Function approximation technique-based adaptive force-tracking impedance control for unknown environment

    No full text
An accurate force-tracking in various applications may not be achieved without a complete knowledge of the environment parameters in the force-tracking impedance control strategy. Adaptive control law is one of the methods that is capable of compensating parameter uncertainties. However, the direct application of this technique is only effective for time-invariant unknown parameters. This paper presents a Function Approximation Technique (FAT)-based adaptive impedance control to overcome uncertainties in the environment stiffness and location with consideration of the approximation error in the FAT representation. The target impedance for the control law have been derived for unknown time-varying environment location and constant or time-varying environment stiffness using Fourier Series. This allows the update law to be derived easily based on Lyapunov stability method. The update law is formulated based on the force error feedback. Simulation results in MATLAB environment have verified the effectiveness of the developed control strategy in exerting the desired amount of force on the environment in x-direction, while precisely follows the required trajectory along y-direction, despite the constant or time-varying uncertainties in the environment stiffness and location. The maximum force error for all unknown environment tested has been found to be less than 0.1 N. The test outcomes for various initial assumption of unknown stiffness between 20000N/m to 120000N/m have shown consistent and excellent force tracking. It is also evident from the simulation results that the proposed controller is effective in tracking time-varying desired force under the limited knowledge of the environment stiffness and location

Optimization of post-processing parameters for enhanced characterization in metal extrusion 3D printing of copper-polymer composites

    No full text
The high costs associated with metal additive manufacturing methods including expensive feedstock, energy-intensive lasers, and controlled environments have limited their widespread adoption in industries like aerospace and automotive, despite powder bed fusion success in producing intricate and high-precision components. As a cost-effective alternative, material extrusion 3D printing enables the fabrication of metal-polymer composites using simpler equipment. However, challenges remain in optimizing post-processing parameters to enhance mechanical performance and microstructural integrity. This study focuses on improving the post-processing of copper-filled PLA parts fabricated with an Artillery Sidewinder X1 material extrusion printer. A Taguchi design of experiments approach using an L8 orthogonal array was employed to investigate the effects of debinding time, sintering time, and layer thickness. Results showed that shorter debinding compromised structural integrity in 25% of samples, while optimized settings achieved a 30.59% shrinkage and a 12.5% hardness increase. These findings highlight the significance of proper thermal post-processing in controlling dimensional changes and improving part quality

Regional tourism and revisit intention have been highlithted as important research topics in the competitive market of tourism destinations. Despite the extensive amount of research on repeat visitors, it remains unclear why people undertake repeat visits and what kind of characteristics hold repeat visitors. This research aims to (1) Identify tourists' first impression and (2) identify factors K-Drama Scenery, K-Pop, K-Drama Celebrities, K-Cuisine, K-Beauty Product influencing revisit intention to South Korea. This study implements a mixed-methods design using an online survey on Google Forms, with 222 data collected, but only 196 data were usable. An open-ended question was asked to answer the first objective, and a structured instrument was used for the second objective. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis to investigate tourists' impressions after the visit. Multiple linear regressions were used to investigate the strongest variable that explains the variance in revisit intention using IBM SPSS version 29. The qualitative results showed that Korean culture, such as K-Cuisine, K-Drama scenery, K-pop music, and K-Drama celebrities, leaves a strong impression on international tourists during their visits. The regression model showed 62% variance, which was explained by the revisit intention. The standardized beta coefficients revealed that Korean beauty products (beta = .314, t = 4.267, p <.001) and Korean cuisine (Beta = .251, t=3.372, p < .001) were the most influential predictors of revisit intention. Through the lens of international tourists, K-cuisine and K-beauty products are major factors influencing revisit intention, significantly shaping their strong desire to return to South Korea. This shift to cultural immersion through Hallyu encourages sustainable tourism, boosts local economies, fosters cross-cultural exchange, and redefines destination loyalty, challenging traditional tourism by focusing on repeat visits and deeper cultural connections

    No full text
Background: Campus dining services significantly influence students’ dietary choices, nutritional status, and overall health. Early detection of gaps in foodservice quality allows universities to implement preventive measures that promote healthy eating behaviours and prevent nutrition-related issues. This study aimed to evaluate the importance and satisfaction of foodservice attributes at university cafeterias using the Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA) method, with a focus on identifying priority areas for preventive intervention. Methods: A cross-sectional survey involving 231 students was conducted across three main campus cafeterias. Data was collected using a validated questionnaire consisting of 25 attributes across food quality, food selection, food price, interactional quality, and atmospheric quality using a 7-point Likert scale. Mean scores were calculated and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM SPSS Statistics) Version 29. The IPA grid was used to identify priority improvement areas. Results: While students generally considered food and service aspects to be highly important, the findings revealed that several areas did not meet their expectations. These included food hygiene, staff friendliness, speed of service, and cleanliness of dining spaces. In contrast, food freshness, nutritional value, reasonable pricing, and staff knowledge were viewed more positively. Aspects such as entertainment and dining ambiance were less emphasised for improvement. Conclusion: Overall, the results indicate a gap between student expectations and the current performance of foodservice operations in key operational areas. This study highlights the need for targeted enhancements, particularly in hygiene standards. Recommended actions include comprehensive staff training, regular cleanliness inspections, and the adoption of responsive customer service protocols

Abstract: The problem of extremism and terrorism is one of the most serious and pressing issues facing contemporary society. It has become an urgent concern for those interested in the state of religion. This study will address the role of faith in confronting extremism and terrorism, based on the ideas of Sheikh Afif al-Din Mahajir in his booklet, which remains unpublished. The research aims to analyze the concepts of faith and security in this ideology, reveal the mechanisms that link them in confronting extremism, and evaluate the effectiveness of this vision in addressing this problem. To our knowledge, this topic has not been addressed in previous studies. The research relied on an inductive and analytical approach to analyze Sheikh Afif al-Din Mahjar's thought. The research concludes that Sheikh Afif al-Din Mahjar's thought presents an integrated vision of the concepts of faith and security, and that this vision contributes effectively to countering extremism and terrorism by strengthening the relationship between the three sisterhoods (brotherhood of faith, Islamic brotherhood, and human brotherhood), strengthening social ties, and developing proper religious awareness and good deeds. Sheikh Afif al-Din Mahajir's thought is characterized by moderation and balance, rejecting extremism in all its forms and manifestations

Achieving sustainable economic development in Muslim countries: contemporary challenges and future prospects

    No full text
This research aims to discuss the landscape of Sustainable Economic Development in Muslim countries, establishing that its pursuit is not just a policy priority, but an ethical and religious obligation rooted in Islamic teachings, particularly the principles of Khilāfah (Stewardship) and Al-Adl (Justice). Many Muslim-majority nations face persistent contemporary challenges, including high poverty, resource dependency, weak institutional frameworks, and crippling corruption, which severely hinder their ability to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This research focuses on the strategic potential of revitalising traditional Islamic financial instruments: Zakāt, Waqf, and Islamic Philanthropy. Historically pivotal in alleviating poverty and financing public services, these tools can offer alternative and complementary pathways to fostering inclusive growth where state initiatives have proven insufficient. The research aims to evaluate how these mechanisms can be systematically integrated into national development strategies, while simultaneously analysing the formidable institutional, legal, and governance barriers that currently limit their effectiveness. Employing a descriptive-analytical methodology, this research provides a foundational understanding of these Islamic economic principles and critically examines successful models, such as the use of Green Sukuk and productive Zakāt in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia to demonstrate the viability of harnessing spiritual heritage for modern development demands. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the discourse on how Muslim countries can achieve responsible, ethical, and sustainable economic outcomes in the 21st century

A review of medical pluralism among psychiatric patients in Malaysia

    No full text
This review examines the practice of medical pluralism among psychiatric patients in Malaysia, where traditional and modern medical systems coexist. In a culturally diverse country like Malaysia, traditional healing practices – including Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Islamic medicine – are frequently used alongside biomedical care, particularly for mental health disorders such as major depressive disorder, anxiety, and psychotic conditions. Despite the availability of modern psychiatric services, many individuals continue to seek traditional remedies due to cultural beliefs that attribute mental illness to supernatural causes. This dual approach offers holistic and culturally sensitive care, enhancing treatment acceptability by aligning with patients’ spiritual and cultural beliefs. However, when traditional and biomedical systems are not well integrated, it often results in treatment delays, miscommunication, and reduced effectiveness of psychiatric interventions. The review discusses the factors influencing medical pluralism, including cultural, social, and demographic dimensions and highlights the challenges and ethical considerations surrounding the concurrent use of traditional and modern treatments. It also examines the role of Malaysia’s Traditional and Complementary Medicine Act 2016 (Act 775) in regulating and integrating traditional medicine into the national healthcare system. The paper concludes with recommendations for improving integration through standardized referral systems, public education, and community‑based programs to ensure safe, culturally sensitive, and effective psychiatric care in Malaysia
