G-4 periodic report, fourth quarter, 31 December 1945.
The immediate post V-J Day mission of China Theater was to assist the Chinese to disarm the Japanese and reoccupy Chinese territory formerly held by the Japanese. This necessitated the establishment of a new base in East China which would be better situated for the execution of the theater mission and which could be logistically supported by shorter sea routes of supply. The China Theater center of operational gravity, therefore, shifted after V-J Day from West China to East China. Theater responsibilities in West China became those of evacuation, property disposal and deactivation of the old China Theater bases. Theater responsibilities in East China required the activation, stocking and supplying of a new China Theater base

Gas defense handbook, translation of Japanese manual Gasu Bogo Kyohan, February 1937.
The purpose of gas defense is to devise suitable measures for the commander and his men when the enemy employs gas, so that their belief of invincibility may be maintained, and their mission can be successfully completed. This manual deals mainly with gas defense in open warfare. However, each gas defense measure has its relative importance, depending upon the mission of the unit, or branch of service; therefore, the unit commanders should analyze and accurately decide upon the scope of instructions to be given and, at the same time, take care not to confuse the means and ends of their training. Sections include the following: basic principles of gas; use of gases; duties in gas warfare; individual gas protection; mass production; care of equipment; gas control; intelligence and security; meteorological observation; first aid for gas casualties; anti-gas measures in medium or heavy shelters; and simple meteorological instruments
