Digital Archive from a Magnetometer Survey at North Oxford Golf Course, Gosford and Water Eaton, Oxfordshire, September 2023

    No full text
This collection comprises geophysics data, vector, GIS files from a magnetometer survey carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd. at North Oxford Golf Course (PR6b), Gosford and Water Eaton, Oxfordshire in September 2023. Archaeological Surveys Ltd was commissioned by Cotswold Archaeology to undertake a magnetometer survey as part of an investigation into the archaeological potential of the site as this would help inform the location of further intrusive investigation, such as trial trench evaluation, should it be required. The results indicate the presence of a series of linear ditches, enclosures and pits that form a linear settlement likely to be Romano-British in date. A low earthwork in the site relates to the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, and while only part of its north western section could be surveyed, due to the presence of trees over the majority of the mound, it is not possible to determine if there are any anomalies directly associated with the barrow. The site contains anomalies relating to ridge and furrow, land drainage, 19th century agricultural activity as well as numerous anomalies relating to the use of the site as a golf course since its foundation in 1907

Data from a Magnetometry Survey at Lanham Lane, Winchester, Hampshire, August 2024

    No full text
This collection comprises geophysics data, text documents, vector graphics, and GIS files from a magnetometry survey carried out by SUMO Geophysics on land at Lanham Lane, Winchester, Hampshire, in August 2024. The magnetometer survey has recorded numerous magnetic responses that have been interpreted as being of archaeological interest. An oval enclosure, two partial rectilinear enclosures, ring-ditches, ditches and pit-like responses have been detected in the survey. Some of the anomalies correspond with cropmarks which are noted in the HER. A number of uncertain responses have also been plotted and although archaeological origins cannot be entirely discounted, they could be due to natural or agricultural processes. A field boundary, modern ploughing and a service pipe have also been plotted in the survey.</p
