The mitigation exposed and recorded three burnt mounds with associated features, scattered pits, some of which are thought to be of Late Iron Age-Romano‐British date, field boundaries and possible drainage features

No full textThis collection comprises images from a historic building assesment at 1 New Street and the former synagogue in Penzance, Cornwall. This worked was undertaken by South West Archaeology Ltd in December 2018. The building assessment noted that multiple phases of alteration and changes of use have stripped the buildings of their identities and much of their historic fabric. The floor levels have been significantly raised in places, doorways blocked or forced, with most of the windows altered or replaced and the roof levels raised. The proposals are expected to make little changes to the exterior of the building other than repairing and restoring existing features or replacing where not salvageable. The loss of fittings and historic features on the interior has already been so extensive as to make discernment of the functions of the buildings difficult. On balance, the negative effect of the proposals must be set against the benefit of returning a structure currently in a declining condition to good use. In those terms, the impact of the proposals is adjudged to be neutral overall

No full textThis collection consists of images and text from a building survey by Oxford Archaeology (South) at the Royal Oak Wall, Keble College, Oxford, in February 2018.The wall is a rubble stone wall located to the north, east and south of the public house. The wall is clearly depicted on the 1769 field map of St Giles indicating it is at least 18th century in origin, though later mapping suggests that some of it has been rebuilt

No full textThis collection comprises images and a photographic catalogue from the level 1 historic building recording survey at the Airey houses associated with five specific housing estates in Sheffield (Wharncliffe Side, Grenoside, Hackenthorpe, Beighton, and Halfway). This work was undertaken by Ecus Ltd in December 2023. Whilst the Airey houses have no statutory listing, they are non-designated heritage assets. They represent a specific type of housing built after the Second World War, when demand for new houses was high, but the skills and materials required were in short supply. Both types of Airey house (Type 1 and Type 2) were seen at four of the estates. Careful thought went into the layout of these estates and the positioning of the different types of houses to make the best use of the plots available

No full textThis collection comprises the site records, pottery data, and photographic archive from an archaeological trial trench evaluation at Oatleys Farm, Buckinghamshire, in February-March 2021. The trial trench investigation identified the remains of a pit alignment of probable late prehistoric date. Whilst no clear evidence of associated Bronze Age or Iron Age settlement was revealed, with only a few nearby postholes of potentially prehistoric date suggestive of possible related activity, the pit alignment provides evidence of an important land boundary that was perhaps associated with nearby settlement. A deposit roughly corresponding with a faint earthwork detected by the remote sensing survey in the east of the Site (Area C25109) probably comprised the remains of a headland formed through medieval/post-medieval ridge-and-furrow cultivation. The documentary and finds archives will be deposited with Discover Bucks Museum
