is regarded as a good alternative to synthetic preservatives. However, its physical properties associated with the lack of knowledge concerning its bioavailability can be considered as limited factors to its use in food industry. In addition, propolis possesses also a strong odour and can affect the quality and sensory of some food products. In the last recent years, the potential use of propolis in active packaging has been largely investigated. Propolis was reported to have better performance in the reduction of oxidation and prevention of microbial contamination. In addition, propolis had gained wide acceptance as food supplement in various countries. This review summarizes current literature on the different potential strategies for incorporating propolis into active packaging and its benefits and challenges. The review also addresses disadvantages and limitations such as chemical variability and its impact on the standardisation of propolis. The potential sensory alteration in packaged food is also discussed. Despite all the limitations, propolis is regarded as a valuable and effective multifunctional material for developing innovative active packaging solutions. Further research to enhance propolis bioavailability, standardise the propolis extract and mask its sensory alteration are in need and can help to better exploit propolis application in food industry

    Enhanced energy storage performance in oxygen-deficient Ca0.28Ba0.72Nb2O6-based tungsten bronze ceramics

    The development of high-power technology and modern electronic devices imposes stringent demands on the energy storage performance of capacitors. Achieving an optimal balance between polarization and dielectric breakdown strength is essential for improving energy storage density. This study proposes a strategy to enhance polarization without compromising dielectric breakdown strength by deliberately introducing defects. In this context, a series of non-stoichiometric Ca0.7Ba1.5La0.2Nb5- xFexO15- delta ceramics were prepared. Investigations into the structure and electrical behavior suggested that defects did not stabilize ferroelectricity, rather, they served as sources of random fields and incommensurate modulation structure that enhanced the relaxor behavior. Nevertheless, defects introduced additional polarization, and contributed to the asymmetry of the P-E loops and the fluctuation of the polarization response at high temperature/frequency. Furthermore, the maintenance of high BDS is attributed to the trapping of carriers by defects and the improvement of electrical homogeneity, which is confirmed by defect analysis and complex impedance spectroscopy. As a result, a releasable energy density of 3.42 J/cm3 and an efficiency of 86.23 % are obtained in defect-rich Ca0.7Ba1.5La0.2Nb4.875Fe0.125O15- delta ceramics. Meanwhile, a discharge energy density of 2.24 J/cm3 and a power density of 171.97 MW/cm3 are achieved, which also shows excellent stability to the use environment.     Evaluation of noise sources in the marble quarries

    Bu çalışmada, 8 farklı mermer fabrikasında yer alan makinelerin eşdeğer gürültü seviyeleri belirlenmiştir. Gürültü ölçüm sonuçlarına göre gürültü seviyesi en yüksek olan makinelerin A fabrikasında kafa kesme, B fabrikasında trimming; C, E, F ve H fabrikasında S/T; D ve G fabrikasında köprü kesme makinelerinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Mermer fabrikalarında birden fazla makine bir arada çalıştığından dolayı fabrikaların bileşke gürültü değerleri hesaplanmıştır. En yüksek bileşke gürültü değeri A fabrikasında 109,3 dBA olarak tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca fabrikalarda çalışanların 8 saatlik bir iş günü için maruz kaldıkları gürültü seviyeleri (LEX,8h) hesaplanmış ve gürültü yönetmeliğine göre değerlendirilmiştir. Tüm fabrikalarda çalışanların maruz kaldıkları gürültü değerlerinin sınır değeri (LEX,8h=87 dBA) aştığı tespit edilmiştir. Fabrikalar arasında benzer görev yapan makinelerin ortalama eşdeğer gürültü seviyeleri ile kestikleri doğal taşların shore sertlik değerleri ilişkilendirilmiştir. Çoklu ebatlama makinelerinde R2=%99’luk, trimming makinelerinde R2=%99’luk, kafa kesme makinelerinde R2=%98’lik, plaka silim makinelerinde R2=%95’lik, katrak makinelerinde R2=%77’lik, S/T makinelerinde ise R2=%73’lük bir ilişki tespit edilmiştir. Çalışanların gürültünün zararlı etkilerinden korunmaları için çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.In this study, equivalent noise levels of the machines in 8 different marble factories were determined. Based on the noise measurement results, it was determined that the machines with the highest noise levels were head cutting machines in Factory A, trimming machines in Factory B, S/T machines in Factories C, E, F, and H, and bridge cutting machines in Factories D and G. Since multiple machines operate together in marble factories, the composite noise values of the factories have been determined. The highest composite noise value was found to be 109.3 dBA in Factory A. Additionally, the noise levels (LEX,8h) that workers in the factories were exposed to during an 8-hour workday were calculated and evaluated according to noise regulations. It was determined that the noise values exceeded the limit value (LEX,8h=87 dBA) for all workers in the factories. The average equivalent noise levels of machines performing similar tasks among factories were correlated with the shore hardness values of the natural stones they cut. A relationship with R2=%99 for multi-blade cutting machines, R2=%99 for trimming machines, R2=%98 for head cutting machines, R2=%95 for slab polishing machines, R2=%77 for gang saw machines, and R2=%73 for S/T machines was detected.     Monocotyl petaloid geophytes of Kahramanmaraş Province, Türkiye

    Bu çalışma Kahramanmaraş ilinde doğal olarak yayılış gösteren monokotil petaloid geofit taksonlarını tespit etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda alanda 10 familya ve 34 cinse ait 170 petaloid geofit takson tespit edilmiştir. Bu taksonların; 39’u Doğu Akdeniz, 36’sı İran-Turan, 18’i Akdeniz, 4’ü Avrupa-Sibirya fitocoğrafik bölge elementidir. Bu geofit taksonların 40’ı endemik olup endemizm oranı % 23.52’dir. En fazla geofit taksonla temsil edilen familyalar sırasıyla; Amaryllidaceae (42), Asparagaceae (37), Orchidaceae (27), Iridaceae (21), Liliaceae (18), Xanthorrhoeaceae (10), Colchicaceae (9), Araceae (4), Butomaceae (1) ve Ixioliriaceae (1)’dir. En fazla takson içeren cinsler; Allium L. (39), Muscari Mill. (14), Ornithogalum L. (11), Orchis L., Gagea Salisb., Iris L., Crocus L. ve Colchicum L. (9), Asphodeline Reichb. ve Fritillaria L. (8)’dır. Taksonların gövde tipleri; soğan (% 61.17), yumru (% 14.11), rizom (% 13.52) ve korm (% 11.17) olarak tespit edilmiştir. Endemik taksonların IUCN tehlike kategorilerine göre dağılımı; CR (2), EN (3), VU) (4), NT (6), LC (22) ve NE (3) şeklindedir. Çalışma sonucunda elde edilen veriler biyolojik çeşitliliğin korunması, devamlılığı ve yapılacak envanter çalışmalarına katkı sağlayacaktır.This study was carried out to determine the monocotyl petaloid geophytes flora naturally grown in Kahramanmaraş. As a result of 170 taxa belonging to 10 families and 34 genera were determined. The distribution of detected taxa according to phytogeographic regions is as follows; East Mediterranean (39), Irano-Turanien (36), Mediterranean (18), Euro-Siberia (4). The number of endemic taxa is 40 (endemism rate is 23.52%). The families that contain the most taxa in the research area; Amaryllidaceae (42), Asparagaceae (37), Orchidaceae (27), Iridaceae (21), Liliaceae (18), Xanthorrhoeaceae (10), Colchicaceae (9), Araceae (4), Butomaceae (1) and Ixioliriaceae (1). The genera containing the most taxa from the research area; Allium L. (39), Muscari Mill. (14), Ornithogalum L. (11), Orchis L., Gagea Salisb., Iris L., Crocus L. ve Colchicum L. (9), Asphodeline Reichb. and Fritillaria L. (8). Moreover, of all collected taxa, 61.17% were bulbous, 14.11% were tuberous, 13.52% were rhizomous and 11.17% were cormous. Distribution of endemic taxa according to IUCN criteria; CR (2), EN (3), VU (4), NT (6), LC (22) and NE (3) categories. The results will contribute to the protection and continuity of biological diversity and inventory studies

    Investigation of the effects of buckwheat flour substitution on the physical, chemical and sensory properties of bread

    Bu çalışma, karabuğday unu ilavesinin ekmek üretiminde kullanımı ve ekmeklerin fiziksel, kimyasal ve duyusal özellikleri üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. %0, %15 ve %30 oranlarında karabuğday unu kullanılarak üretilen ekmeklerin renk, hacim, sertlik, nem, kül, protein içeriği, antioksidan aktivite ve toplam fenolik madde miktarları analiz edilmiştir. Karabuğday unu oranı arttıkça ekmeklerin kabuk ve iç renk değerlerinde değişiklikler gözlenmiştir; iç kısmında L* (aydınlık), a* (kırmızılık) ve b* (sarılık) değerlerinde düşüş olmuştur. Dış renk değerlerinde ise L* azalırken, a* ve b* yükselmiştir. Ekmeklerin hacim, değerleri azalmış, ancak sertlik değerleri artmıştır. Protein içeriği karabuğday unu oranıyla birlikte artmış, antioksidan aktivite ve fenolik madde de benzer şekilde yükselmiştir. Duyusal analizler, karabuğday unu ilavesinin ekmeklerin gözenek yapısı, çiğnenebilirlik, sertlik, renk, lezzet ve genel kabul edilebilirlik üzerinde olumlu etkiler yarattığını göstermiştir.This study investigated the use of buckwheat flour addition in bread production and its effects on the physical, chemical and sensory properties of breads. Bread samples were produced using 0%, 15%, and 30% buckwheat flour, and analyses were conducted to assess their color, volume, hardness, moisture, ash, protein content, antioxidant activity, and total phenolic content. As the proportion of buckwheat flour increased, changes were observed in the crust and crumb color values, with decreases in L* (lightness), a* (redness), and b* (yellowness) values in the crumb. In contrast, for the crust, L* decreased while a* and b* increased. The volume of the bread decreased, but the hardness increased. Protein content rose in conjunction with the buckwheat flour percentage, and both antioxidant activity and phenolic content showed similar increases. Sensory analyses revealed that the addition of buckwheat flour had positive effects on the bread's crumb structure, chewiness, hardness, color, flavor, and overall acceptability

    Holstein sığırlarda OPU/IVEP için donör seçiminde antral folikül sayısının rolü

    The aim of this study was to determine the effect of antral follicle number on oocyte yield and IVEP in Holstein breed donors. The study groups were constituted following ultrasonographic examinations conducted on 23 Holstein heifers at one-week intervals. The Low-AFC group (n = 8) comprised animals with an average antral follicle counts in the ovary of ≤ 15, as determined by ultrasonographic examination. The High-AFC group (n = 9) comprised animals with an average antral follicle number of ≥30. Oocytes were collected from animals in both groups four times, one week apart, any day of the estrous cycle. The oocytes were classified according to their morphological characteristics and subsequently incorporated into the in vitro embryo production process. The total and viable oocyte numbers were found to be significantly greater in the High-AFC group than in the Low-AFC group (P < 0.01). The number of blastocysts obtained per session was also greater in the High-AFC group (P < 0.01). No statistically significant difference was observed between the blastocyst and viable oocyte rates in the two groups. Consequently, oocytes and blastocysts were obtained from Holsetin donors with high antral follicle counts in greater numbers. It was thought that the number of antral follicles in Holstein breed donors could be employed as a parameter in donor animal selection to increase the success of OPU/IVEP.Bu çalışmada Holstein ırkı donörlerde antral folikül sayısının oosit verimine ve in vitro embriyo üretimine etkisinin belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Çalışma grupları 23 baş Holstein ırkı düveye 1 hafta arayla yapılan ultrasonografik muayeneler sonrasında oluşturuldu. Ultrasonografik muayene sonrasında ovaryumundaki ortalama antral folikül sayısı ≤ 15 olan hayvanlar Düşük-AFS grubuna (n=8) alındı. Ortalama antral folikül sayısı ≥ 30 olan hayvanlar ise Yüksek-AFS grubuna (n=9) alındı. Her iki gruptaki hayvanlardan östrüs siklusunun rastgele bir gününde birer hafta arayla 4 kez oosit toplandı. Toplanan oositler morfolojik özelliklerine göre sınıflandırılarak in vitro embriyo üretim sürecine alındı. Toplam ve in vitro embriyo üretimine uygun oosit sayısı Yüksek-AFS grubunda Düşük-AFS grubundan yüksek bulundu (P < 0.01). Seans başına elde edilen blastosist sayısı da Yüksek-AFS grubunda daha fazlaydı (P < 0.01). Blastosist oranı ve in vitro embriyo üretimine uygun oosit oranı iki grup arasında istatistiksel farklılık göstermedi. Sonuç olarak Holstein ırkı donörlerde yüksek antral folikül sayısına sahip hayvanlardan daha fazla sayıda oosit ve blastosist elde edildi. Holstein ırkı donörlerde antral folikül sayısının OPU/IVEP başarısını artırmak için donör hayvan seçiminde bir parametre olarak kullanılabileceği düşünüldü

    Synthesis, characterization and antioxidant properties of poly(dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate-co-methyl methacrylate)/polyindole composites

    Amfifilik ve iletken kompozitler önemli biyomateryaller olarak kabul edilir ve bakteri üremesini etkili bir şekilde engelledikleri için antibakteriyel ajanlar olarak kullanılır. Bu çalışmada; İlk aşamada, hidrofilik monomer 2-dimetilamino etilmetakrilat (DMAEMA) ve hidrofobik monomer metil metakrilattan (MMA) serbest radikal polimerizasyonu kullanılarak amfifilik poli(DMAEMA-ko-MMA) kopolimeri sentezlendi. İkinci aşamada, poli(DMAEMA-ko-MMA) kopolimerinde in situ oksidatif polimerizasyon tekniği kullanılarak demir(III) klorür (FeCl3) varlığında indol (IN) iletken monomeri kullanılarak farklı bileşimlerde kütlece %10, 30, 50, 70 ve 90 poliindol (PIN) içeriğine sahip beş seri kompozit hazırlandı. Polimer kompozitlerin (PC'ler) yapıları FTIR, TGA, SEM, AFM karakterizasyon teknikleri kullanılarak aydınlatıldı. TGA eğrilerinden PC'lerdeki PIN oranı arttıkça kompozitlerin kül bırakma oranının da arttığı görülmüştür. FESEM analizlerinden kompozitlerin homojen olmayan, bulutumsu ve süngerimsi bir yapıya sahip olduğu söylenebilir. AFM analizlerinde kompozitlerin çıplak cam yüzeyinde düzgün, sıkı paketlenmiş ve homojen olmayan bir yapıya sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Kompozitlerin antioksidan özellikleri incelendi. Antioksidan çalışmaları bulguları, kompozitlerde PIN'in oranı arttıkça kompozitlerin antioksidan değerlerinin arttığını gösterdi.Amphiphilic and conductive composites are considered important biomaterials and are used as antibacterial agents because they effectively inhibit bacterial growth. In this study; In the first step, amphiphilic poly(DMAEMA-co-MMA) copolymer was synthesized using free radical polymerization from hydrophilic monomer 2-dimethylamino ethylmethacrylate (DMAEMA) and hydrophobic monomer methyl methacrylate (MMA). In the second stage, five series of composites with polyindole (PIN) contents of 10, 30, 50, 70 and 90% by mass in different compositions were prepared using indole (IN) conductive monomer in the presence of iron(III) chloride (FeCl3) using the in situ oxidative polymerization technique on poly(DMAEMA-co-MMA) copolymer. The structures of polymer composites (PCs) were elucidated using FTIR, TGA, SEM, AFM characterization techniques. From the TGA curves, it was seen that as the PIN ratio in PCs increased, the ash release rate of the composites also increased. From FESEM analysis, it can be said that the composites have a non-homogeneous, cloudy and spongy structure. AFM analyzes showed that the composites had a smooth, tightly packed and non-homogeneous structure on the bare glass surface. The antioxidant properties of the composites were examined. Antioxidant study findings showed that as the ratio of PIN in composites increased, the antioxidant values of the composites increased

    Evaluation of the effect of banana peel waste on the performance of polymer composites

    Bu çalışmada tarımsal atık dolgu malzemesinin ve farklı oranlarının polimer kompozit malzemelerin fiziksel ve mekanik özellikleri üzerindeki etkisi incelendi. Üretilen polimer kompozit numunelerde dolgu malzemesi olarak atık muz kabuğu tozu (MK), matris olarak alev almayan döküm tipi doymamış polyester reçine kullanıldı. Polimer kompozit numunelerin üretiminde %0, %25, %50, %75 ve %100 olmak üzere kontrol grubu (%0) dahil toplamda 5 farklı polimer kompozit numune grubu oluşturuldu. Polimer kompozit numunelerin görünür yoğunluk, su emme, porozite, basınç dayanımı, ultrases geçiş hızı ve UL94 dikey yanma testi özellikleri test edildi. Deneysel sonuçlar incelendiğinde görünür yoğunluk, ultrases geçiş hızı değerlerinde azalma elde edilirken, su emme ve porozite değerlerinde artış görüldü. Ayrıca basınç dayanımı değerlerinde azalma meydana gelirken, tüm numune gruplarının UL94 dikey yanma testinde V0 özellikleri taşıdığı belirlendi. Bu çalışma atık muz kabuklarının polimer kompozitler için potansiyel olarak düşük maliyetli bir dolgu malzemesi olduğunu ve orta mukavemetli ancak hafif malzemeler gerektiren alanlarda kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir.In this study, the effects of agricultural waste filler material and its different ratios on the physical and mechanical properties of polymer composite materials were examine. In the produced polymer composite samples, waste banana peel powder (BP) was used as the filler material, and a flame-retardant castingtype unsaturated polyester resin was used as the matrix. A total of five different polymer composite sample groups, including the control group (0%), were produced for the fabrication of polymer composite samples at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% replacement ratios. The apparent density, water absorption, porosity, compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and UL94 vertical burning test properties of the polymer composite samples were tested. When the experimental results were examined, a decrease in apparent density and ultrasonic pulse velocity values was observed, while an increase in water absorption and porosity values was noted. Additionally, while a decrease in compressive strength values was observed, it was determined that all sample groups exhibited V0 characteristics in the UL94 vertical burning test. This study has demonstrated that waste banana peels are a potentially low-cost filler material for polymer composites and can be used in applications requiring medium-strength yet lightweight materials

Peygamber’i (s.a.s.) hayatta iken görüp aynı ortamda bulunmanın yanında İslâm’ın temel kaynaklarının teşekkülüne muhatab ve şâhid olmuş, en hayırlı ümmet ve en faziletli nesildir. Bu nesil, İslâm’ın yayılması ve doğru anlaşılması noktasında Hz. Peygamber’in (s.a.s.) sünnetini ve hadislerini gelecek nesillere aktarma ve tanıtmada önemli bir rol üstlenmiştir. Bu yönüyle sahâbe hayatlarını, rivâyet ettikleri hadisleri incelemek hadis ilmi açısından son derece önemlidir. Bununla birlikte hadislerin vürud sebeplerinin bilinmesi ve hükme dönüşmesi büyük ölçüde bu neslin rivâyeti nasıl alıp muhafaza ettiği ve naklettiği ile ilişkilidir. Bu düşünce ile II. Akabe Biatı’nda ailesi ile birlikte İslâm ile şereflenen ve küçük yaşına rağmen hicretten önce ensârın ilk müslümanları arasında yer alan Abdullâh b. Zeyd b. Âsım’ın (r.a.) hayatı ve Kütüb-i Tis’a’da yer alan 137 rivâyetini tezimizde inceledik. Sahâbenin konumu ve öneminden hareketle, hadis ilmine katkı sunma amacı taşıyan bu çalışmamız, giriş ve iki bölümden oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde; araştırmanın önemi, konusu, amacı ve kaynaklarına yönelik bilgiler verilmiştir. Birinci bölüm Abdullâh b. Zeyd b. Âsım’ın (r.a.) biyografisi ile hadisçiliğine tahsis edilmiştir. İkinci bölümde ise Abdullâh b. Zeyd b. Âsım’ın (r.a.) rivâyetleri tahrîc edilerek konularına göre tasnif edilmiştir. Rivâyetin Arapça metin ve tercümesinin ardından râvileri ve senedi hakkında değerlendirme yapılarak her bir rivâyetin İbn Zeyd’den gelen isnadları şema halinde gösterilmiştir. Ayrıca farklı tariklerden gelen ve şâhid rivâyet metinlerindeki lafız farklılıklarına işaret edilerek ilgili rivâyet hakkındaki (sebeb-i vürûd, hükme etkisi, benzer hadislerle ilişkisi vs.) muhtelif bilgilere yer verilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler sonuç bölümünde tahlil edilerek özetlenmiş; bütün rivâyetler konu, kaynak, tür, sıhhat ve nakleden tâbiîn râvisine göre değerlendirilerek araştırma tamamlanmıştır.The generation of the Companions is the best ummah and the most virtuous generation, praised in the Qur'an and Sunnah, who saw the Prophet (pbuh) while he was alive and who witnessed and witnessed the formation of the basic sources of Islam, as well as being in the same environment. This generation played an important role in the spread and correct understanding of Islam and in the transmission and promotion of the Prophet's (pbuh) sunnah and hadiths to future generations. In this respect, analysing the lives of the Companions and the hadiths they narrated is extremely important for the science of hadith. However, the knowledge of why hadiths were said and their transformation into judgements is largely related to how this generation received, preserved and transmitted the narration. With this in mind, we examined the life of ‘Abdullāh b. Zayd b. Asim (RA), who was honoured with Islam with his family at the II. Biad of Aqabah and was among the first Muslims of the Ansar before the Hijrah despite his young age, and 137 narrations of him in the Qutub al-Tis'a in our thesis. This study, which aims to contribute to the science of hadīth based on the position and importance of the Companions, consists of an introduction and two chapters. In the introduction, information about the importance, subject, purpose and sources of the research is given. The first chapter is devoted to the biography of ‘Abdullāh b. Zayd b. Asim (RA) and his hadith. In the second part, the narrations of ‘Abdullāh b. Zayd b. Asim (RA) were identified from the sources and classified according to their subjects. After the Arabic text and translation of the narration, an evaluation of the narrators and the chain is made and the chains of each narration from Ibn Zayd are shown in the form of a diagram. In addition, the wording differences in the texts of the narrations coming from different chains and from others are pointed out, and various information about the related narration (the reason for its occurrence, its effect on the judgement, its relation with similar hadiths, etc.) are included. The data obtained are analysed and summarised in the conclusion section, and the research is completed by evaluating all narrations according to subject, source, type, authenticity and the narrator of the tābiīn
