President Connie Ledoux Book Congratulating Brigadier General Mark Bebensee (2018)
This video, titled Connie Ledoux Book, President, Congratulated Brig. General Mark Bebensee, as a Faculty Emeritus at the Citadel. President Book sent her congratulation to Brig. General Mark Bebensee from her office on April 10, 2018. She stated, “Greetings General Bebensee. It is great to have an opportunity to congratulate you on your conferral – is this the best way to say this- as a Faculty Emeritus at the Citadel. I can’t think of a better recognition of a lifetime of hard work and dedication to the Citadel and to the cadets. When you think about professors that through their time at a college make lasting impact, everything about your time at the Citadel reflects that. From an assistant professor who engaged young people round the topic of Economics in a way that they had not considered before opening their minds to that. To a department chair who fostered that passion for teaching and excellence with other faculty and helped them realize their own teaching goals. To the work of establishing accreditation as an important stamp of a gold star or excellence on the School of Business will be forever part of your legacy at the Citadel. And then your work, while I was Provost, for Sam Hines in fostering great culture of student support – taking the roles outside of our discipline where we helped develop young people into the kind of people that we want to work with, that we want to have as friends, that is the effort that I will always remember you, Mark, was the time you took with the cadets to really help shape them as young men and women and improve the quality of their lives in doing so. 00:02:03 So now you are General Bebensee and I am very proud that you had that opportunity to serve and so grateful that you were willing to stay that additional year at the Citadel. Everyone is so appreciative of that service. I can’t think of a faculty member that embodies the Emeritus status more than you and I am deeply grateful. And I count myself very fortunate to have had spent time working with you. Thank you, Mark.” Brigadier General Mark A. Bebensee became interim Provost (after President Connie Ledoux Book accepted the Elon’s 9th Presidency) in March 2018. Prior to his current position, he was the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs since 2009, and prior to assuming this administrative position, he was the Associate Dean of the School of Business Administration, a position he held for 8 years. While 30 of his 34 years at The Citadel have dealt with same type of administrative duties, he has consistently taught both undergraduate, as well as graduate students each semester and is considered an outstanding professor by his colleagues, as well as his students. He began his career at The Citadel as an Assistant Professor of Economics in 1977, and quickly moved through the administrative ranks as Assistant to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, as well as Department Head, and then, Associate Dean of the School of Business Administration
