The works were carried out by South West Heritage Trust between November and December 2020 as part the repair of the eastern wall of Taunton Castle and to restore the gardens. Three small trenches were excavated and recorded to assess the age and condition of the walls. The work disturbed very little significant archaeology, and in consequence have added little to knowledge of the castle

Works were conducted by Albion Archaeology between November and December 2018, prior to the change of use of land from agricultural land to a cemetery. The earliest features ranged in date from the late Iron Age-early Romano-British period to the medieval period (12th-14th century) and mostly comprised field boundaries. Later features comprised post-medieval to modern quarry pits and field boundaries. A number of features and deposits were undated
