He studied with Staf Nees (1901-1965) and Jef van Hoof (1886-1959) at the Royal Carillon School (Mechelen, Belgium/AACF –BEME – Ro) and graduated in 1955. Brees, Anton
No full textAnton Brees (1897-1967) was born in Antwerp, Belgium. His father, Gustaf, was the organist and carillonneur of the Antwerp Cathedral. Brees studied under his father and then at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp (Belgium). Brees had a close association with the John Taylor & Company Bell Foundry (Loughborough, England, Great Britain) and dedicated every Taylor carillon built in the United States between 1928 and 1963. From 1929 to 1933, Brees was the director of the Campanology Department at the Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States). He was carillonneur of: Queen’s Park (Loughborough, England, Great Britain), Mercersburg Academy (Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, United States), Bok Tower Gardens (The American Foundation) (Lake Wales, Florida, United States), and Duke University (Durham, North Carolina, United States)
