Bangs, Carl
Carl Bangs (1945-2013) was a pianist, horn player, and carillonneur. From 1962 to 1966, while earning a degree in classical Greek and philosophy from the University of Kansas- Lawrence, he studied carillon with Albert Gerken. He also earned a masters degree in theology. He attended the Royal Carillon School (Mechelen, Belgium) in 1965 and studied with Piet van den Broeck (1916-2008). In 1973, he earned an undergraduate degree in Special Performance (Carillon) from the University of California-Santa Barbara. In 1974, he studied with Ennis Fruhauf and earned a M.A. in Performance of Music (Carillon) from the University of California-Santa Barbara. From 1990 to 1998, Bangs was the assistant carillonneur at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist (Spokane, Washington, United States). He was also an assistant carillonneur at the University of California- Berkeley
