Complex social issues increasingly affect individual mental well-being, especially in an environment overloaded with information from social media. Using attractive and effective language in social interactions can help individuals cope with stress through persuasive discourse. This study aims to identify and analyze the persuasive strategies used in interpersonal communication, particularly in responding to current issues. A qualitative content analysis approach is employed to examine various forms of persuasive speech found in social communication. The data indicates that the emotional appeal (pathos) is more dominant in social interactions when individuals face stress related to current issues. Additionally, imperative and indicative strategies are utilized to provide support and suggest solutions for those experiencing stress. The analysis also reveals that these strategies effectively maintain balance and encourage more rational thinking when dealing with current problems. Moreover, they significantly impact individual mental well-being. Therefore, within daily communication, the application of persuasive language warrants critical attention as a vital aspect of communication competence. It not only enhances the effectiveness of social interactions but also contributes to overall psychosocial well-being. As a result, it is crucial for individuals to master ethical, empathetic, and context-appropriate persuasive strategies as part of healthy communication practices that respect human values

Comparative evaluation of honey, aloe vera, and olive oil as alternative ultrasound coupling agents for abdominal imaging

    No full text
Background: Ultrasound imaging requires an effective coupling medium to eliminate air between the transducer and the skin and ensure optimal sound transmission. Commercial ultrasound gel is widely used, but its limited availability in low-resource settings, potential for skin irritation, and risk of contamination highlight the need for accessible natural alternatives. This study aimed to evaluate the image quality produced by aloe vera, honey, and olive oil in comparison with commercial ultrasound gel when imaging the liver, kidney, and aorta using a tissue-mimicking phantom. Methods: A comparative experimental design was used to assess four coupling agents: aloe vera, honey, olive oil, and commercial ultrasound gel. All materials were tested under identical imaging conditions using a Kyoto Kagaku ECHOZY Abdominal Set tissue-mimicking phantom and Siemens Acuson X150 system equipped with a 3.5–5 MHz curvilinear transducer. Images of the liver, kidney, and aorta were acquired at fixed ultrasound settings. Quantitative analysis was performed using ImageJ software to measure signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) based on standardised regions of interest. Qualitative image assessment was carried out through a virtual grading analysis (VGA) by three experienced sonographers who independently ranked image sharpness, noise, depth penetration, and overall quality. Results: Commercial ultrasound gel produced the highest image quality for the liver, with the highest SNR and CNR values. Aloe vera achieved the best performance for the kidney, producing higher quantitative values compared with the commercial gel. Olive oil demonstrated the highest CNR value for aortic imaging but showed moderate performance in other organs. Honey consistently produced the lowest SNR and CNR values across all organs, indicating limited suitability as a coupling medium. VGA findings aligned with quantitative outcomes, with aloe vera and olive oil performing comparably to commercial gel in selected organs. Conclusion: Aloe vera and olive oil demonstrated potential as practical alternatives to commercial ultrasound gel, particularly when standard gel is unavailable. Aloe vera showed the most consistent performance across imaging modalities, while honey was the least effective. These findings support further evaluation of natural products as accessible and cost-effective coupling media, particularly for use in low-resource or mobile ultrasound settings

History to legend: cultural memory, myth, and heroic resistance in Arab and Malay traditions

    No full text
Legendary heroes occupy a critical position at the intersection of history, literature, and cultural memory, functioning as symbolic figures through which societies articulate moral values, collective identity, and resistance to social or political domination. This article offers a comparative literary and cultural analysis of Antarah ibn Shaddad, a pre-Islamic Arab poet-warrior, and Mat Kilau, a Malay anti-colonial resistance figure, to examine how historical individuals are transformed into enduring legendary icons. Anchored in cultural memory theory and myth studies, the study approaches legend as a culturally meaningful mode of remembering rather than as historical distortion. Employing a qualitative comparative methodology, the research analyses literary texts, biographical narratives, historical accounts, and cultural representations associated with both figures. The findings demonstrate that legendary status in both traditions is constructed primarily through moral legitimacy, foregrounding values such as courage, resistance, loyalty, and ethical endurance rather than empirical completeness or military success. Antarah’s poetic self-representation and later sīrah traditions foreground the transformation of social marginality into heroic authority, while Mat Kilau’s resistance to colonial power is narratively elevated into a symbol of moral and communal justice. Across both cases, legend operates through selective narrative amplification, enabling heroic figures to function as stable moral exemplars within collective memory. By placing Arab and Malay heroic traditions in dialogue, this study contributes to comparative literature and cultural studies by revealing cross-cultural patterns in mythic hero-making and resistance narratives beyond Eurocentric frameworks

Cough syrup is a pharmaceutical preparation often containing ethanol as a solvent. However, the presence of ethanol in the drug can cause safety issues. This study aims to develop and validate a colorimetric method for determining ethanol in cough syrup. Cough syrup samples from different brands were analyzed using the method. The Visible spectrophotometric method uses the oxidation reaction of ethanol with potassium dichromate in an acidic condition. Method validation was conducted, including linearity, precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD), and limit of quantification (LOQ). The results showed this method had good linearity (r > 0.99) with a concentration range of 0.48 – 5.76 % (b/v). UV-Vis spectrophotometric method showed good precision and accuracy with SD = 0.0014, RSD = 0.4046 %, and % recovery = 99.99 %, while LOD = 0.1074 % and LOQ = 0.3253 %. This study concludes that the colorimetric method can be used as a valid and complementary method for analyzing ethanol content in cough syrup, providing important information for producers and consumers regarding product safety

Morphological variants of plasma cell myeloma: a case series of diagnostic mimics

    No full text
Introduction: Plasma cell myeloma (PCM) exhibits notable morphological heterogeneity beyond the classical plasma cell phenotype. Recognition of these variants is critical for accurate diagnosis and avoiding misclassification, particularly when they mimic other haematological or non-haematological malignancies. We report three PCM cases with distinct morphological features posing diagnostic challenges. Case Series: Case 1: A 65-year-old woman with multiple lytic skull lesions. Bone marrow examination revealed large cells with irregular, lobulated nuclei and abundant basophilic cytoplasm with vacuoles and blebs, morphologically resembling monocytes. immunohistochemistry (IHC) demonstrated CD138 positivity, kappa light chain restriction, and aberrant CD56 and CD117 expression. Case 2: A 62-year-old woman with renal impairment and reversed albumin-to-globulin ratio showed marrow infiltration by plasmablasts with high nuclear-to-cytoplasmic ratios, dispersed chromatin, and prominent nucleoli. Trephine biopsy revealed sheets of CD138-positive plasma cells with kappa light chain restriction. Case 3: A 66-year-old man with relapsed PCM and a concurrent neuroendocrine tumour of the nasopharynx demonstrated bone marrow involvement by pleomorphic, large sized, basophilic cells with cytoplasmic blebs. An initial impression of metastatic infiltration was revised following trephine biopsy, which showed sheets of CD138+, MUM1+, CD56+ plasma cells with kappa restriction; cytokeratin AE1/AE3 was negative. Discussion: This case series highlights the morphological diversity of PCM, which may mimic other neoplastic processes. Reliance on morphology alone may lead to misclassification. A combination of careful morphological assessment, supported by immunophenotyping and clinical correlation is essential for accurate diagnosis and prevent delays in treatment
