The Bradenton Missionary Village
The Bradenton Missionary Village was opened in 1981 by Tropicana founder Anthony T. Rossi as a place for Christian missionaries to retire. Under the umbrella of his charity foundation, Aurora Ministries, Rossi built a village of duplexes around several lakes on 100 acres on S.R. 64. Bradenton Missionary Village had 235 two-bedroom homes, a community center, shuffleboard court, two Olympic-size pools and lots of open space. Residents are responsible only for electricity and telephone costs, with Aurora Ministries covering all other costs. In order to live at the Village, residents had to apply and must be at least 65 years old, a member of an evangelical organization and have at least 20 years of missionary service. Today it is known as il Villaggio Homes, a 55+ Evangelical Christian community, which still provides affordable reduced-rent living options. It is located at 1200 Aurora Blvd
