Study of Root Word Nests in World Linguistics from Various Aspects

The history of language is directly related to the history of word roots and root word nests. The evolution, morphological and semantic changes within root words and root word nests have always been a focus of world linguistics. Structural-semantic analysis of root word nests investigates the interaction between the semantics of the core words of these nests and the structural features. This structural-semantic analysis explains the relevance of the components included in the root word nest to the parts of speech and the influence of grammatical categories on the motivation of these components. Modern theories of word formation encourage the study of lexical-grammatical problems in cognitive and pragmatic directions in root word nests and create conditions for studying complex units of root word nests from the perspective of frame theory at the level of discourse. In particular, frame theory, its methods, and techniques began to be applied to word creation and lexical-grammatical root word nests

This study investigates the presence of harmful compounds, including acrylamide, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and heavy metals, in commonly consumed street fries such as yam fries, potato fries, and plantain chips. Samples were collected from 20 street vendors across Lagos and analysed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The results revealed acrylamide levels ranging from 120 to 480 µg/kg, PAH concentrations between 2.5 and 15.8 µg/kg, and heavy metal contamination, with lead (Pb) levels ranging from 0.02 to 0.15 mg/kg and cadmium (Cd) levels up to 0.08 mg/kg. These values exceed recommended safety limits in several cases, raising concerns about long-term health effects. The findings highlight the potential cancer risks associated with frequent consumption of street fries and emphasise the need for regulatory monitoring and public health awareness

Character Development and "The Hero's Journey" in Epic Narratives: Homer's The Odyssey

This paper explores the link between character development and the hero's journey in epic narratives. The Odyssey is a foundational epic that portrays the hero's journey. This study illustrates how Odysseus's character development aligns with Campbell's "the hero's journey" framework. His transformation from a proud and boastful warrior to a wise and patient leader is in synch with Campbell's monomyth structure, which outlines an array of stages that a central character undergoes, from the ordinary world to the return with the elixir. Character development is crucial within this structure as it shapes the hero's identity and enriches the emotional depth of the narrative. Throughout his journey home, Odysseus confronts physical and moral challenges that test his intellect, perseverance, and humility. The hero acquires new skills, insights and ethical values through trials and transformations, ultimately giving rise to their rebirth and integration into society. This growth process mirrors the universal themes of persistence, sacrifice and redemption that resonate with audiences across cultures. This study highlights character development and the hero's journey in epic narratives using examples from The Odyssey

Phylogenetic Analysis of Plasmodium falciparum Strains in Nigeria

Malaria continues to be a significant public health issue in Nigeria, primarily due to Plasmodium falciparum's genetic adaptability, which complicates its eradication efforts. To examine the phylogenetic diversity, drug resistance patterns, and molecular adaptations of P. falciparum strains in Nigeria, this review systematically synthesised findings from 56 peer-reviewed studies published between 2000 and 2023. PCR, sequencing, and in silico methods were employed to analyse critical genetic markers, including msp1, msp2, pfcrt, pfmdr1, and kelch13. The results indicated that the multiplicity of infection (MOI) and genetic diversity were both high. Southern Nigeria exhibited a substantially higher MOI than northern regions, with Ibadan and Lagos isolates recording MOI values exceeding 3.0 and Katsina isolates remaining below 1.5. It is important to note that chloroquine resistance markers are present in over 60% of isolates, despite policy changes.Additionally, low-frequency kelch13 variants were detected in the northern region, despite the rarity of artemisinin resistance mutations. Geographical barriers and human migration were identified as shaping forces, as evolutionary analyses emphasised region-specific clade formations and restricted gene flow across ecological zones. Additionally, diagnostic reliability in certain regions is compromised by deletions in the hrp2/hrp3 loci. These results emphasise the pressing necessity of investing in genomics infrastructure, regionally tailored treatment guidelines, and integrated molecular surveillance to facilitate precision malaria control and inform vaccine development strategies in Nigeria
