Leaders of the 21st Century: Ice Storm (2018)
This video titled, Leaders of the Twenty-First Century: Ice Storm, was an annual celebration that honored outstanding fellows and scholars, providing them with the opportunity to share details of their work with their faculty members, peers, and families prior to Commencement. In this particular video, The Class of 2018 entered Elon University in August of 2014. The Fellow Students reflected on the “Fellows Weekend” and the ice storm that occurred in March 2014. This particular video included video of the 2014 ice on trees and branches, along with the tree that fell on the William Henry Belk Pavilion’s roof.

This video titled, Leaders of the Twenty-First Century: Opportunities, was an annual celebration that honored outstanding fellows and scholars, providing them with the opportunity to share details of their work with their faculty members, peers, and families prior to Commencement. In this particular video, Alexis Williams, Class of 2018, Lumen Scholar & Arts and Humanities Fellow talked about creating clay sculptures of African American women. Samantha Friedman, Class of 2018, Teaching Fellow & Lumen Scholar spoke of opportunity as an Elon Fellow. Carly Goldstein, Class of 2018, Social Sciences Fellow, spoke of asking questions. The students also talked about research in their majors. Study Abroad programs were discussed by the students. Some names included: Mary Alice Allnutt, Perry Elyaderani, and Jackie Pascale.
Maker Hub, Brittni Bly (2017)
This video titled, Maker Hub with Brittni Bly, was recorded on November 10, 2017. Bly was an Elon University Physical Therapy Graduate Student. She created a project called “Elon Kickbox.” Bly was interested in patients with spinal cord recovery. She saw a lot of her patients sweating and she created and made a sweating tee shirt for her patients. She said that she could not have done this without the Maker Hub.
Sklut Hillel Center 5th Anniversary (2018)
This video, titled The 5th Anniversary Birthday Bash for the Sklut Hillel Center, was recorded on September 29, 2018. The occasion was the 5th anniversary of the building's service as a center for Jewish life on the campus of Elon University. The house and property located at North Antioch and East College Avenues was dedicated in 2013 as the new home for Elon Hillel, a member of a worldwide organization that fosters personal connections to Jewish life, learning, and Israel. The center was named for Eric and Lori Sklut, parents of a 2014 graduate. The video was a dedication to the Sklut family whose visionary philanthropy helped Elon Hillel grow. Some names included: Hannah Podhorzer, Betsy Polk, Rich Landesberg, Joel Harter, and Lea Silverman
Anatomical Gift Program Memorial Service (2017)
This video, titled The Anatomical Gift Program Memorial Service, occurred in September of 2017. This memorial service honored those who were ‘silent teachers’ for Elon’s School of Health Sciences, Doctor of Physical Therapy students, and Master of Physician Assistant Studies students. They gathered in the Sacred Space at the Numen Lumen Pavilion, to show gratitude to the people who donated their bodies to educate students. Some names included: Dr. Janet Cope, Dr. Cindy Bennett, Michael Whitehurst –Graduate -Class of 2019, Ann Marie Wilson – Class of 2019, and Mark Unknown last name- Twin Brother to donor Mary.
Women's Basketball: Elon vs. Liberty, Part Two (2003)
In this raw video titled, Elon’s Women’s Basketball, occurred in the Alumni Gym on February 23, 2003, against Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia. Phil Elkins and Chris Gaylor were the student television announcers for the game. The student announcers were representing Elon Student Television-Sports. Brenda Paul, Elon Phoenix Head Basketball Coach, was the Elon Phoenix Head Basketball Coach. 00:02:21 The game was picked up at the Half-Time with the score – Elon 27 points and Liberty 29 points. A pan shot of the basketball fans can be seen. The Phoenix mascot was walking on the basketball court. 00:52:20 The Elon Phoenix Basketball team gathered in a huddle with ten seconds left in the 2nd half. The final score was Elon 66 points and Liberty 74 points. 00:53:29 Elon and Liberty basketball players ended the game with high fives
Convocation for Honors, Margaret Thatcher (1995)
This video, titled A Convocation for Honors was addressed by Margaret Thatcher on April 28, 1995 in the Alumni Memorial Gym. The video shot was only a side view shot. 00:00:05 People were coming into the alumni gym to be seated for the Elon College Convocation. Musicians are practicing. 00:00:53 The British flag was hanging in the Alumni Gym. 00:01:11 J. Earl Danieley walked down the center aisle carrying the ELON MACE. Melvin Palmer, Chair, Board of Trustees. 00:21:50 The Convocation Ode “Hellas: Orpheus with His Lute Made Trees, Jonathan D. Green , played and was written in honor of Robert Model, Class of 1967. 00:25:05 The recognition of Honors were presented (Academic, Jamie P. Brown, Watts-Thompson Professor; Philanthropic, Lawrence W. Milas, President, F.W. Olin Foundation; Service, James B. Powell, MD., Board of Trustees). The Conferring of Honorary Degrees were presented (Frank Hawkins Kenan presented by William C. Friday, President Emeritus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and The Right Honorable Baroness Thatcher presented by Thomas E. Worrell Jr., Parent). The Presentation of the Speaker was read by J. Fred Young, Elon College President. 00:47:41 The Convocation Address was given by Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of Great Britain (1979-1990). New Student Convocation (1995)
On September 20, 1995, Elon College hosted its Fall Convocation featuring Millard Fuller, President and Founder of Habitat for Humanity International, as the keynote speaker. The event took place in Alumni Gym and began with a processional to the music of God of Our Fathers arranged by Thomas R. Erdman. Dr. J. Earl Danieley placed the MACE on the holder (00:00:48), followed by the Invocation read by Joyce Crawford, Class of 1997 (00:00:53). The Elon College Chamber Singers, Choir, and Pep Band, directed by Jonathan D. Green, performed the Elon College Anthem set to a tune by Henry Purcell (00:02:38). President J. Fred Young welcomed attendees (00:04:51), and Edmund R. Gant offered greetings from the Board of Trustees (00:06:38). Mary Rebecca Freymoyer, Class of 1997, shared an educational experience, Amigowas de las Americas (00:09:06).
Millard Dean Fuller was awarded an honorary degree, with the citation presented by Thomas K. Tieman and the degree conferred by President Young (00:14:50). During his speech, The Global Reach of Habitat for Humanity (00:18:11), Fuller discussed Habitat for Humanity’s impact, including a partnership between Alamance County and Elon College to build a house using funds raised locally (00:19:50). He emphasized the role of Habitat campus chapters and noted the strong connection between Elon and the organization (00:21:26). The event concluded with the singing of Gaudeamus Igitur by the Elon College Chamber Singers, Choir, and Pep Band (00:48:19), followed by the Benediction read by Chaplain Richard W. McBride (00:49:35), and a recessional (00:50:24).
Later that day, a press conference was held with Millard Fuller and Tracy Ann (née Pilc) Costello, Class of 1993, President of Elon’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter. They announced a significant partnership in which Elon College pledged 15,000 through collaboration with the community and affiliates. Costello stood in front of the second Habitat house built by Elon students. Smith Jackson, speaking on behalf of the college, highlighted Elon’s dedication to service learning, noting that over half of the student body had participated in related projects the previous year. He also announced a donation from Ernest Koury Jr. to secure land for the next house (00:02:07). Fuller acknowledged Elon’s role as one of the first campus chapters, commending the ongoing commitment to Habitat’s mission (00:03:19).
At 11:00 a.m., Fuller delivered his keynote speech at the Convocation, followed by a Q&A session with Tracy, Jackson, and Fuller
Numen Lumen: Josh Ferno & Olivia Arges (2017)
This video, titled Numen Lumen with Josh Ferno and Olivia Arges, occurred on Thursday, October 12, 2017 in the Scared Space in Numen Lumen. Ferno played the guitar prior to Arges talk about her experiences of the Numen Lumen’s theme, “WHAT NOW? Reflections on Change and Resilience.” Arges spoke about her health and pushing forward with her goals. In addition, Arges, major was in Human Services Studies with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities Studies. Ferno was an Honor’s Fellow double-majoring in Sociology and Policy Studies
Call to Honor Ceremony (2017)
This video, titled Call to Honor Ceremony, occurred in September 2017 in Alumni Gym. The Call to Honor is a fall tradition that allows campus leaders and faculty to share with new Elon students how the university community expects its members to live by the core principles and values (Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Integrity) known as the Elon Honor Code. The 9:40 a.m. ceremony took place in Alumni Gym. 00:14:02 Dr. Leo Lambert read Elon’s traditional core values of the Honor Code. The new students repeated the commitment verse with Lambert. The Student Government Association (SGA) students participated in this ceremony
