    This history of the 10th Light Division covers only the period to the end of April 1944. The subsequent history of the division, including its reorganization as the 10th Mountain Division, is sketched in booklet, Studies in the History of the Army Ground Forces, no. 23, "Training for Mountain and Winter Warfare." The present study, submitted by the division in June 1944, is included in the series of AGF Studies to supplement No. 23, and also No. 24, "The Mountain Training Center." The history of the Army Ground Forces as a command was prepared during the course of the war and completed immediately thereafter. The studies prepared in Headquarters, Army Ground Forces, were written by professional historians, three of whom served as commissioned officer and one as a civilian. The histories of the subordinate commands were prepared by historical officers, who except in Second Army, acted as such in addition to other duties. The document was scanned by the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC)

    The movement of supplies for Operation Overlord shall be through the ports indicated and in accordance with the procedures prescribed in this directive. Objective: a. to insure the movement of supplies to the Far Shore in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Forces; b. to provide for loading in the early phases of the operation in accordance with prepared stowage plans to meet tactical requirements; c. to insure the movement of supplies to Ports with the shortest possible rail haul and to phase this movement to avoid bottle necks at peak periods; and d. to establish procedures for port operations that will insure the performance of the mission assigned and reduce the turn around time of all craft to a minimum.
