A Review of Transient Elastography as a Screening Tool in Pediatric Hepatic Diseases
Fatty liver disease is now increasingly being identified in children and adolescents. It has even gained a new call, Metabolic Dysfunction – Associated Steatotic Liver Disease. It entails the entire spectrum, from simple accumulation of fat deposits inside the liver to causing inflammation and liver damage ensuing in cirrhosis. Currently, the gold standard for diagnosis is Liver Biopsy, which is an invasive technique. Suppose Ultrasonography with Transient Elastography is included at the screening stage, along with the routine tests. In that case, the chances of missing Metabolic Dysfunction – Associated Steatotic Liver Disease will be reduced, and corrective interventions can be taken early. There are numerous studies on Transient Elastography in children with Hepatic Diseases. It is practised worldwide but has yet to become popular in India. In most cases, it is USG Abdomen, stating that the liver is enlarged and has some features. The routine practice of Transient Elastography is performed by a few radiologists and a few centres. However, if Transient Elastography can be added as a feature, many chronic cases can be identified early. Furthermore, it can be used as a routine screening tool in our adolescent populations
Preserving Local Culture in the Era of Globalization: Balancing Modernity and Cultural Identity
The advancement of globalisation has brought about unprecedented levels of convenience, facilitating swift and efficient completion of tasks. Accompanying technological progress has ushered in an era inundated with information. Consequently, societies worldwide have become interconnected in a global framework. However, this global unity has precipitated a clash between the forces of modernisation and entrenched local cultures, compelling individuals to navigate between embracing modernity and preserving traditional cultural identities. Human nature's perpetual pursuit of perfection perpetuates a propensity for change. Ultimately, the allure of convenience offered by globalisation has overshadowed local cultures, resulting in their marginalisation. Hence, this paper explores avenues for the coexistence of local cultures and modernity, preserving the essence of cultural identity. Employing qualitative methodology, including a literature review and in-depth content analysis, this research seeks to elucidate strategies for the endurance of local cultures amidst globalisation and modernisation
Effect of Endophytic Serratia marcescens Isolated from Bryophyllum pinnatum against Clinical Bacterial Isolates
The world's health is being threatened by antimicrobial resistance (AMR). According to the World Health Organization, it is one of the top ten worldwide public health problems facing humanity. Serratia marcescens is an opportunistic pathogen that can be isolated from soil, plants, water, and air. Additionally, Serratia species offer a valuable supply of secondary metabolites that are comparatively underutilised and may have anti-MDR pathogenic properties. The present research aimed to determine the antibacterial potential of Serratia marcescens isolated from the leaves of Bryophyllum pinnatum against clinical bacterial isolates. The leaves of Bryophyllum pinnatum were collected, surface sterilised, cultured at 37 °C for 24 hours and identified utilising viteks 2 automated techniques and molecular methods. The crude metabolites extract of Serratia marcescens were extracted and utilised for antibacterial susceptibility testing using agar healthy diffusion methods. The data were measured in the diameter zone of inhibition. This study revealed six endophytic bacteria were isolated from Bryophyllum pinnatum following standard microbiological culture methods. The endophytic bacteria isolate tag L03 was found to be Gram-Negative Rod. The isolate was tentatively identified as Serratia ficaria and molecularly identified as Serratia marcescens. The metabolites of Serratia marcescens endophytes revealed a significant antibacterial activity on Klebsiella pneumoniae with a diameter zone of inhibition of 17.7 mm at 100% concentration, followed by Staphylococcus sciuri with a 12.7 mm diameter zone of inhibition. These results suggested that endophytic bacteria Serratia marcescens were isolated from the leaves of Bryophyllum pinnatum and had shown potent antibacterial activity that could be employed to create new antibacterial agents
