Interdiction, final issue November 1945. Fourteenth Air Force operations against railroads: the Japanese view.

    No full text
When the cessation of hostilities made the demands for combat intelligence somewhat less exacting, it occurred to the undersigned that it would be useful to determine the extent of damage to, and the efficiency of 14th Air Force methods of operation against the railways in China used by the Japanese to facilitate their military operations while the Japanese officials and their records were still accessible. This would make it possible to base the studies, which will inevitably, for future planning, be made during the post war period, not only on our records of such operations and their assumed effectiveness but on testimony from the other side as well. As the proposal was enthusiastically endorsed by Major General Stone, Commanding General of the 14th Air Force, as well as by AAFCT and by USFCT, the undersigned proceeded immediately to Peiping where, after a preliminary interview with Lieutenant General T. Takahashi, Chief of Staff, Japanese armies of North China, several days were spent in conference with the principal Japanese military and civilian railroad officials. One or more days were then spent similarly at each of the principal North China Railroad division headquarters, at Hankow from which the South China Railways were operated and at Nanking, control point for the Central China Railways. In all of these places field trips were made to railroad yards, shops, and bridges which had been attacked. Close inspection from the air was made of a large part of the railroad bed throughout the zones of attack and collateral notice was taken of other military factors
