    Multi-Metal Adsorption of Lead (II), Cadmium (II), and Manganese (II) Ions from Simulated Solution onto HDTMA-Br Modified Dijah-Monkin Bentonite Clay

    In this study, Dijah-Monkin bentonite clay was modified with a cationic surfactant hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HDTMA-Br) at the level of twice the cation exchange capacity (CEC) and applied in adsorption to obtain the optimal conditions for the removal of lead (II), cadmium (II) and manganese (II) from a solution. The Box-Behnken design matrix comprised particle size of clay, initial metal ion concentration, and contact time as the independent variables, with the heavy metals' adsorption capacities and percentage removals as the responses. The experimental results fit linear models for the adsorption capacity and quadratic models for the percentage removal. Also, only the particle size and initial concentration significantly affected the responses. However, the effect of contact time was significant for cadmium removal, suggesting that the adsorption of cadmium ion on the adsorbent increases with increased contact time; this is due to high cadmium cation hydration energy of -1807 kJ/mol-1 compared to lead and manganese with -1481 kJmol-1, -1760 kJmol-1 respectively. Furthermore, the model equations for the responses were developed, and the optimum adsorption condition for the multi-metal adsorption that maximised the adsorption capacity and the percentage removal was obtained to be 150 µm particle size, 50 mg/l initial concentration over 171 minutes

    Effectiveness and Safety of Using Warm Lime Water in Pregnant Women

    This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of using warm lime water as a therapeutic intervention in pregnant women. Methods: A systematic review of published literature was conducted to identify relevant studies. Studies that examined the use of warm lime water in pregnant women were included. The outcomes assessed included symptom relief, adverse effects, and maternal and fetal outcomes. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. Electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, were searched for relevant studies published between 2010 and 2022. Results: The review identified limited studies investigating the use of warm lime water in pregnant women. The available evidence suggested that warm lime water may provide some symptom relief for common pregnancy discomforts such as constipation and heartburn. However, the evidence regarding its effectiveness for other conditions or complications during pregnancy was scarce. Adverse effects were rarely reported, but the safety of long-term or excessive use of warm lime water remains uncertain. Maternal and fetal outcomes were not consistently reported across the included studies. The current evidence on the effectiveness and safety of using warm lime water in pregnant women is limited and inconclusive. While it may relieve certain pregnancy discomforts, the potential risks and long-term effects are unclear. Further, well-designed studies are needed to assess the efficacy, safety, and optimal dosage of warm lime water in pregnant women. Healthcare providers should exercise caution and discuss using warm lime water with pregnant patients, considering the lack of robust evidence and potential unknown risks

    Analysis of Erosion and Sedimentation Rates of Pengga Dam Using MUSLE Method

    Pengga Dam is a water resource in the Pelambik Village area, Southwest Praya, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. This dam experienced sedimentation problems caused by land erosion, threatening its helpful life. Preventing the decline in the useful life of the dam can be done by predicting the amount of erosion that occurs in the dam's catchment area. The erosion rate can be estimated and analyzed using the Modified Soil Loss Equation (MUSLE) method using ArcGIS 10.8 software. The MUSLE method consists of several factors that influence its analysis; there are surface runoff factor (R), soil erodibility factor (K), length and slope factor (LS), land use factor (C), and erosion control-practice factor which are analyzed into a layout based on the catchment area of Pengga Dam. Using the erosion value, the sedimentation of Pengga Dam is calculated based on the Sediment Delivery Ratio (SDR) using the Boyce (1975) method and the Menhut (2005) method. The results of data analysis show that the erosion rate in the Pengga Dam Catchment Area (CA) is 38456.98 tons/year with an eroded catchment area of 19537.56 ha. Based on the Brune and Churchill graphs, the trap efficiency value of Pengga Dam is 96%. Therefore, the sedimentation of Pengga Dam is 1583.936 m³/year using the Boyce method and 2093.06 m³/year using the Menhut method. From the results of this erosion and sedimentation analysis, it is hoped that erosion at Pengga Dam can be predicted and controlled in the future so that it does not have a harmful impact

    Based on documentary sources, the article provides detailed information about the history and fate of the Golden-Domed (choral) Synagogue in Hlukhiv (Sumy region, Ukraine), which was destroyed during World War II. At the same time, for the first time, all available information about the external appearance, internal premises and interiors of the synagogue was collected and presented. By comparing visual sources (drawings and plans of the synagogue, as well as photographic documents depicting this building at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries), an attempt was made to describe the appearance and internal equipment of the synagogue. The documents used in the article and the complete plans for the lost Golden-Domed Synagogue are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time

    Substitutive Effects of Upland Rice and Soybean Plant Populations on the Performance of the Component Crops in Intercropping System

    A two–year field experiment was carried out in the 2018-2019 cropping seasons to determine the effect of substitutive plant population on the yield and productivity of component crops in the upland rice/soybean intercropping in the lowland humid region of Umudike, Southeast Nigeria. The treatments comprised three intercrop populations and one sole crop population of upland rice and soybean, which includes sole upland rice (Oryzae sativa L.) 100%, sole soybean 100%, Upland rice (Oryzae sativa L.) 25% + Soybean 75%, Upland rice (Oryzae sativa L.) 50% + Soybean 50% and Upland rice (Oryzae sativa L.) 75% + Soybean 25%. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The yield data collected were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) using Genstat (2009), which includes grain yield of upland rice, number of panicles per plant, weight of seeds per panicle, weight of seeds per plant, and 1000-seed weight while soybean includes number of seeds per pod, number of seeds per plant, weight of seeds per plant. The treatments that received Rice 75/Soybean 25 produced the highest number of seeds/panicle weight of seeds/plant in 2018, while the correlation result showed a strong and positive association between grain yield of upland rice, number of panicle per plant, weight of seeds per panicle, weight of seeds per plant, and 1000-seed weight. Based on the result of the investigation, Rice 50/Soybean 50 gave the highest total land equivalent ratio (TLER), land equivalent ratio (LER), and % land saved in 2018. However, it was not consistent in 2019

    Implementation of Regional Public Service Agency Management at State Vocational High School 5 Mataram, Indonesia

    The Regional Public Service Agency (BLUD) at Vocational High Schools (SMK) is the government's encouragement to make Vocational Schools more effective, efficient and productive. Through the Vocational School revitalization program and teaching factory learning, Vocational Schools are encouraged to become BLUDs. The emergence of Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 79 of 2018 concerning Regional Public Service Bodies provides an excellent opportunity for State Vocational Schools to implement the BLUD governance pattern under the guidance of the regional government through the education and culture service. The main requirement for a Vocational School to become a BLUD is to fulfil substantive, technical, and administrative requirements. This research aims to describe how BLUD management is implemented at SMK Negeri 5 Mataram. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods using data sources like observations, interviews and supporting documents. The informants in this research were the BLUD management team at SMK Negeri 5 Mataram. The research results show that the management of BLUD at SMK Negeri 5 Mataram has implemented a good management process to improve school performance. The obstacles to managing this BLUD are the lack of administrative staff, strengthening coordination between management elements, and preparing SOPs for employees and students in teaching factory learning and SOPs for business activities. The importance of support from the local government to support BLUD services must be more severe so that business planning and implementation can be maximally realized with a contribution from the revenue budget to start managing BLUD as capital to develop the business

    Level of Understanding of Elementary School Physical Education Teachers in Preparing Learning Plans

    The purpose of this study is to determine the ability of physical education teachers in planning and implementing learning and to identify the obstacles faced by physical education teachers in planning and implementing learning in elementary schools. This study uses a mixed methods approach. The population in this study was 205 physical education teachers at elementary schools in South Aceh Regency. The data collection techniques used by researchers in this study were documentation collection techniques in the form of lesson plans, observation with video recordings, and interviews to determine the obstacles faced by teachers. The data analysis technique used in this study was descriptive analysis. The study results were as follows: 1) the preparation of learning obtained an average value of 5.37 in the less category with a percentage of 52.94%; 2) The analysis of learning implementation data for elementary school physical education teachers obtained an average value of 6.75 in the good category with a percentage of 80.56%. Based on the results of the percentage calculation above, it can be concluded that the ability of physical education teachers to compile learning plans is in the less category, while the results of the data analysis of the ability of physical education teachers to implement learning are in the good category. Furthermore, the obstacles faced are limited resources and relevant references, curriculum adjustments to curriculum changes, and various student needs that make it difficult to cover all needs

    ANAS as a Historical Memory Space: Philosophical Approach

    The article explores the philosophical implications of Pierre Nora's concept of "memory space" in the context of historical memory. Within this framework, a philosophical perspective is applied to the scientific and cultural memory space of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). It is demonstrated that the memory space of ANAS can be examined in two aspects with distinct characteristics. One aspect is related to the historical-chronological context of the philosophical research of existing academies in Azerbaijan. The main factor here is the synthesis of Greek philosophical-scientific rationalism with the local scientific thinking style, which has been present in academies in Azerbaijan since ancient times. The second direction is linked to the establishment of ANAS in Azerbaijan in the mid-20th century and is associated with institutionalising scientific research under new conditions.The synthesis of these two aspects is analysed in the context of the role of ANAS's historical memory space in ensuring the integrity of society in the modern stage (in the digital cultural environment) and is subjected to philosophical analysis. To achieve the scientific goal, interdisciplinary methodology is employed, emphasising dynamic integration, systematic analysis, and organisational prioritisation as methodological principles.     Potentials of Dialium Guineense Endocarp Ash as a Cement Replacement Material

    Agricultural wastes such as Dialium guineense Endocarp are often generated in volumes that surpass disposal efforts. This concerns communities because improperly handled agricultural waste can lead to environmental challenges. Research on the use of agro-industrial or natural waste as cementitious materials tends to focus on the ashes from orange peel, locust bean pod, palm oil fuel, rice husk and sugarcane bagasse as partial replacements for cement. However, investigations are limited, focusing on Dialium guineense Endocarp ash (DEA) as an alternative cementitious material to reduce CO2 emissions and agricultural waste. This study explores the potential of DEA as a partial cement replacement material. Partial replacement of Portland limestone cement with DEA 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 wt.% for physical properties while mortar strength was varied from 0 -5 wt.%. Dialium guineense Endocarp pods were collected in Bauchi state- Nigeria, washed, dried, and grinded, followed by determination of thermal stability of the endocarp via Thermogravimetric Analyzer/ Differential Thermal Analyser (TGA/DTA). The resultant ground endocarp was calcined at 600 oC in a furnace for 4 hours, characterised by its chemical composition and functional groups via X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and Fourier Transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, respectively. The mortar strengths of 72 cubes for 3 days, 7 days, 28 days and 60 days were produced and determined with a mixing ratio of 1:2:4 (water: cement: sand) according to ASTM standards. The XRF analysis of DEA revealed that the composition of silicon, aluminium and iron oxides was less than 50 wt.% (24.84 wt.%), which did not meet the minimum requirement by standard to be considered a pozzolan with a high CaO content of 25.58 wt.% and possessed significant K2O content of 36.03 wt.%, an increase in the standard consistency and retardation of both setting times of DEA cement blends was experienced when the cement replacement with DEA was increased. The consistencies and setting time of the DEA-cement blends were higher than control. This prolonged setting times and higher consistency could be linked with the unburnt carbon presence in DEA. As the curing age progressed, the mortar strength experienced increments despite clinker diminution, suggesting pozzolanic activity. Most DEA cement blends produced enhanced strength at 28 days for cement replacement up to 4%, which led to diminished strengths that produced strength slightly lower than control despite clinker diminution. The optimum percentage of cement to be replaced with DEA was determined at four wt.%. DEA possesses properties that are useful as a partial cement replacement material

    Nigeria's Agriculture and Technology Use: Current Structure and Challenges

    Nigeria's agricultural sector plays a crucial role in the economy. It employs not less than 70% of the labour force and contributes to improving food security. However, the agricultural sector faces a series of challenges, including poor and inefficient use of technology. This research reviewed the literature on Nigeria's agricultural sector and farmers' use of technology. It analysed the current behavioural responses of the farmers to technology applications and programmes that target technology adoption in Nigeria, thereby describing one of the successful agricultural programmes in Nigeria and the procedural steps followed in executing the programme. The findings show that Nigeria has a low investment in agricultural technology. Nigeria has rich agricultural potential yet to be fully explored or exploited, with 77% of the country's land mass being arable. Evidence shows that Nigeria's agricultural sector leans more toward smallholder farming, with not less than 70% of farmers falling under this category. Smallholders produce 80% of the local stable foods. Most Nigerian farmers lagged in using technologies, with not more than 1% of all the farming households owning tractors and more than 70% of the farmers depending on crude implements. Reports on irrigation use show that not more than 6% of the arable land is irrigated. Information technology has not significantly impacted Nigeria's agricultural sector because many farmers have not used modern information communication technology (ICT) in their agricultural activities. Nigeria's agriculture growth is below the level required to reduce poverty and food insecurity. For instance, the released 2024 food security statistics reveal that 79% of Nigerians live in one form of food insecurity crisis or the other, of which 20% are plunged into severe food insecurity and 59% wallow in moderate food insecurity. Nigeria's agricultural sector value-added per capita rose less than 1% annually for over a decade (not less than 20 years). However, the trend in technology adoption is changing in Nigeria, with many farmers expressing willingness to pay for technology adoption. There is more market for hiring technology services. This research recommends that the government should critically evaluate its policies before implementation, as these could positively or negatively hamper the growth of the agricultural sector. Entrepreneurial market-driven hired technology services that would promote the efficient use of technology should be encouraged
