Application of metabolomics and chemometrics for authentication of vegetable oils and adulteration detection: a review
The authentication and detection of adulteration in food are critical for ensuring food safety, quality and consumer protection. Vegetable oils are one of the significant diets in human nutrition, and hence its authenticity as well as safety are of utmost importance to ensure safe consumption and fairness of international trade. Metabolomics coupled with chemometrics, have been widely used as an accurate measurement of complex metabolite profiles in vegetable oils. This integrated methodology allows for the full identification of chemical compositions of vegetable oils and the detection of potential adulterants. This review outlines recent advances and applications of metabolomics in combination with chemometrics for the authentication and adulteration detection in vegetable oils. Various chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques combined with chemometrics such as multivariate statistical analysis for interpretation of big data sets enables the discovery of potential characteristic markers for authentication and adulteration detection in vegetable oils. Identifying the most suitable analytical technique and chemometrics tool helps in the marker discovery for authentication purposes, and can be further explored for the development of rapid detection technique for safety assessment by authorized regulatory bodies
Model of best halal compliance practices in restaurants: a validation for excellence and differentiation
The study aims to provide insights into the essential components of halal compliance practises in restaurants through empirical research and to validate the "Best Halal Compliance Practice (BHCP)" model. A total of 320 halal-certified restaurants were surveyed and PLS-SEM analysis was adopted to assess the model. Out of thirteen hypotheses, only two were rejected. The findings justify the development of the BHCP model while contributing to minimising the research gap in relevant fields of studies and pointing researchers in the right direction to better understand the essential components of halal compliance practises in restaurants. Businesses can have potential impact on their financial and non-financial performance through the halal compliance practises proposed in this study. The present study is the first of its kind to investigate the relationship between different components of halal compliance and the overall halal compliance performance of restaurants (i.e., BHCP)

Bibliometric perspectives on e-book evaluation
The remarkable advancement in the computing technology brings a new paradigm shift in the book perspective, transitioning from the physical book to the virtual book. It involves multiple sectors such as in the educational, health, engineering, economics, arts and many more. Rapid evolvement in the economic sector creates innovative platform that allows the authors to delve into E-book business that can reach to a wider audience without geographical limitations. Nowadays, anyone able to produce an E-book, however, to ensure that the E-book meets the usability and requirements of the audience is also important and cannot be neglected. Therefore, E-book evaluation is critical in this perspective. This study aims to explore the publication trends in E-book evaluation from 1984 until 2025. Several key aspects were investigated in this study that related to the (1) publication trends and growth, (2) the key authors and collaboration patterns, (3) institutional and country influence and (4) keyword analysis. The data were derived from the Scopus database by using the keywords (e-book OR ebook OR "electronic book" OR "digital book") AND evaluation. There are 595 obtained results in which after screening, the number of publications included for the study is 452. Data analysis and visualization were made using the biblioMagika and VOSviewer. Meanwhile for the influential institution for E-book evaluation is Kyoto University, Japan with 11 total publications with 90 total citations. The most productive country is United States with 85 publications in E-book evaluation. The E-book evaluation can be done either quantitatively or qualitatively. Notably, the advancement of artificial intelligence offers new dimensions for assisting in the evaluation proces
Engendering a maqasid worldview of gender roles in Malaysia: a content analysis of Che Husna Azhari’s Mariah (2003) and S.M. Zakir’s A Sword-fighter’s Love (2009)
The discourse on gender roles remains one of the most debated issues in modern Malaysia. While the country’s identity is rooted in religious and cultural heritage, a minority continues to promote gender debates through Western liberal philosophies, feminist critiques, and secular paradigms that emphasise individualism and relativism, often diverging from Malaysia’s socio-religious foundations. This study contributes to gender scholarship by proposing an alternative framework based on the maqasid al-shari‘ah and watanic jurisprudence, offering holistic, Quranic approaches to understanding gender. The research employs a qualitative case study design, analysing two Malaysian short stories written in English: Che Husna Azhari’s Mariah (2003) and S. M. Zakir’s A Sword-Fighter’s Love (2009). Methodologically, the analysis combines the maqasid al-shari‘ah with the watanic jurisprudential continuum, which contrasts Qur’anic integration of law and revelation with secular dichotomies that separate them. This dual approach enables a contextual reading that is both normatively grounded and culturally coherent. Findings indicate that, when examined through the maqasid–watanic framework, gender roles in the texts reflect balance, complementarity, and mutual responsibility, serving as divinely entrusted functions that uphold moral order, social cohesion, and spiritual well-being. This contrasts with secular-liberal interpretations, which often reduce gender to a matter of individual autonomy or power relations. The study argues that embedding maqasid and watanic jurisprudence in gender discourse allows for a more coherent and civilisationally authentic worldview, preserving Malaysia’s Islamic identity while critically engaging with global debate
Traditional marriages among the Luo in Kisumu County-Kenya fromthe Islamic perspective
This paper examines traditional marriage practices among the Luo community in Kisumu County, Kenya, from an Islamic perspective. The Luo, one of the largest ethnic groups in Kenya, have deeply rooted customs and traditions that shape their marriage practices. Key aspects of these traditions, such as bride price, polygamy, extended family involvement, and rituals, are explored in relation to Islamic marriage principles. The analysis seeks to identify points of convergence and divergence between Luo marriage customs and Islamic teachings on marriage, including monogamy, dowry (mahr), and gender roles. The study employed qualitative methods, using open-ended questions. The researchers reviewed literature, including books, journal articles, reports, conference papers, websites, and dissertations related to Luo traditional marriage. The study concludes that some aspects of Luo traditional marriage align with Sharia law, while others conflict with it. Therefore, the study recommends the importance of intercultural dialogue and mutual respect in addressing differences, and suggests areas for possible integration or adaptation of Islamic principles within Luo marriages. By examining these practices, the paper contributes to a broader understanding of how traditional African cultures and Islamic values interact, particularly in multi-faith and culturally diverse societies like Keny
Burkholderia cenocepacia keratitis with exogenous endopthalmitis: a complex combination
In this report, we present a case of Burkholderia cenocepacia (B. cenocepacia) keratitis with exogenous endophthalmitis in a post-vitrectomy eye. The patient was a 68-year-old man with a history of treated corneal laceration and endophthalmitis who presented with acute pain, redness, and lid swelling affecting the left eye following working at a palm oil plantation. There was a paracentral corneal stromal infiltrate with dense vitritis in his left eye. Cornea cultures grew B. cenocepacia. He received two modalities of antimicrobials, including intravitreal injections and intensive topical antibiotics. Pars plana vitrectomy was not performed due to poor corneal visibility from a previous trauma scar. His stromal infiltrates and vitreous opacity responded to therapy that was sensitive to this organism, and the keratitis healed with scarring after a month. The progression of B. cenocepacia keratitis to endophthalmitis can be rapid. Early identification and appropriate commencement of antibiotics can prevent detrimental sequelae, including blindness and loss of the eyebal
