1887 Plant Specimen Collection
An album containing plant specimens collected by Mrs. H.E. (Adella) Fairchild on May 16, 1887. The inside front cover includes a typed note (dated 1970) providing information about the history of the album. Additional information is also written in pencil on the top of the first page (a digitally enhanced version of these notes is available on page 3 of the PDF).
Several but not all of the plant specimens are identified.
There is visible damage to the front of the album and evidence of wear throughout. Generally the plant specimens are in good condition though some have been slightly damaged, and many have come partially unglued from their respective pages. To improve storage conditions and prevent further damage, each page has been encapsulated in a removable, archival specimen sleeve (Feb 2018)."This collection of ferns and plants was complied about the year 1887 by Mrs. H.E. Fairchild.
It was presented to Mildred Norton Andrews by Mrs. H.D. Thomas of Cincinnati, Ohio and later Croton, Michigan.
The Fairchild Gardens consisted of a large part of the present Hillcrest Heights.
Mrs. Fairchild was an active member of the Garden Club of Babson Park." - DBM January 1970.

Remy Müller Photo album
Remy Muller (1894-1978) was a World War I Army Veteran and employee at the John Wanamaker Store (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States). In 1931, he was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), where he specialized in campanology. As part of the curriculum at the Curtis Institute, he studied carillon with Anton Brees at Bok Tower Gardens (Lake Wales, Florida, United States).
Muller compiled this photograph album detailing his time in Florida. Copies of a few of the photos can also be seen in Muller's scrapbook, along with postcards and letters to his wife and son (see ARMC000001).
The album is in fair condition. The front cover is almost completely split in 2, along the fold. Many of the page edges are torn, bent, or broken and many of the photographs show evidence of fading or discoloration. The first 5 pages have been removed from the album binding and stapled together. In this front section, the photographs have been pasted directly to the pages and are the only photographs which have captions. The later photos are attached by means of photo corners and are unidentified - except for 1 photograph which shows the location of what is now Pinewood Estate. This photo was identified at a later date (1990s?) by Bok Tower Gardens staff
Remy Müller scrap book
Remy A. Muller (1894-1978) was a World War I Army Veteran and employee at the John Wanamaker Store (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States).
Muller compiled this scrapbook detailing his time in Florida, including photographs, postcards, and his letters back home to his wife, Elizabeth ("Bee"), and son, Robert. This is the second of two (2) copies of this scrapbook. The first, which was given as a thank you gift to Mary Louise Curtis Bok, is held in the archives at the Curtis Institute. This second copy is believed to be Muller's own copy. Both are bound in the same green leather and embossed on the cover with the words "Florida 1931 at the Singing Tower." Both contain many of the same letters, photographs, and postcards, though they are not identical. Muller's copy also includes several additional loose pieces of paper, which can be found on pages 65-75 of the PDF, including a letter from Mary Louise Curtis Bok.
Several of the photos, along with additional photos not found in the scrapbook, can be seen in Muller's photograph album (see ARMC000002).
There is evidence of age and wear throughout the scrapbook, including discoloration. The items within the scrapbook were attached to the pages using adhesive tape, which on many pages has come loose with age, leaving adhesive residue and discoloration throughout
